Rating: Summary: Interesting war facts about carrier and naval tactics Review: Interesting description of carrier and naval battle tactics but as a novel it moved somewhat slow and it was a bit too predictale. The first half was gripping but the second half was so so.
Rating: Summary: Gripping, but full of implausabilities and simple errors. Review: One reviewer has already pointed out the unbelievable failure too differentiate between Arabs and Iranians. The thought that a secret agent could make it in northern Iran because he spoke "a little Arabic" is ludicrous. He would stand out like a sore thumb. Arabic is about as much like Farsi as English is like Swedish. The only similarity is the alphabet. Oh, by the way, Verdi didn't compose an overture to Rigoletto. There is a very short introduction and the curtain rises.
Rating: Summary: HELLO HYPE Review: How and why does a book like this become so popular? Whoever designed the cover art deserves an award because it's best thing about the book. I'm wondering how many people (besides me) got suckered into buying this stinker BECAUSE of the art and a couple of well placed ads in book reviews. I waited and waited for the story to improve but after the carrier explodes, it's all downhill from there. Besides the factual errors, it had to have had the worst (and shortest) climatic battle scene ever printed. Had to check the page numbers to make sure some hadn't been ripped out.
Rating: Summary: good read pick it up Review: I think that this book is a very good read for those people who are into aircraft carriers and nuclear bombs and the possiblity that some thing like that could actually happen.
Rating: Summary: Simplistic, childish, flat would describe this book. Review: One of the worst book I have ever read. Simplistic, childish, flat, apply to the plot, the prose, and the characters. The characters are righteous, simplistic, bigots with very little to offer in the way of interest. The weak plot is further undermined by a very apparent lack of knowledge of what the author is writing about. As another reviewer pointed out, he makes it all seem so simple and obvious. The good guys never make a mistake (after the initial tragedy) and everything just seems to fall into their laps. I offer the following as examples:1 - The terrorist makes it extremely easy for the good guys by using his own name ON A FAKE PASSPORT ?!?!?! 2 - Only one man figures out that this was not an accident? How about all the nuclear experts in the civilian sector? Even my wife knows that a nuke does not "go off by itself". There are other examples too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say that this book is not worth the time or the money. Just by the way -- While Iran is predominantly Muslim, it is NOT an Arab state. It is a Persian state with a different language and a different historical background. The author could not get even something as simple as this correct.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully written, packed with facts, suspenseful, EXCELLE Review: This book grips the reader from the beginning. It was a real nice yarn, and I am sure that other people will enjoy it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: A good book that anyone would like to read. Review: Nimitz Class was a great book to read. If I could, I would rate this book at 4 1/2 stars. This book was not the best that I have read, but it is still a good read. I read other reviews to get a taste of what the book would be like. I say that most people are looking on the negative side of the book. There were numerous good things about the book. Despite the fact that the president called all his top admirals by their first names, the book was almost flawless. Some said that some scenes were corny. I only saw one scene that was unrealistic. The opening scene was this way in that Lieutenant Howell couldn't land on the carrier because of a "fouled deck", then his gear get stuck in the up position. Other than that, the events in the story were flawless. Others said that the it was impossible to penetrate a CVBG. Yes, a CVBG has 2 SSN's and other escorts like Guided Missile Cruisers and Frigates, but a Kilo on silent running with a commander as skilled as Ben Adnam could penetrate a CVBG. All the events in the book were realistic and all maneuvers performed were possible. Once again, Nimitz Class is a good book. If you're not sure if Nimitz Class is worth reading, check it out from the library or buy it. Nimitz Class is a book worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Plot leads to nothing. Review: The author is certainly an expert on U.S. and British naval policies and procedures, but the book ultimately fizzles. For a country (ultimately identified) and/or a world leader (ultimately identified) to use a nuclear weapon against the United States, and suffer no comparable retaliation, is just plain silly.
Rating: Summary: Kiff life Review: What a load of trash. I recommend this book to anyone who likes wasting money on stupid books when they could purchase brilliant books like The One Who Got Away.
