Rating: Summary: The Sixth Fleet by David E. Meadows Review: As a veteran of 24 years in the United States Navy, having served in Fleet Air Reconnisanse Two (VQ-2), on the staff of Commander in Chief U.S. Naval Forces Europe, and in all of the locations described in this book and have been onboard all the ships also mentioned. I can without a doubt assure it's readers that all the information is technically accurate and realistic. I purchased this book and could not put it down, the only disappointment it has left me with, is that I finished reading it and now I have to wait for his next release in the series. Until then I shall re-read this one, it's one of those books that you won't mind reading more than once. Well Done Capt. Meadows. Your honesty and attention to detail made this book a pleasure to read. I am proud to have served which such men as yourself. Please keep on writing, Tom Clancy move over. Always,Yours in Naval Fellowship ...
Rating: Summary: Action Packed and Insightful Reading! Review: Dave Meadows brings a rare and accurate perspective on the new age of Information Warfare in "The Sixth Fleet". The story blends a combination of future-think issues with riveting action and gives a perspective of the military few authors achieve. Not only does he grab your attention and hold it through a number of sub-plots, but he also causes you to stop and think about "what if" situations that could very well affect the future Navy and our national security. He perfectly sets up the story's continuation in the next volume which I very much look forward to.
Rating: Summary: Set aside a couple hours before you start this book! Review: Once you enter the world of Meadows' Sixth Fleet- two decades in the future, you won't want to leave. Characters are wonderfully written and multi-dimensional. The gripping story is told from a range of perspectives- a wounded three star US Navy Admiral, a partriotic Greek fighter pilot, a jihad bent Libyan Colonel- with Meadows' skillful yarn spinning, the reader understands and sees the action from their respective points of view. Each character shares what he or she sees, what motivates them. Dave Meadows offers the best point of view writing I've ever read. With all that being said, it's also one heck of a good story- I highly recommend it! I very much look forward to follow-on books.
Rating: Summary: Superb Naval Thriller Review: This is an absolutely superb book! The only complaint I have is the story isn't finished and book two is not yet available. The author obvioulsy has a tremendous grasp of the Navy and its operations. The book is a page turner loaded with action and accurate to the subject. Can't wait for book two!
Rating: Summary: The Sixth Fleet Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I found it exciting, and gripping. It kept my interest, and reflected an accurate depiction of the Navy in the Mediterranean. It provided a blend of high-tech warfare and modern threats to our vital interests with a good mix of the security and political features of our presence in that part of the world. Obviously written by someone with a grasp of the U.S. Navy and the Sixth Fleet. Surpassed Clancy as far as Iam concerned. Bravo Zulu!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This novel is as up to date as today's headlines!!! Review: This novel is as up to date as todays headlines. The aircraft (EP3E) described in the book is the same one that is currently being held for ransom after being forced down in China. SIXTH FLEET sets you inside of America's most secret aircraft. The action is thrilling. The technical details are worth the read it self. This novel was recommended to me by a man that flew over 6,000 hours in this and similar aircraft in Viet Nam and later in the Med. He said "It don't get realer than this." Coming from him that is a grand endorcement.
Rating: Summary: Sixth Fleet Review: Look out Tom Clancy, David "Igor" Meadows is to techno-thrillers what Steven King is to super natural stories. This man has walked the walk and can talk the talk. Hope to see more of his books in the future and can't wait for the movie version.
Rating: Summary: Super! Review: I spent a good deal of my adult life in the military, and I'm a hard sell when it comes to realism in military books. Even guys like W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Clancy with their great books can't approach this author for realism. I'm amazed! Dave Meadows has done a superb job of blending this unmatched realism with a great yarn. The result is one of the best books I've read in a very long time. How long do we have to wait for another one?
Rating: Summary: What Style!!! Review: Sub-plots move quickly as the author winds us in an out of Navy life at sea in times of 21st century wartime. Chapters weave like Herman Wouk's "The Winds of War" and keep us waiting and looking for more finality, more insight, more excitement. Not the usual fiction for me, it was fairly easy to follow, barring the first chapter...mainly I stumbled thru that, mostly due to NOT following the jargon on military computer life. Lots of acronyms of Navy life, but they didn't slow me down. Just wish I would have had more time to sit and read it thru continuously instead of having to work and take care of kids! Can't wait to read the next one!!!!
