Rating: Summary: Another great mystery by Lehane Review: I just finished Prayers for Rain and recommend it highly. I have read all of the series and think Lehane is one of the best mystery writers available today. One word of caution (or interest depending on how you view it): In this book, I find the similarities between Patrick, Angie and Bubba, and Spencer, Susan and Hawk of the Robert Parker series even more striking--because of the relationship between Patrick and Angie and the role played by Bubba in this book. I've read every Spencer book (and enjoyed most) and I think that Parker's efforts show how difficult it is to keep a series vital and interesting. I find that Kenzie is very much a 90s version of Spencer, and I don't mean that as a criticism of Lehane, but I am concerned that it will be very difficult to maintain the originality of the characters and interest in the series.
Rating: Summary: This series just gets better and better! Review: All I can say is: OK, Dennis, I've spent the last few weeks reading all your books and what am I supposed to do now that I'm caught up? I guess now I'll have to do the laundry, cooking, cleaning--everything I was unable to do with your books glued to my hands. Seriously, I have never read a series like this...the twists and turns in each story are intriguing and the tension builds as the stories progress to the point where you just can't put them down...Dennis, I don't want you to compromise your skills and rush the next book--please take a vacation if you need to, and take some time to bask in the glow of your readers' praise--but please remember we're out here waiting!
Rating: Summary: This series keeps getting better Review: Why this guy isn't on every best-seller list is the real mystery. Great characters, engaging and interesting plots, sharp dialogue. What more could you ask for? For God's sake, read his books and tell other people about them!
Rating: Summary: Set aside time for Prayers for Rain..... Review: You will not want to put this book down till it is done. It amazes me that an author (Dennis Lehane) can take characters (Patrick, Angie Bubba) and make them interesting, fresh and exciting even after five books. You want to continue to read about these characters book after book and I think that is more difficult to accomplish than writing about different characters each time. The only problem is now having to wait a year for the next book from Lehane. Thank you for the great entertainment! Ree-views
Rating: Summary: This book places Dennis Lehane right up there with the best Review: I opened the book on Monday morning and didn't surface until I closed it that evening. Lucky for me it was a Holiday. Wow! Can he ever write! Patrick Kenzie, Angela Gennero and Bubba are exceptional characters. I like them better with each new book in the series. The plot line never let me down, with all its twists and turns, all leading to a stunning end. I just wish I hadn't devoured everything Mr.Lehane has written, since I now have to wait until his next installment is published.
Rating: Summary: Excellent jump-in point to this series. Review: If this is your first encounter with Lehane, jump in with both feet. I did, and discovered what a top-notch hardboiled mystery should feel like. Fortunately there is just enough reference to the characters' previous appearances to whet your appetite and not to discourage a late entry into this exciting series. Dive in head-first and you won't surface until all the books are read. That's my plan, so I'm off to it.
Rating: Summary: An engaging page turner. Review: Prepare to sit down and turn some pages. This latest Dennis Lehane mystery offers twists and turns along with its sweep of Boston's neighborhoods, cutting a wide path across the soci-economic landscape. Violent deaths and bloodshed characterize Lehane's work. Not for those with quesy stomachs.Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Intense, exciting, and surprising! Review: The characters in Lehane's latest offering are complex, deep, and not without many human faults. These very faults are what propels the plotline along at a fast clip. An intricate story woven with such realistic characters make this a fine read. This murder mystery held my attention all the way through to its surprising end, which came all too quickly. I stayed up till all hours and rushed home after work just to resume reading. If you enjoy this book, be sure to check out Dennis Lehane's previous novels, because they are as good as this genre gets!
Rating: Summary: it doesn't get any better than this Review: Prayers for Rain is all one could ask for in an literature genre. It encompasses it all. The scenarios and dialogue can't be beat. It's sustenance for the brain and the soul.
Rating: Summary: Love Dennis Lehane Review: I too am hooked on these characters. I love them. And I have to say that I loved this story. This might be one of my favorites; I discovered Lehane about three weeks ago and have only to read "Darkness, Take my Hand" which I am picking up tomorrow. Well worth the ride.
