Summary: She's done it again!
Review: Margaret George has a great style and is so successful at melding historical fact & fiction to give you a fabulous and interesting view of historical life. I recommend this book as well as her two others, although I rank this one as the best, Cleopatra second best, and Mary Queen of Scots last. But they're all so so good!

Summary: my review
Review: This is the third book I have read from Margaret George. I am still very much impressed by the way her narrator, and main character make the book seem so real and so easy to read. I have studied and read a lot about the life of Henry VIII, but this is the first time I can feel as if I know him. To add the notes from his fool, only makes the story more real and believable. Being a great lover of historical novels, I can only say: Great Work and please keep it up!

Summary: George Outdid herself with this one. Henry rules!
Review: This novel/history lesson just couldn't be better. I always get into Ms George's works and wish they had MORE pages. I've read every one she does about Royalty and learned something more than I did beforehand. This far surpasses her latetst "Cleopatra". I hope she is gearing up for the next one. Henry and the wives were just a great lesson in history, romance and brutality. 5 stars!

Summary: Margaret George -Please write more books like this!
Review: I've read the 'Autobiography of Henry VIII as told by his Fool, Will Sumors' from cover to cover in no time. It is a wonderful book and hard to put down. I wish she would turn out more of the same quicker! It is historically correct yet made to read like a novel. I've read every book she's written and hope that others who enjoy this genre continue doing so. History that is understandable-that's a great concept!

Summary: Henry - What a Guy!
Review: Ms. George's novelization of King Henry and 16th century England does a wonderful job of showing us what court life was like five cenruies ago. The author penetrates Henry's mind as well as anyone could at a remove of 500 years. As a history buff, my only complaint is that the focus on Henry's personal daily life and his marriages gives short shrift to the political machinations and religious debates which suffused this era. More attention to these subjects would have provided an even richer context within which to understand and enjoy Henry's view; although it would have made an already huge bood even thicker. That would be OK with me. I'd gladly spend the time with the work of such a masterful author.

Summary: Sorry to have read it so fast...
Review: I loved this book! I have been a fan of king Henry VIII since the 6th grade when I had to write a report on him. I have always had sympathy for him ( although people think I'm crazy for this ) and it was nice to read a book from his view point. Before I knew it, I was finished with the book and very sorry to have read it so fast.

Summary: Intrigue, romance, and history in one readable tome
Review: Ms. George did a lot of research to come up with Henry's side of things, and does a marvelous job. The format is a memoir written by Henry late in his life. Notes by Henry's jester (added after Henry's death) are interspersed throughout and do nicely to balance Henry's viewpoint. Although much of Henry's story is not happy, some of it is, and all of it is fascinating.

The book is easy to read, written mid-way between a modern and a 16th century style. The only problem I had with it was the prologue, ten pages of Will Somers explaining the memoirs. Read it but don't think the whole book is as slow.

It was insightful to see Henry portrayed as a man, not a monster, and to be reminded of all the good he did for England.

Intrigue, romance, and history all in one very readable tome!

Summary: Still blown away after my second read!
Review: This book was the catalyst to my reading Margaret George's other novels, but none surpass her first, "The Autobiography of Henry VIII". This novel carried me back in time and opened him up for me as though I knew him intimately. Always a fan of History, I was not disappointed by any lack of accuracy on the author's part, nor was any color or life lost in the accurate portrayals, as is sometimes the case in historical fiction. Especially of interest are the portrayals of all six of Henry's wives...not at all the flat, biographical sketches we are accustomed to in biographies of this King, and his relationships with both Wolsey and Thomas Moore. Even after my second read, I am still lost in this book!

Summary: Engrossing
Review: I ripped through this book in just a few days. It was very hard for me to put down! George made Henry seem like a real person and not a two dimensional character.

Summary: Wow!
Review: This is an extremely fascinating book. It is easy-reading and interesting, while at the same time keeping true to history. It gives one a perspective on Henry VIII's life not often found in history textbooks and refutes many of the myths surrounding this king of England.
