Summary: Quick Fun Read
Review: I bought this book on Friday so that I would have something to read on the subway the next week. This book was so good I killed it over the weekend. Its fun and while some parts are a little far-fetched it was fun to read. everytime one action sequence ends another one starts up. Get it...its worth it.

Summary: Slam Bang Fun, Suspend Your Disbelief
Review: Matthew Reilly's Ice Station is a full-on gas, as long as you are willing to enter it with the right attitude: namely, the same kind of willingness to sit back and enjoy the action that makes "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and old fashioned cliffhanger serials so much fun. You have to suspend disbelief, because many of the issues of realism, history, biology, and coincidence WILL otherwise undermine your enjoyment. Reilly has been compared to Crichton, but I think a better comparison are the scripts of George Lucas - both understand formula action, and while Reilly's style is still maturing, both also deliver the goods: two to three hours of full bore thrill ride. Crichton, on the other hand, is known for his intense research and science based style. This book "reads" very visually - clearly thoughts of screenplay were in the author's head. One thing that does set "Ice Station" above of the rest of the action pack, for me, was the lead character - Scarecrow. Reilly has created a unique, thinking-man lead that spares us most of the usual required macho B.S. that populates such novels. I think it promises well for future books, and look forward to reading more of the author's work. Bring it on! One final note: if you are a Marine, you're going to have some challenges here - it's the "Hollywood" USMC that is depicted, big-time, but take it in the spirit of admiration that is intended.

Summary: OUTSTANDING!!!!!
Review: Okay, this will be a bit weird, writing a review before I half finished the book in question, but I know that I cannot put this book down. Action, Action and HEY!! Did I mention - total action! Never a dull moment, great characters, super story line. Matt, why in heck did it take til late-2000 to get this fantastic read to Canada? Looking forward to "Temple" with great anticipation. Believe me, "Ice Station" deserves more than 5 stars - don't be too surprised if HOLLYWOOD goes all out on this one.

Summary: When's the next one coming out?
Review: Matthew Reilly's book is fast-paced and filled with complex characters. Nobody is who they seem to be. Just when you think you've worked it all out another red herring hits you in the face.

Summary: entertainment that is fast paced and escapist
Review: I enjoyed reading Ice Station. It took me out of the world I live in and into another one. That's the style of book I like: escapism with a capital E. Half the fun was trying to work out the devices that were real and the ones that were invented by Matt Reilly. There was only one problem. At night, I would finish a chapter but then I couldn't go to sleep because I had to read more. It was just non-stop action. Some parts are over the top but that's fine by me because I am a fan of James Bond movies. If you like Bond movies, you'll like Reilly's style. Enjoy the book: it is escapist, entertaining, informative and FUN!

Summary: more action than you can desire in a book
Review: I completely disagree with the above review. The fact that some of the action scenes were too far out to believe and some of the technical facts were off base is an indication that the above reader is reality based. This is not a bad thing in and of itself, but it would naturally take away from the enjoyment of this book. I am not as much of a reality based reader, and as such enjoyed the book tremendously. Who's to say that non-fiction can't create whatever it wants to. It's the readers job to let the author do the story telling. For me, the action was so nonstop and so intense, it left me exhausted. After i finished the first heavy action sequence, i went back and counted how many pages it took. 95 pages of intense, seat of the pants action. This is all before page 150. If you like action, get this book.

Summary: The Best Ever
Review: This book kept you reading and never let you expect anything. The thoughts are a little fantasy like but the story seems so real. in most books you can usually tell what is going to happen but in this the total oppisite occurs. I reccomed this to any body that loves secret agents, conspiracies, wide spread uneven fights, and hand to hand combat.

Summary: Ice Station
Review: If you want action, this is the one for you. The pace is very fast and never lets up. There are some inaccurate portions to it as far as injuries are concerned; but not a problem as far as an adrenaline rush. I just wish that more of his work was available in the US.

Summary: NON-STOP ACTION

The station sends out a rescue team of Marines to locate the divers, and find out what happened, but this will not be an easy mission for the resue team will have to do battle with killer whales, and a group of military assassins on a quest for the secret buried beneath the ice.
