Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: I picked up this book hoping to have a book that would make me laugh and I could read quickly. I almost wasn't able to finish it. The first 40 pages were poorly written and the main character, Minty, felt completely fake. I wasn't buying the 'too nice' business the author felt she had to reiterate every other page. The characters were semi-interesting but not altogether believable. Minty was annoying. The plot was annoying. Almost everything about this book was horrible. I kept reading after the first 40 pages hoping that the author just didn't know how to write as an insecure woman, and it did get better! But not good enough.
Rating: Summary: Fluffy fluffy fluffy Review: Making Minty Malone is very light reading, competantly written overall. If it's a break from more serious stuff you desire, then this will fit the bill. The plot moves along nicely, the main characters are engaging and some of the minor characters are a hoot. Everybody gets what they deserve in the end, good or bad. Basically, I won't be buying the hardback edition for my library but I'm not sorry I took the time to read it either.
Rating: Summary: Must Read Review: Making Minty Malone is an awesome book filled with suprises, twists, turns, and love - not to mention humerous. This book was so great, I could not put it down! Seriously, I read it during every class (carefully, so I wouldn't get caught!). Before, reading was a chore, but after this book, it is something I look forward to. So run to your local bookstore and pick up Making Minty Malone!
Rating: Summary: Minty is great! The book is really worth reading! Review: I won't write long exclamations. I just want to tell that i liked this book the same as i liked all the books about Bridget Jones. I loved it from the very first page. The story is written in an easy-read style and, i must confess, i suffered together with Minty and her funny cousin Amber sometimes. :) And now, after i finished reading it, i'm happy that after her boyfriend left her right at the church on their wedding she found her way out, started a great career and found a nice man. And i liked all those Nice Factor things (it's when you can't say "No" and you're "Too nice"). I advised this book to my friends which also adore B.Jones and their opinion is the same - this book is worth reading!
Rating: Summary: From spaghetti to steal. Review: Minty hates confrontation and knows how to compromise all too well, she's a bit of a pushover. When she is jilted by her fiancé at the altar in front of 280 people she is mortified and blames herself. The book goes on to follow Minty through the aftermath of this catastrophe. The woman that rises from the dust of the fall is stronger, wiser, and happier. Her antics will have you smiling from start to finish. Wolff writes with humor and panache. It is her writing style that brings me back to her books. THE TRIALS OF TIFFANY TROTT, her first book was equally as entertaining. I would give this book 4.5 stars...
Rating: Summary: Entertainment fo the broken-hearted -- and anyone else Review: This book is a comedic yet poignant delight from the first page to the last. I cringed as Dominic (the fiance) jilted Our Heroine, cheered her on as she got a makeover, both beauty/fashion-related and personality related (she takes a class in order to grow a spine), almost cried over the sickly kitten everyone thought would die but instead got well, and cheered when Minty at last found love with Joe ... This book is EXCELLENT and am waiting for a sequel
Rating: Summary: not as funny, but still entertaining Review: Wolff starts this one out rather slowly. Minty's narrating for the first pages almost drones on to the point that I was ready to not finish it. Yet I was still interested and so I kept reading. Beyond the beginning was a wonderful story, a bit different from the typical chick-brit lit, in that it was not hysterical, laugh-out-loud funny (which I don't mind). It had its own type of humor which I definitely enjoyed. I would recommend this book to any lover of brit-lit-any anyone else for that matter. Just continue through the first couple of pages and you're hooked.
Rating: Summary: Good Light Read Review: Yep, another one of those Brit chick comedies that popped up so suddenly after Bridget Jones went mad. This book stars Minty Malone, an all-too-nice radio journalist who gets jilted in front of 280 people and must deal with the fact that she let her ex-fiance walk all over her. With laugh-out-loud moments and serious romanticism that all works out in the end (of course) this rather mindless read is a lot of fun.
Rating: Summary: The perfect vacation paperback Review: Read other readers' comments for plot descriptions. Yes, there are a lot of British imports, but this is clever, ebullient and a terrific read. I laughed aloud, and bought her other book right away. I did prefer this one to THE TRIALS OF TIFFANY TROTT.
Rating: Summary: excellent tale of "woman loses man, finds self" Review: Getting dumped hurts, even when you aren't that sure you like the guy. This story opens on the morning of Araminta "Minty" Malone's wedding day as she gets dressed for church. She tells us how she met Dominic and lets us in on a few things she doesn't like about him but will obviously overlook. Then Dominic dumps her at the altar in front of all her friends and family and walks out of the church, leaving Minty humiliated. Not knowing what else to do, Minty and her best friend go to Paris on what would have been Minty's honeymoon (she's been to Paris 11 times, but Dominic is afraid to fly and they could take the train there.) There, she meets a writer named Joe, also from London, but she disregards him. Joe figures in a lot the next year of Minty's life. Each chapter of the book is one month. She goes through all the life-changes women often make to feel better after a relationship: drastic haircut, new job, takes a course, and finally confronts Dominic after learning he is engaged to another woman ... whom he also dumps. Before she can get over Dominic, Minty has to figure out what was lacking in her to be attracted to him in the first place. And can't we all, male or female, relate to that!
