Rating: Summary: A great read Review: This is another one of Robin Cook's great thrillers. This was the first book I read by him (like so many others) and found I could not put it down. Things just kept on moving and kept getting deeper and deeper into the heart of the issue. If you don't read any of his other books at least make time to read this one.
Rating: Summary: Good, but predictable Review: This is the first Robin Cook's book that I've read. I really like the story, it's fast and suspence. It may be the book that I've ever finshed in less then 5n days. Unfortunetely, I found that the storyline a bit predictable. I just know what will happen next and the ending was also what I have predited. However, it's really a nice read. I do learn something from the story, well maybe the situation inside the story will never happen in the reality.
Rating: Summary: Great Medical Drama Review: This was a wonderful book to listen to. It kept you glued to your cassette player.I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers. If you are thinking of making this your first Robin Cook novel, GREAT CHOICE.
Rating: Summary: This book really grabs your attention! Review: This was my first book by Robin Cook, and I found it an addictively fast read. Robin Cook's use of medicinal jargon separates makes the reader believe the veracity of the outbreak. My only criticisms are that I believe the main character did not have a great reason as the book progressed, not to go the police; I also thought the resolution happened so quickly, that I was not quite sure what had happened to some of the characters in the climax......but maybe it is just me. Nonetheless, this is excellent beach reading, and might even revive your fears of the dark.
Rating: Summary: Scary Ebola overshadowed by silly characters Review: This was my first Robin Cook novel and I have to say I was very disappointed. The Ebola threat was scary enough, but was overshadowed by the silly characters and very predictable plot. I had figured out how the outbreaks would spread by the end of the prologue and I knew who the "bad guy" was long before Marissa did. Although it is not unusual to know more than your protagonist, it shouldn't be because the author telegraphed (as opposed to foreshadowed) everything and the protagonist is stupid. One character remarks, "She played me like a finely tuned instrument." I disagree. Cook may want us to think that Marissa is that clever, but his writing contradicts this. Also, Cook's simplistic politics rankled. Conservative=bad, liberal=good. Plenty of authors hold this view, but there is usually some sort of explanation as to why it should be accepted in the story. Here, there was no reason. And Marissa's character certainly didn't do anything to further the liberal cause. She's petty, manipulative, insecure, and incredibly shallow (her assessments of the men in her life amount to "he's nice but I wish he were more attractive"--is this supposed to be progress?). I could not sympathize with her at all. Her breaking the rules to do the right thing did not ring true. It always seemed to me her primary concern was her own career, not the welfare of others. If you want to read a book where the protagonist breaks the rules for the "right" reasons, read a Harry Bosch novel by Michael Connelly. If you want to read about a strong woman who leans more to the left than the right, read a Kay Scarpetta novel by Patricial Cornwell. If you want a tense story about a horrible virus let loose in the US, rent "Outbreak" the movie. Same title, different (and better) story.
Rating: Summary: This is the most suspensful book I have read Review: This was the coolest book I have read. This suspense isspine-tingling. Robin Cook should use the formula he did to writethis book and write another, maybe write an even more suspenseful and terrifying sequel.
Rating: Summary: OUTBREAK Review: Well, this was my first Robin Cook book, although, I read it quite a while ago. This was the book that got me into Cook's books. I've read about 8 of his books since then but this one's special because it was the first and the main character worked at CDC which is in Atlant and I'm fron Atlanta. I don't think this was one of his best but still it's very excellent. A lot of suspense and the thing I liked about this book was the fact that there were a lot of changes in setting. You'll probably enjoy it so read on.
