Review: ...but don't let that minor detail keep you from steal-- er, I mean buying this book. Hoffman is a rebel with the cause of bringing down the establishment that he feels is corrupted, evil and oppressive. Most of the phone numbers and addresses in this book are severely out of date, but there is loads of still useful information in "Steal This Book". Harmless methods of obtaining free food, furniture, and clothing are described, as well as some innovative shoplifting techniques are described within. Hoffman even touches briefly on guerilla warfare and bomb-making, etc... Abbie was about freedom, and this book contains some very intriguing methods of exercising your freedom as an Amerikan citizen, whether the pigs like it or not.

Review: A must read for anyone. Abbie was the greatest voice this nation ever had.

Summary: Evil but entertaining
Review: The book's philosophy is reprehensible. It is all about destroying society, with no plans regarding how a bunch of malicious loafers will create a better society after the current one is demolished. Having said that, a lot of the book is pretty entertaining. Hoffman tells of lots of ways to get things for free, and it is amazing to see the lengths he goes to to avoid work. I read the book in high school, and it is fun reading it again now. I just don't think I would recommend it to the unstable.

Summary: Street Survival Guide For The 60's
Review: This book was the BIBLE for street survival. The cons, tips, etc. are SEVERELY DATED by todays standards. But as a runaway, living on the streets of N.Y.C. in the early 70's, ALL THE SCAMS WORKED. I probably would have ended up having to GO HOME, were it not for the information in this book. Todays readers may find it a comical view of the "Revolution", but the people in the know, will tell you it was the greatest thing since the "Welfare Check". I STILL have my original copy (stolen from a bookstore, of course). REQUIRED READING for anyone studying the hippie revolution of the 60's

Summary: thought provoking, entertaining & enlightening
Review: The first time I read this book was while I was in 7th grade. At the time, growing up in a rural Pennsylvania community, this book and it's subjects provoked a great deal of excitement in the youth that read it and consternation among the adults that hadn't. True to his reputation, Abbey provided shock value for a meager price when the book was taken at "face value" as was "ours". It's a sad commemtary that while we read this book and spared th community from the ravishes of our new found knowledge, the same proposition today would scare the hell out of me as a parent in our present social climate. Still, provoking thought is as good a reason to read as any, so when my daughter is old enough she will be encouraged to read Abbey as I had. The only exception being, her copy will be given. Rest in peace Abbey.

Review: Originally I stole the book. Unfortunately, someone stole it from me. Despite the fact that I have always been just a little left of center, I always held the book in high regard. Today, I think it makes recalling those days a treasure. I will display it in my office...just to make them wonder where I'm coming from!

Review: Twenty two years ago on a new years eve my friends and I acted out one of Abbys creations. Three days later we were arrested and I lost my copy. I will be sure to purchase a second one for my office where it will keep me forever young.

Summary: Down with the establishment!
Review: This book reminded me of what is missing from radicalism today, fearlessness. Not only is this a humourous, witty book outlining tips for survival, but it now serves as a social commentary on the hippie movement. Like Robin Hood, Hoffman says ,steal from the capitalists, give to the poor. Today this book inspires me the way it did to other optimistic lefties years ago.

Review: I turn 40 in 4 days. This book really brings me back to High School. It helped define an era, for better or worse?! I lost my copy of Steal This book back in the 70's and can't believe it's still available. Thanks Amazon !! AAhhh, the good old days.

Summary: Steal This Book...actually...I bought it.
Review: Being a 15 year old rebel, I wish the 60's were back. What what world is coming to is awful. The sixties should be back. Abbie Hoffman is a great writer, and I really enjoyed his book!
