Rating: Summary: Sweaty Teddy: Family Man Review: Ted's book of "rantings" is a fun, fast read. The guy is "spot-on" regarding gun-rights and takes a common-sense position that is difficult to argue with. Here's a conservative guy who loves his family, God (gasp), guns (gasp!), and hunting (GASP!). There probably isn't a liberal alive that will like this book or will spend the time to really think about some of the things that Ted is talking about--pity.Ted spends a lot of time talking about hunting and nature, and his love of the two. Although, I'm not a hunter, it made me much more interested in the sport. He also discusses his family and how he has been so successful in creating a solid, close-knit unit. At times his writing is funny, sad, and touching. Anyone who reads this will have to decide that Ted--who describes himself as "just a guitar player"--is one of the "good guys".
Rating: Summary: 'The Way Things Ought to Be' for the gun crowd Review: When I got this book, I expected no less than a ranting, raving stream-of-consciousness type of book. I was right, in a way. When Ted gets passionate, it can get pretty wild, but in a good portion of this book you get to see the more spiritual and philosophical side of Ted. He discusses the ethics, and morality of hunting, and illustrates his points quite well. I look forward to Ted's next book!
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading for all parents! Review: Ted Nugent may be a wild man, but he's a wild man whose heart is in the right place. What's important? Family first! His devotion to his wife and kids and other family members is exemplary. His aversion to drugs, alcohol and tobacco is amazing, considering his chosen field of endeavor. And he's right on target (no pun intended) when it comes to people's fascination with guns -- why not take this and channel it in a positive manner? Teach your kids gun safety and handling from an early age, just the way you teach them that the stove is hot but useful, matches can be dangerous but useful, the family car is potentially dangerous but useful, etc. Forget this Million Mom march stuff -- quit marching and go home, Moms AND Dads, and spend time with your kids and make sure you know where they are and what they're doing! And read this book -- by the way, you'll really enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: Enlightening the masses Review: Sure Ted's style is over the top. Sure he offends a good portion of humanity. God bless him for it! It is amazing how someone who feels passionate about who they are and what they do can draw ire from so many people. If you're expecting a classically written book, skip this one. The style is 1st person, from Ted's lips to the pages. IT'S FUN. IT'S GOOD HUMOR. If you're a whiner who thinks that limiting the God-given and Constitutionally-given right to own self-defense weaponry is the correct way to go... this book will just make you mad. However, if you're an independent thinker who would like some insight into gun ownership and hunting, with some great stories along the way... buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Straight Talk with Rare Insight Review: This book is a breath of fresh air. Not just for the great stories like hunting with Aerosmith and busting drug dealers backstage, but for his insights. Ted Nugent is not afraid to tell the truth--not just about God, Guns, and Rock 'n' Roll, but about society in general. The solution to schoolyard shootings is not to take away our guns (it's too late for that), but to spend time with our children. Yes, a radical concept. The Motor City Madman actually advocates taking control of your family, your life, and your very survival. It's also refreshing to see one of the few (if not only) rock stars from the '70s who never took drugs. It's sad to see that Ted Nugent is seen as a radical--he says families should spend time with their kids and that drugs and alcohol are bad for you. When I grew up this was called common sense. Thank God for Ted's refresher course.
Rating: Summary: Uncle Ted is right on target Review: The most powerful and truthful books I've read in a long time. As a Second Amendment advocate myself. I found a very strong and powerful message within this book. You know the feeling that you get when you stand and say the pledge allegiance? That same feeling I experienced several times when reading this book. Ted Nugent is a master in the second amendment, hunting sports and Rock 'N Roll. And you can add master writer to that list. I very much enjoyed his honesty and how outspoken he is about drugs and alcohol. As a member of the NRA. I am glad that Ted Nugent is on the board of directors. Uncle Ted god bless you and your family. Mark Vanderberg is the Founder of Michiana Second Amendment Advocates South Bend, Indiana
Rating: Summary: You were maybe expecting more? Review: Gee, what a surprise. Michigan's answer to Bozo the Clown has an opinion about everything while being informed about nothing! If it wasn't for the fact that so many people out there share his stupidities, he'd be funnier.
Rating: Summary: Still laughable after all these years Review: Growing up in Detroit, I got plenty of opportunities to hear Ted's opinions on just about everything, from Steve Miller's use of a synthesizer on "Fly Like an Eagle" (a sellout!) to Ted's own "cure" for street crime (kill 'um!). Sure, Ted always talked like an idiot, but, as David Bowie said of Ziggy Stardust, boy could he play guitar. Like most of Detroiters, I lost interest in Ted's music after. . . oh, let's say "Cat Scratch Fever." Same old same old, you know. Every now and then Ted would resurface with a few new chords (Damn Yankees, anyone?) or an uninformed opinion about the same tired issues (guns guns guns! huntin' huntin' huntin'). Imagine my surprise upon reading Ted's new book! After 25 years, he hasn't changed a bit! His horizons haven't expanded, his opinions haven't matured, his style hasn't mellowed. That's pretty incredible: going for over a quarter of a century without learning a single thing. I give this book two stars--and expect a mighty hammering from Nugent fans because of it--only because it allows old-timers like me to reflect on the old days when we all thought that Ted's self-aggrandizing BS was a good for something more than a laugh. The great white buffalo, indeed.
Rating: Summary: Nuge Memoirs Dripping with Spirit & Attitude Review: God, Guns and Rock-n-Roll is a collection of essays, rants, diatribes and stories told in gonzo style by the inexhaustible Ted Nugent. Loud mouthed, fist waving and in your face, this roller coaster ride celebration of individualism and pride demands the reader to react. Where most of Nuge's contemporaries have drugged themselves to death, Ted's life-long love affair with Mother Nature has him rocking into the new millenium. If you've got an open mind you might find that Ted and his huntin' buddies are not the bloodthirsty Bambi killers the liberal media would have you believe; rather, the hunter is portrayed accurately as active participant and steward of the world's wildlife. Guns? Oh, Ted loves 'em. And why not? He's a law-abiding citizen who will not succumb to being blamed for the wrongs of criminals. GG&RNR takes you on the road with Ted the rockstar, in the woods with Ted the Caveman, and into the arena of politics where drooling office holding pigs are the game of the day and verbal arrows are flung! You'll laugh and you'll think. And above all, agree or disagree, you'll be entertained. And that's what Ted's been about for over 30 years!
