Summary: One of the silliest books I ever read
Review: This book is really an extended movie script. If it ever comes to the screen, it would make "Die Hard" or "Armageddon" look like Thomas the Tank Engine. Page after page of blood and gore does not hide a plot that is completely implausible. A secret organization that infiltrates military units! Giant seals! A super secret craft that works flawlessly after being locked up in ice! (We can be assured that they did not use a DieHard battery to start the engines.) An escape maneuver by an inexperienced pilot in a moving tunnel! And best of all -- jumping from one hovercraft to another while skimming over the ice at 70 miles per hour in freezing Antarctic wind! It's laughable. What a crock of bilge water. Don't waste your time or money.

Summary: Awesome book
Review: I can't tell you how much I loved this book, from the first chapter it pulls you in, I read this book in less than a week, and I'm a slow reader. I spent many hours late at night reading it. every chapter is exciting and scary, and it ends making you want to read the next chapter. The characters are introduced very nicely, and the fighting scenes are very descriptive, and very very long. which is pretty cool. when I finished it, and was sad that it was over cause. If you read this book, you won't be disapointed, it makes you wonder how the government runs. and you learn some things that may actually be useful in life. I'm jellous of you who are reading this book for the first time, I'm gonna read it again later after I read some other books. anyways, read this book, it rules.

Summary: What happened in the world while I was reading this book
Review: In all my years as a constant and avid reader NEVER have I read a book that delivered some much pulsating action and drama. You could search for years and never find a book as good as this book was. When I started this book I could not put it down at all. Even if there was a nuclear bomb I would still be reading this magnificent book.

A large book, sure, but absolutely no padding of words to fluff up the book. Every word was essential to the story. It could even have a semblence of truth as not many people have venture to the area that the book was set in.

If you only read one book in your life, THIS is the book for you to read. What a wonderful wonderful book.

Congratulations to this young author for he has set an enourmous standard to reach if he is to write another bokk as good as this book. It is hard to believe that he has barely commenced his early twenties.

Summary: Excellent Novel
Review: Matt Reilly's Ice Station is one of the best novels I've ever Read. I'm an avid Michael Crichton reader so I do have high expectations in a novel. This novel is fast-paced and action packed. The characters are extremely realistic. You never know what to expect. It kept me on the edge of my seat and up till all hours of the night. Scarecrow is as acurate of a Marine that Ive ever read about. The ending is unexpected. Overall this was a great novel and Im looking forward to Temple...coming out soon.

Summary: Fantastic action novel
Review: Half the reason why I decided to read this novel is because Matthew Reilly's mother is my maths teacher. I read his first novel Conest and I absolutely loved that. I read Temple and that was fantastic as well, so I decided to give Ice Station a go. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Matthew Reilly is a fantastic young writer who knows how to deliver breathtaking action with the use of a pen. Granted, some of the stuff he writes is implausible to say the least, but it is all but made up in his unique way to capture action on the page. I definitely reccomend this book to anybody who likes a great action novel.

Summary: Disgraceful
Review: Creative license is one thing. A writer of a "techno-thriller", however, has some reponsibility for accuracy. If you know nothing about the military, weapons, physics, biology and oceanography, and if you just don't care, read this book. If it won't bother you as the author "defines" basic concepts incorrectly, read this book. If, with your fiction, you expect a basic level of fact, look elswehere. If wide continuity gaps disturb you, look elsewhere. This book reads like a "B" movie where the hero shoots 26 times from a revolver, or the helicopter that lands is a Huey and the one that takes back off is a Jet Ranger. I don't know if the author simply doesn't know his subject or doesn't believe that it's important to get it right in a novel. If the publisher paid copy editors to fact check this book, it doesn't show. Willing suspension of disbelief is one thing, the willingness to accept glaring inaccuracy is another. Like him or not, Mr. Clancy has set the standard in this genre. Work at the level of Mr. Reilly's has not been acceptable in many years.

Summary: Reilly's Spoof
Review: I was on the floor laughing by the time I finished this comic book. Reilly has done an outstanding job of spoofing all the Die Hard, Ah-nold, 007, Indiana Jones movies all in one book. His hero Schofield survives bullets, knives, killer whales, falls off 300 foot cliffs, mutant seven ton seals and a nuclear blast. As a techno-thriller genre it deserves zero stars, but as a spoof it gets five. This will make a great movie. Stick to screen plays, Reilly--novels aren't your talent.

Summary: Ice Station
Review: You want a book with action, this is the book for you. You want suspence, this is the book for you. This is the best book I have ever read and I have a feeling it will be for a while to come.

Summary: Technically Incredible
Review: I could not finish this book. One of the major premises for a long and drawn out fire-fight in the Ice Station was that the release of CFC's from refrigerant tanks were so flammable and volatile that the combatants were not able to use their guns for fear of igniting this flammable mixture. Well, sorry to say that CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons) are not flammable and are often used as fire-extinguishers! In fact, if a fire had started in this Ice Station these CFC's would have put it out. Then I started thinking about those killer whales with all the explosions, falling debris, and noise going on, does one really think any animal would stick round? I could not swallow (pun intended)the biology and behavior of these animals. Then I began thinking that if the author had not bothered to get these facts right how could I believe anything in the book. I like the idea that certain commando groups through out the world carry their own "signature" weapons, but now I don't know if that is true or not. Perhaps the author has these facts wrong too. I gave up and wished I had not spent the money on the book.

Summary: exciting--but like a video game
Review: The first half of Ice Station was trully exciting; I really couldn't put this book down. However, my willing suspension of disbelief was snapped about midway through. No way could these men and women sustain such arduous and exhausting activities--colliding hovercrafts, killer whales, and mutant seal attacks to mention a few. So, the last half read like a fast-paced video game--as soon as one target was dispached, up popped another. Matt Reilly didn't need to put so much mahem and heroism into one novel to sustain a reader's credibility. I wanted to scream, "Get me out of this video game!"
