Rating: Summary: Best of the Series Review: I have all of the "Cat Who" books and this was my favorite....especially liked the insights into Quilleran's family history. Braun knows how to keep her readers happy and looking forward to Koko and Yum Yum's next sleuthing adventure.
Rating: Summary: CLASSIC BRAUN! Review: I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS STORY AND THOUGHT IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE LAST ONE WHICH WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. IT WAS GREAT TO BE UPDATED WITH THE GOINGS ON IN PICKAX CITY AND RENEW OUR AQUAINTANCE WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS. THE LETTERS FROM ANNIE TO FANNY WERE AN INTERESTING INSIGHT TO QWILL'S BACKGROUND TO HIM AND READERS ALIKE. AGREED THE MYSTERY WAS MORE TRAGIC THAN MYSTERIOUS BUT THE CATS (PRIMARILY KOKO) CAME UP WITH SOME INGENIOUS CLUES AND WERE ENDEARING AND AMUSING AS EVER. MY FRIENDS, FAMILY AND PETS SHOULD BE SO ENGAGING! A VERY DELIGHTFUL AND SATISFYING READ!
Rating: Summary: Another Good One Review: I liked the book and I don't know what other reviewers mean when they say that there isn't enough mystery solving by the cat. Come-on already, people commit murders and people solve them. The cats make the people interesting and help point the way, but it's the work of "Qwill" I am most interested in.
Rating: Summary: The author who robbed her fans Review: I'm an eternal L.J. Braun/Cat Who fan, but was very disappointed in this latest effort. The details behind the restoration of the the new Inn, Qwill's parental heritage, the Scottish games, the mechanical banks and auction were all fun, interesting and vintage Braun. However, considering that this book is categorized as a "murder mystery", the murder was boring, and there really wasn't much mystery! Already being a fan, I still enjoyed parts of the book, but if you're not yet a fan, don't start with this book!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but just not the same Review: I have been very interested in reading the reviews of this book. I agree that The Cat Who Robbed a Bank is not the equal of other books in The Cat Who...series. It lacked the depth and descriptive prose of the previous novels. The one sentence paragraphs became tedious at times. It is almost as if this book was written by someone else. Perhaps someone else was ghost writing this book for Ms. Jackson-Braun?
Rating: Summary: Not as entertaining as earlier Cat Who... books Review: I was disappointed in the latest Cat Who... book. It is too predictable, and it ends abruptly. The story just didn't hold my interest. If it were the first Cat Who... book that I had read, I doubt that I would have pursued the others. Is the author growing tired of the characters? Do they need a change of locale? Qwill, Koko, and YumYum could go to Paris, perhaps!
Rating: Summary: A long drive to nowhere Review: I have read and enjoyed almost every one of the cat who books and this was, by far, the least enjoyable. Reading this book was like going on a Sunday drive; passing nice scenery, and returning home. There was no excitement, no suspense, no amusement, just a pleasant excursion with little to show at the end.We gathered a glimpse into Qwill's past, but even that was cut short with no hope of ever hearing the end. The murdered suspect was just a cardboard cutout with some innuendos, but nothing substantial. The same with the murderers. There was absolutely no character development at all. Even the cats played a minor role. This book was like reading someone's journal of daily activities over a period of a week or so. Interesting, but certainly not worth the price of admission. Wait until this one comes out in paperback, or avoid it altogether.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Fall Journey Into the Cat Who World Review: As far as the series goes, this one moves to the top of my list of favorites. I think that the descriptive content of this book surpasses the ones in years past. The characters, while not as introspectively examined as in other books, are wonderfully orchestrated to make this into one of Mrs. Braun's more lively tales. I know in some of the other books, We are bogged down under lengthily character descriptions of characters that we have known for years (if you want more information on the characters, may I suggest the Cat Who Companion!)! I also Praise Mrs. Braun for her "calendar" layout of this novel. Perhaps the most introspective part of the book (with exception of the information about Qwill's family history) was how we became more aquatinted with his weekly schedule. Mrs. Braun's pattern of writing the books in a seasonal (spring, summer, fall, winter) format has become one of the best evolutions that the series has undergone. "Robbed" makes up for plot intrigue with the introduction of several new locals, locations, and just good friendship with previous friends. I did however miss the comedic quips of Celia. Overall, I found this to be a well-planned, well-rounded book. It gave us a break from the intensities of the Pickax murder scene, and took us into the depths of everyday life of Jim. As one of the younger (under 20) readers of this series, I found this to be a very enjoyable book. I look forward to her next book with baited breath.
Rating: Summary: Better than "Cat Who Saw Stars"...But Still Disappointing Review: While I was supremely disappointed with the "Cat Who Saw Stars", I found this one to be more enjoyable and less taxing on my credulence. Still, overall this book was less than satisfying. Lately, we've been seeing less and less of favorite characters; Junior Goodwinter, Roger MacGillavray, the Comptons, and the Bambas, while the author introduces new characters solely for the purpose of killing them, it seems. I look with nostalgia back to the earlier books, where there was more going on. Final review: a let down, but necessary for the "Cat Who.." fans.
Rating: Summary: Cat Who books are the best Review: I love the cat who books. It does seem that the author isn't putting as much depth into them as she used to. This book is good, but I really enjoyed when she let Koko do more in solving the mysteries. I wish she would go back to this in later books. Everyone should read this book.
