Summary: I WANT A BUBBA DOLL!!
Review: Dennis Lehane is becoming my favorite author. He just keeps getting better and better. I hope he never peaks. His characters are alive and full of righteous spark. BUBBA is inspirational....he's my favoRITE.

Summary: TERRIFIC SERIES -- GREAT BOOK
Review: Couldn't put this one down -- it was almost as good as the first four in the series! Patrick Lehane has a dry wit and it comes through in the characters' reactions to things. His knowledge of Boston is wonderful and right on the money. I was a little disappointed in some of the cliched interaction between Bubba and Kenzie, but overall the book was wonderful. One of only two series I would read again -- the Prey series by Sandford is the other and he used to be my favorite author. Lehane now tops my list! Well worth buying in hardcover -- Lehane is a gem!

Summary: A great series; a great book
Review: The only thing I didn't like about this book is there isn't another one I can start reading. I picked up Gone, Baby, Gone about 2 weeks ago and was immediately hooked on Patrick, Angie and Bubba. Could not wait to read the first books. I wasn't disappointed. If this is the first book you've read in Mr. Lehane series I strongly recommend you read the rest.

Summary: Disappointing, especially at the end.
Review: I'm praying that Lehane doesn't become what Robert B. Parker has become, a novel machine. Prayers for Rain is like fast food compared to the rich meals of his previous books. The story is not very involving. Unlike his previous books, we don't get a strong sense of why Patrick wants to help defend this girl's honor or get back at the forces that made her this way. Although there are some strong scenes of revenge like in previous novels, the ending seems like a tacked on afterthought, a real let down after reading the rest of the book.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: Although I am a big fan of Lehane's work, Prayers for Rain fell short of my expectations. Angela and Kenzie's characters are usually more believable, but this time their one-liners seemed contrived and their rekindled relationship wasn't fully justified. After Angela's reaction in Gone Baby Gone, I think their reunion would have required more of a reason than a shrug of a shoulder. The only redeemer in this novel was a new perspective on Bubba.

Summary: Means Streets of Boston
Review: I've worked in bookstores for over 10 years now. I've read a few things. Recently I had a customer tell me I had to read Lehane. He came back a week later to see if I had. I said that before he came back that I would.I've read all 5. I want more. I'd hate to live in the Boston that he's created. I'd certainly get my Grandmother out of Brockton where she lives, but I can't wait for the next Lehane. I'm thanking that customer the next time he comes in.

Summary: Lehane's best - By far
Review: The two things that really impressed me about Prayers for Rain were the intricacy of the story line and the improvement of Lehane's prose. The plot had more twists and turns than an Irish back road but no dead ends (although Bubba's multi-faceted skill set does, more than once, make him a machina ex deus).

Lehane maintained the pace with a writing style that flows easily, markedly better than his earlier works, and they weren't noticably awkward.

I was so engrossed in Prayers for Rain that I missed a flight call in the Cleveland airport, of course I was going to Cincinnati.

Summary: Lehane keeps the edge
Review: This book tops all the rest. Absolutely unable to put it down. Mr. Lehane, please do not lose your edge. Every book has been a five star gripping novel with great characters and all one could ask for.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Lehane is GOOD!
Review: War novels like The Killer Angels and The Triumph and the Glory provide my usual reading fare, but I've heard a lot of good things about Dennis Lehane's writing so I read a couple of his novels. The best one was Prayers For Rain. It is chilling at times, always suspenseful, well stocked with great dialogue and skillfully plotted. I am as of this moment a Dennis Lehane fan.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: GREAT BOOK THE BEST ONE YET!
Review: Prayers for Rain was the best one yet and hopefully not the last. One of the things that made this book better than the rest was the bigger role of the arms smuggler and funny Bubby. When I start to read one of the Patrick and Angie novels, I can not wait for the apperence of the big man Bubby. This and the wisecracks of the duo make this novel one that is not to miss. Mr.Lehane keep up the good work and hope to see more of Bubby in the novels to come.
