Summary: A pale imitation of the Pitt novels.
Review: It seems to be an attempt to cash in on the Cussler name. It obviously was not written by Cussler. It lacks the verve, vocabulary and wit of the master. This is a disappointing effort - much like the Tom Clancy Net Force novels.

Summary: Wow, great book
Review: This one by Cussler is very good. I'm a big fan of current 90's style adventure novels like 'The Triumph and the Glory' and 'The Devil's Teardrop', I appreciate their candour and gritty reality. 'Serpent' is every bit as effective in this regard. The storytelling is first-rate, the characters memorable, and the plot keeps the reader turning the page to the end.

Summary: andria doria portions excellent
Review: As a technical diving instructor the author did an excellent job putting the reader into the wreck...The use of 1 atm. suits was a great leap as most wrecks don't permit this .....Clive as always does an excellent job taking a ship and building a story around it....Looking forward to the next collaboration with Paul Kemprecos as I am not familar with his work but hope the addition of Kurt Austin with Dirk Pitt will forge great expeditions......

Summary: A Politically Correct Collection Of Dirk Pitt Clones.
Review: I must admit, I am a great Dirk Pitt fan, this may mean that I did not judge this book on its merits.Upon saying this OH DEAR!!!.Has P.C became so bad that The Master Of Adventure has to have a P.C team instead of The Mighty Duo of Dirk and Al.The adventures of the bold Gamy trying to climb out of the underground inca city, was very INCA GOLD,but no Dirk or Al.Finally, does Mr Austin have a wife called Goldie and a bionic eye,leg and arm.

Summary: Not one of Cussler's best. Dont waste your money on this one
Review: I have been a Clive Cussler fan for a long time. His books are full of continuous action and contain interesting historical information. Regretably, "Serpent" falls far short of his previous efforts. Serpent's characters are never fully developed and remain, at the best, one dimensional The story is draggy and never really reaches a final conclusion. Do not waste your money on this one. You will be disappointed as I was

Summary: Can't Wait for Atlantis Discovered
Review: I was fearing that the books that I enjoy the most for relaxation were over, but thank goodness I see that Cussler is bringing back Dirk in Atlantis Discovered. I can't wait until 12/6 !

Summary: Very disappointed in the effort given to this book.
Review: As a big fan of all the Dirk Pitt adventures I found this one to be lacking in substance. Austin seems to be a clone of Dirk in which case they should have just made it another Pitt adventure. I found the character Gamay to be interesting and with alot of possibilities for future stories.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Boring - no depth, like a shadow of earlier novels
Review: I have read every one of Clive Cussler's novels. This one is very disappointing.

This book made me feel like Clive put very little effort into writing it. Kurt and Joe are replicas of Dirk and Al. Joe even steals Admiral Sandecker's cigars just like Al did. This book lacked character development, the plot was an old one, and I couldn't get interested in it. This book reminded me of a Reader's Digest condensed book - I kept wondering what was missing. Earlier books really held my interest - Inca Gold was my favorite.

If Clive wants to introduce new characters, he should use Gamay as a new main character - she was a lot more interesting the either Kurt or Joe.

Summary: New super-hero = old superhero.
Review: We have a new super hero here. He walks, talks, acts, etc....just like his predecessor, Dirk. They must have been twins in some previous life. Cussler seems to have run out of interesting material. Better that he would introduce a new main character in the form of a woman than a rehash of his first one, Mr. Pitt. All this at the newer, higher paperback price. No thanks.

Summary: Huge Clive Cussler/Dirk Pitt fan somewhat disappointed
Review: I have thouroughly enjoyed every one of the Pitt novels and have even read most of them twice, but I can't help in being disappointed in Serpent. I can't figure out why Cussler would introduce a character so much like Pitt. I can only think that he did not write much of this book, which also disappoints me cuz' now I have to wonder if he's only in this for the money. Serpent is a decent book but quite frankly doesn't keep you at the edge of your seat and is very predictable. I have had 50 pages left to read for about a month now and am beginning to wonder if I'll ever get around to finishing. As I said, not much of an edge of your seat"er". I however can't wait until Dec 6, 1999 for the next Pitt adventure.
