Summary: The Cat Who Robbed a Bank.
Review: I was sadly dissappointed, and I felt the end just dropped off. I have read and re-read all the previous "Cat Who..." books, and thoroughly enjoy them each time. I wait all year for Ms. Braun's latest and greatest continuing saga of life with Qwill, Koko, Yum Yum, and all "our" friends and neighbors 400 miles north of everywhere. I am still, and always will be a true fan of Lilian Jackson Braun, but I feel this is not Braun at her best.

Summary: A Big Disappointment
Review: I've read all of "The Cat Who..." books and found this one to be most disappointing. I couldn't believe the end. It's just like the final chapter was missing. You knew all along "who done it" and why. Where were the twists and turns? I think Lillian Jackson Braun has run out of gas in this series.

Summary: A fair entry in the Cat Who Series
Review: The Cat Who Robbed A Bank is the latest edition in Lilian Jackson Braun's Cat Who mysteries. The book takes place in (where else) Moose County and tells the tale of the Jeweler who came to town and ended up being murdered for his trouble. The book also throws, the Highland Games, the grand reopening of the Pickax Hotel renamed after Qwill's Mother and a Mark Twain Festival among other things, in for variety. The Cat Who Robbed A Bank is a nice addition to the series but it is rather superficial at times because the characters are not always explored in depth and the author seemed to flit from one thing to another rather abruptly at times. The last few chapters of the book are by far the best because they answer alot of questions about Qwill's parents and the role of Qwill's Aunt Fanny in his Mother's life. This is a good read, not the best of the series, but a good book to read on a lazy afternoon.

Summary: A very charming and delightful cozy
Review: Moose County lies 400 miles form everywhere. The county seat is Pickax, a thriving town with a population of around 3000, including the wealthy Jim Qwilleran and his Siamese cats, the mind reading Koko and the lovely Yum Yum.

>Qwill, a reporter, has a genuine interest in crime and has even solved several cases. Pickax has a lot happening now such as the reopening of the hotel, the Scottish Festival, and an eccentric jeweler coming to town. Qwill is not thinking of felonies until someone kills the jeweler. As the townsfolk are outraged, Qwill vows to uncover the truth even though he and his two feline partners have some strange incidents get between him and his goal.

THE CAT WHO ROBBED A BANK is the twenty-third entry in this popular series, but the story line retains the freshness and charms that is a trademark of the novels. The plot is delightful when focusing on the antics of a clairvoyant cat and his preening companion. Qwill remains an engaging individual who more than just marches to a different drum. He is the drummer. The mystery is enjoyable, but as usual Lilian Jackson Braun's tale belongs to two cats and their pet human.

Summary: for Moose County fans, 3-4 for anyone else
Review: The story opens in late summer, Jim Qwilleran, wealthy newspaper columnist is, like the rest of Moose County (located 400 miles north of everywhere) looking forward to the opening of the new hotel. He finds that in addition to the grand opening, the hotel is to be graced by a visit from Mr. Delacamp, a jeweler from the big city who travels to Moose County every few years to do business. Qwill is intrigued by this strange custom and resorts to undercover work to satisfy his curiousity about the expensive cash only, women customers only business. When a murder occurs he becomes more so. As always Koko, his Siamese cat helps Qwill to pick his way through the tangle of old and new county scandals and county ties to reach the answers.

For fans of this long running series there are plenty of Moose County updates and 'information to be shared' as well of glimpses of day to day small town life. 'Cozy' fans would probably enjoy this as well even if not familiar with the series but anyone looking for a more hard-boiled or challenging story should look elsewhere.

Summary: Could not possibly be written by Ms. Braun
Review: Most of my enjoyment of this delightful series has come from the literary skills of Lillian Jackson Braun. Her nuances of humor, her turn of a phrase, strong character development, and the life threads that run through the series cause me to always come back for more.

This book is clearly NOT written in the same style. It is inoffensive, very light, but tends to the cloying, tea-table mystery style. Not my favorite, and I hesitate to buy any more "stories" from this "series."

Summary: Good Old Koko
Review: I agree with some of the previous comments - there are really no surprises in Moose County, but knowing what you're going to read has a certain charm all its own. I still enjoy this series, and the characters are still pretty wonderful. Yes, this mystery was pretty straightforward, and you know who did it and why. I think I would have liked a little more exposure to the murderer's character - he seemed to be a shadowy figure at best in this one. But Koko still delights, and Polly and Qwill are still wonderful. For all cat fanciers, this series is a must!
