Summary: A bore
Review: Well, I saw the good reviews for this book so I went ahead and bought it. What a mistake. I really forced myself through the first 75 pages. It was boring, the main character was weak (in fact ALL the characters were weak), and I'm sick of reading about weddings. I continued on with the next 50 pages or so, which were really really dull. The scenes about her work place are especially dragging. The whole book was typical, nothing original. You've got a heartbroken girl with a bad job, the asortment of nice guys she doesn't see, the quirky bestfriend/relative, blah, blah, blah. Nothing about this book made me want to keep reading, so I didn't. I flipped through the rest of the book, read the end, and was glad I didn't bother with the whole thing. If you're like me, and like a funny story with endearing characters you can relate to, skip this one because ...

Summary: Much better than Tiffany
Review: I read Minty first(before her other book "The Trials of Tiffany Trott"), glad that I did or I probably wouldn't have read it. Was fun and exciting, highly recommend!

Summary: A light and easy read .
Review: I like this book , interesting characters overall. I like the part where minty suddenly understood herself better. Great book!

Summary: Escapist commedy
Review: OK, I will go with "well worth reading".

Characters believable, has some plot, some laughs and some good twists.

I liked the way the chapters were named after the months, gave some context to time passing.

Minty, jilted at alter by an absolute swine of a fiancee gets her head out of the sand and ultimatley grows as a result. Lots of fun on the way. She works at a radio station, where there are some pretty funny characters and good story line.

All in all, it was a very good escape.

Summary: Fun Book
Review: This author will not let you down. Both of her books are great and I look forward to her next book. Very fun book and interesting to see who someone handles being jilted at the altar.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: After recently reading a slew of British thirty-something British novels, I was disappointed once I reached page 10 of this book. The story itself is good, & there are some great & really funny moments... but it's all mixed up with wordiness & blah-blah-blah. It's written by the author like a B film (e.g. incidents are referred to repeatedly for the reader; the character repeats herself outloud (to herself!). It was annoying in the way that you'd hear a certain friend's problems over & over again, & you finally (although in a fantasy) want to just slap her out of it. I didn't dislike the book enough not to finish it, but it was a loooooong read that could've been cut in half - literally - if it didn't have all that extra soap-opera, low-IQ repetition.

Summary: Much better than Tiffany
Review: Words cannot say how much better than 'Tiffany' this book really is! I almost don't believe it's the same author. This book was written with much more feeling and insight. I thouroughly enjoyed this book!

Summary: a page turner
Review: I liked the quirky characters of this novel. The style of writing was also good in that a chapter would end with one phrase which would be used to start the next chapter, but in a totally different context. I also like the fact that Minty had to resolve some of her emotional issues instead of just falling into the arms of Mr. Right.
However, I found the ending was a little bit too predictable in the Hollywood romantic comedy blockbuster kind of way.

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: I bought this book with such high hopes after reading the reviews posted on-line. My allusions were quickly shattered a few pages into the book. The main character is annoynig from the very outset. She lets her fiancee treat her like dirt and then is shocked when he leaves her at the altar. As the book progresses Minty fell lower and lower in my eyes she is such a whiner with no personslity. The only upside to this book is her cuz Amber the only character in this book worth reading. A complete waste of paper.

Summary: A new twist on a familiar premise
Review: I've been reading a lot of books like this lately. Girl meets boy, girl loves boy, boy leaves, girl needs to find a new life without boy. I guess I'm in a very Lifetime-television mode. But Making Minty Malone manages to be different.

Minty loves Dominic, so much that she mananges to convince herself she wants to marry him, even when his list of faults grossly outweighs his positive aspects.

We meet Minty on her wedding day, a day that Dominic planned, but her parents paid for (to the tune of $28,000). But the wedding never takes place, as Dominic says "No" instead of "I do" and leaves Minty to pick up the pieces.

The novel follows the next year of Minty's life, as she works to establish a backbone, expand her career, and perhaps be able to love someone who likes her for her. Unlike other books I've read, this one has closure -- there are no loose ends to tie up and even when Minty discovers she's over Dominic, another character is there to point out (rightly so) that she was to blame for his leaving, too.

Surrounded by a great cast of characters -- pain-in-the-[rear] yet lovable cousin Amber, who is Minty's opposite in every way; new friend (and maybe more?) Joe; a believable cast of quirky co-workers -- Making Minty Malone is a good read.

I warn you, it will take a bit to get into this book. I actually quit halfway through to read another book, but was able to pick up a few days later exactly where I left off. And, the second time around, it was a much faster read.
