Summary: An enjoyable, if somewhat uneven, read
Review: After reading "The Cat Who Robbed a Bank", as well as the reviews posted before this one, I was interested to note how many of Ms. Braun's fans had the same impression that I did, i.e. that the quality of writing in this latest outing for Qwill and Koko was less than what long-time readers have come to expect. However, given that Ms. Braun is writing about a journalist with a definite intolerance for poor grammar, limited vocabularies and inept proofreaders, I would have thought that more people would have picked up on the three obvious typographical errors I found in my cherished first printing. Ms. Braun, you may want to notify your publisher and ask for a better proofreader the next time out! Altogether, I would say that I will place "The Cat Who Robbed a Bank" in the appropriate location in my library to keep my set complete, but I will continue to hope for better the next time around.

Summary: It is a good mystery.
Review: This book catches us up with the good community of Pickax, where Qwilleran lives an an apple barn. The New PickaxHotel has been renovated and Amanda Goodwinter is running for mayor challenging the incumbent Gregory Blythe. We learn a lot about Qwill's family which helps us understand his life before the cats. Although the Cats play a reduced role, the book is just as good as any others in this better than average series.

Summary: This Cat Who is Disappointing
Review: In this book we do learn a little history on Qwill's life, but not enough to stimulate interest. Also, I find that very little action on the part of Koko and Yum Yum is disappointing. I have always looked forward to that interaction between man and animal fasinating. Nice book, but lasks pizzaze!

Summary: The Cat Who Changed a Little
Review: This book, although good, did not fully measure up to what I have come to expect from Ms. Braun. I agreed with some that she needs to bring back old characters who we have seen very little of in this latest Qwill update. The story seemed to lack her usual wit and conviction. However Ms. Braun did not deserve some of the unkind reviews given as it was an enjoyable book. Maybe it was different. Let us hope that with the next she will be back at her best.

Summary: Not what I was expecting. . .
Review: The Cat Who Robbed a Bank was not a bad book, it just wasn't a great book. I have to say it was an improvement on The Cat Who Saw Stars, the prevous book; where as that book had no mystery, this had one, as small and predictable as it was. After reading Braun's lastest books, I must agree with those who suspect that someone other than Braun is writing them. The books have always had a certain feel to them, a way everything fit together, but the past two or three have odd aftertaste, so to speak, to the the devoted reader. It just isn't Braun's style. The plot was weak and seemed almost forced. To those who are thinking about starting to read this series, do not start with this book! It isn't that first-timers wouldn't "get" it, The Cat Who Robbed a Bank explains everythig a little too much, but because this book doesn't do the series justice. I recommend starting at the begining, with The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, or some of the other good ones are The Cat Who Saw Red, The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts, The Cat Who Lived High, and The Cat Who Wasn't There. Even though this book was not what I expected, I am still a devoted fan who eagarly awaits the hopefully-better next book.

Summary: Ms. Braun Does It Again
Review: I'm fourteen years old, and considering the overwhelming amount of criticism Ms. Braun attributes to younger people, I have never enjoyed a series of books as much as hers. The Cat Who Robbed A Bank was a wonderful book, just as can't-put-it-down as her previous books. All I have to say is that nothing has changed in the captivating, marvelous way Ms. Braun writes, and I will always keep coming back for more.

Summary: Something mysterious is going on alright
Review: I have to agree with the review of Sue from Michigan who suggested the possibility of ghostwriting. I, too, have read the entire series. I was glad to see so many of the old characters and settings along with some new information about Qwill that I've long wondered about. Polly still knows her literary sources and Qwill is still frugal despite his millions, and yet something is wrong. All the pieces are there yet they don't quite make a whole puzzle. It is as though someone read the entire series and took notes. Why are there no recent photos or even author's notes on the jacket? The books have been very uneven in recent years--almost as though two people or more have taken turns writing them. I want someone to solve the mystery of the cat who series that seemed team written but only gave the best-selling author's name.

Summary: Sadly disappointing
Review: I'm sad to say that I was disappointed in this latest Cat Who book. The letters from Qwilleran's mother seemed to be just page fillers (very thick pages too!) because they did notlead anywhere and apparently will not ever do so since he burned the unread ones! There was no mystery; the character and history of the murderer was superficial at best. I, too, am starting to suspect the existence of a ghost writer. However, my somewhat negative reaction doesn't mean I won't continue to be a big fan of Ms. Braun's because anytime I read 16 books during a 3 month period -- as I did when I discovered the Cat Who books -- I have to remain loyal! Let's just hope this is a temporary problem and the next book will be written by the Ms. Braun we all love. No one can always be a star!

Summary: An Excellent Mystery
Review: This is one of the best Cat Who books yet. I couldn't put it down. It leaves the reader waiting for Lilian's next book. She really out done herself. Thanks Lilian

Summary: The audio version provides pleasant lightweight listening
Review: Some of the readers who reported on the book, <The Cat Who Robbed a Bank> expressed disappointment with it, especially when compared with the earlier novels in the series. I am unfamiliar with any of these books and my only exposure has been the Putnam Berkley Audio taped abridgment of the Braun mystery.

Although it is nicely read by George Guidall, I found it difficult to get enthusiastic over the offering as a whole. Small town character novels are always interesting, provided that the characters are interesting in themselves. Here I could not get involved with any of them, possibly because of my unfamiliarity with the earlier works. Of course the gimmick is the ESP of Koko and YumYum, the two cats that sense what has really happened and provide all the clues. Were this treated as pure fantasy, the gimmick would work. Here, despite all the disclaimers about how little we know about the thoughts of cats, credulity is strained past the limit of what a realistic novel should expect of the reader.

Very likely I would have liked it more if I read the complete novel; but this is a review of the recording.

Mind you, this tape will still provide some pleasant listening on a long drive--but do no expect too much.
