Summary: Meadows's SIXTH FLEET is a Chilling Reality Check
Review: Though postulating well into the future, CAPT Meadows has, with a few key literary adjustments, effectively painted an accurate and disturbing picture of today's fleet. He develops a frighteningly realistic scenario, combining the effects of the politics of disengagement; lapses in leadership, good order and discipline; and technology undeployed or spread too thin with the unsettling specter of information warfare effectively applied by a fanatic enemy. It is a fascinating examination of today's Navy vainly trying to fight tomorrows's war against a small, highly motivated force using yesterday's weapons. CAPT Meadows also captures the pride, heroism, technical savvy, and sometimes quirky customs found in the fleet. Active duty sailors and Navy veterans of the Sixth Fleet will easily recognize themselves and their shipmates in this chilling tale of how quickly everything can go very, very wrong. "SEAWOLF," Meadows's next book, can't get here too soon.

Summary: What More Can I Say!
Review: Based on the other fine reviews of this book, at this juncture, my review would be redundant. All of the superlatives have been exhausted. It's true what they all say. If the term "streetwise" applies to military thrillers, then let the term apply to Capt. Meadows' Sixth Fleet. He writes with authority.

I very much enjoyed the raging battle scenes toward the end of the story. There is absolutely nothing good or grand about war, but I will note that Capt. Meadows did a masterful job at creating some very dramatic and very real battle scenes. The Americans and Italians are fighting the Libyans, both at sea and in the air.

I look forward to reading the entire Sixth Fleet series. The good news is that Capt. Meadows has recently contracted to do four more books. Well-done David. Cheers, shipmate.

Summary: 'A solid, entertaining story"
Review: This series definitely has potential. I'd really like to see more of the SEAL trio -- James, Beau & H.J. With James getting crapped on, Beau the wise-cracker and H.J. trying to prove herself as a lady SEAL, a lot of interesting things could happen. The plot to rid the Med of American influence was pretty good, especially since it's carried out by one sharp, evil Libyan colonel. A very good adversary for the U.S. to face. Some of the best scenes involved the Algerian revolution, especially with the loyalists trying to get the President out of the country while encountering all sorts of hairy situations. I really enjoyed the battle scenes at the end. Very fast-paced and well done. Looking forward to the rest of the Sixth Fleet books.

Summary: Sixth Fleet -- An incredible book series!!!
Review: Captain David Meadows has done an incredible job crafting this very believable and technically accurate story(ies). I suspect his characters' personalities are based on those of Marines and Sailors he has served with. In view of the events of September 11, 2001, Captain Meadows' plots are extraordinarily relevant. Moreover, he gives the reader a very believable look at the politics of war and the work behind our national military strategy. A very entertaining book series that is very hard to put down. Most important, Captain Meadows' work serves as a real tribute to the unsung heroes of our country, our servicemen who are deployed overseas!

Summary: Refreshing alternative to Clancy.
Review: Here's the difference between a military techno-thriller written by a career Naval officer and one written by a civilian who is a very good researcher. THE SIXTH FLEET rings true in terms of how Navy people actually talk, the things they do, and they way they think. In addition to this level of authenticity, Meadows has done a tremendous job of addressing the operational and technical aspects of what goes on in the U.S. Navy, allied forces, and potential adversaries' forces. He also makes informed, pointed cases about the possible consequences of current decisions being made regarding weapons systems, base closures, and cutbacks in resources. And to top it off, he weaves all these things together in a fascinating (and sometimes dismaying) prognostication about the future. But best of all, it's an exciting yarn, and Meadows has done a good job of rendering the perspectives and motivations of not only American characters but NATO and adversaries in more than just cursory, comic strip fashion. Looking forward to the next book, Igor!

Summary: The Tom Clancy of the 21st Century!!!!
Review: David Meadows is clearly the Tom Clancy of the new century. His knowledge of the Sixth Fleet and the countries of the Med is clearly evident on every page! Moreover, his characters are realistic three dimensional folks that draw you into the story. I am a Navy Reservist and I found these books impossible to put down. I highly recommend the Sixth Fleet series and his new Joint Task Force series to anyone who likes a great, action packed military story!

Summary: Absolutely Outstanding!
Review: Between active duty and contracting, I have an over 30-year association with the Navy, and this book is certainly Navy! The future events are historically logical, and the technology, tactics and culture are right on track. The characters are developed flawlessly, and the writing style puts you right in the center of the non-stop action. This book was a real page-turner; I don't think Captain Meadows is capable of writing a bad sentence! This is the finest Navy action genre book I have read, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: One of the worst books I have ever read
Review: I really disliked this book. The action was inferior, the plot was completely unbelievable, the characters were poorly crafted and the entire books is tedious and drags horribly. There are a few redeeming sequences, but this book was too far gone to save. I was horrified when I saw sequels to it at the book store. But obviously some people liked it. To each their own.

Summary: The Sixth Fleet Series
Review: I have read all 3 of the 6th Fleet books in order. Fortunately, I was able to buy #s 2&3 immediately after 1 because the story line demands that the reader get the next one ASAP to follow the plot line. That's the good news - the bad news is that #4 is not available and I have marines escaping the desert, an enemy sub near the fleet, An REMF general stomping around that should be keel-hauled and the Med threatened by the most radical new nation that can be imagined, Americans are held hostage in N Africa, top drawer SEALS are AWOL [manage-a-tois; no one is the new Demi Moore]AND Korea exploring. Aside form that there's no demand for the coming volumes. The characters are almost too well developed. But the series is starting to become a soap opera [As the Fleet Turns, The Blue and the Beautiful]. Great marketing ploy but a strain on the reader. {PS. Berkley needs a competent editor. Subs have Hulls not Hauls and MANY others plus some sentence structure gaffs.} All things said, I'll buy the future volumes, got to get the heros out and see the bad guy get their just desserts.
