Rating: Summary: Not up to Lehane par Review: I've read several of Dennis Lehane's books including Sacred, A Drink before the War and Gone, Baby, Gone. All were much better than his most recent effort, Prayers for Darkness. Best was Gone, Baby, Gone. I don't know if he was rushing to get out another book or what, but "Prayers" just wasn't up to Lehane standards. I know he can do better. Plot seemed too contrived & characters lacklustre. Try again Dennis.
Rating: Summary: WOW, Dennis Lehane has done it again! Review: I am a very big fan of Mr. Lehane's. He just keeps getting better. If you have never read one of his books get busy. You will not be disappointed. Just do not expect your ordinary thriller. He's better than that. I can hardly wait until the next installment.
Rating: Summary: Thank you, thank you, thank you Review: I was so glad to finally get my reserve copy of this from the library and find out that this author hasn't fallen into what has become a common plot device--having a long established relationship hit the skids--or the grave--to keep a longer running series running even longer. Despite their problems, Angie and Patrick are better together than apart and with the possible addition of a Bubba love interest [and isn't it great to see Bubba become a man instead of a cartoon?], I think Mr. Lehane can keep this one going for quite a while. This has become one of those series that will be read as much, or more, for the characters as the plot. As a prodigious mystery reader, I find that after a while the plots do tend to be forgotten, but great characters keep the reader coming back eager for more. Angie, Patrick, and Bubba are some of those characters!
Rating: Summary: Phenominal Review: Dennis Lehane is fantastic. "Sacred" was the first book I'd ever read by him and immediately did a search on Amazon.com for any other books. I've read everything I could find in print by Dennis Lehane but this is the best! I love the characters...hopefully the rumor isn't true that this will be his last book with Gennaro and Kenzie.
Rating: Summary: As always, Blown away Review: I am a recent fan of Dennis Lehane and his books make me laugh and scare me by the evil in the world. He writes with so much depth and I feel like I am in his world, tagging along with him and Angie and Bubba...While I dont believe this is his best work, I am glad to see more of Bubba and glad to have Angie back in the picture again..Cant wait for the sixth in the series....
Rating: Summary: Another great one from Dennis! Review: This is a very intense novel and it makes you shudder at the evil people can possess. Very good read, but I did miss Angie in the beginning. A must read for the beach, bedtime, bus, etc.... Okay Dennis, when is your next one?
Rating: Summary: Adventure meets intrigue and comedy Review: Few writers can make me laugh out loud with their sarcastic and smart aleck dialogue. Lehane is one of the chosen few. A terrific vacation book!
Rating: Summary: LeHane writes another very good mystery Review: LeHane writes a very enjoyable mystery with excellent character development, good plot needed more twists and turns. Excellent read I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Not his best, but still gets to you. . . Review: Mystery, like all other genres, is probably 90% garbage and 10% quality reading. Lehane is definitely a part of that 10%, and while I didn't think Prayers for Rain was his best work, it's still damn good writing. The plot gets you worked up, it's intriguing, and finally there's some depth to Bubba Rogowski's character. While I preferred A Drink Before the War and Darkness, Take My Hand over this one, I feel that those are tough books to beat. Lehane is still one of the most evocative and imaginative writers out there, and Prayers for Rain can be summed up with the same word I'd use for the other four novels: intense. I would have liked to see greater roles for Oscar Lee and Devin Amronmklin, seeing as some of Lehane's best assets are his supportiung casts. Not the best, not the second best, but I still stayed up until 3:00AM reading it.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down Review: This series gets better with every book. I was unable to put this book away until I weaved through all the plot twists which were spiced with wonderful dialogue. Do yourself a favor and grab this one up quickly. I can't wait until his next book.
