Rating: Summary: One-Sided trash Review: Somehow the Right is always Right? It is hard enough swallowing her comments proclaiming Bush as simply a good businessman who made it to the White House. His Arbusto went Bust-O and his baseball team was the result of municipal money and cronies. Then to go on claiming right wing talk radio has merit - like fat pill poppers preaching about drug abuse. Give me a break! Natalie Mainz (who the author trashes)should be ashamed you come from our planet.
Rating: Summary: you mean Hannity before Ideology and $$$ Review: get it right, right winger.
Rating: Summary: Ideology and $$$ before humanity... Review: Only subvertion going on is by those with the guns and money and that is not the "liberals"! As with most things these days follow the money and it will lead you to the truth of who is in the manipulation seat. Funny how these "liberal" bashing books are being writen overnight to cash in on all the $ to be made in them. The anti neocon books coming out are ones that are well researched and/or humorous. Must be due to the fact that they truly do care about what is happening to this country. We live in an age where intelectualism and wisdom is considered anti american it is no supprise that such books are unfortuantly selling.
Rating: Summary: Shut up and become a Communist Review: I am sure there are hundreds of other reviews that knock the heck out of this book but to me the first thing that came to mind is the idea that the author is very much a communist. I would use the term Fascist but she isn't even that creative. Communist dogma also proclaims that a person should be pidgeon holed in a certain line of work and thought. A singer must only sing and have no other thoughts or ideas. A welder must only weld and not have any input into the society in which he/she lives. If her claims are true than only those appointed politicians may speak about anything dealing with society. How scary is that thought? I guess checks and balances and our rights as individuals are just useless.I really thought the whole "Hollywood" agenda was just nuts. Her attempts at pooling all Hollywood types as a microcosm on a tiny island is just laughable. Last time I checked (World Almanac) the actors/singers and others that live in Hollywood all come from different economic and geographic areas across this country. They were not built in Hollywood and their different backgrounds and upbringings were the foundation on which they and the rest of us base our opinions. I find it funny that she enjoys many left wing artists yet will not allow them the freedom to speak of where their foundations lie. I am so glad I did not pay one penny to this person.
Rating: Summary: America Under Attack: From Within Review: In SHUT UP AND SING Laura Ingraham identifies the enemies of America as being both external and internal. The external are a given: anyone who is a radical fundamentalist Islamic. It is the internal enemies that, given the recent toppling of Saddam Hussein, now seem much more the danger. Ingraham labels these internal enemies as 'elites,' those who she insists see themselves as smarter, more cultured, and certainly not to be confused with the greater number of Americans who do not live in the large metropolises of America. Although she does not come right out and say so, these elites are kin to the extreme left wing of the liberal Democratic party that took over many of our college campuses in the 1960s. During the last 30 years, she charges, these 60's rebels, now the establishment, run their academic feifdoms with a stringincy of inflexibility that she finds dismaying. The far reaching fingers of liberal academia have morphed, she further notes, into what passes for political correctness. And for Ingraham, it is politically correct for Hollywood stars to speak out against all things conservatively Republican. Out go the Pledge of Allegiance, school prayer, Christmas tree Santas, and what used to be called old-fashioned flag-waving. In come multilateralism, bowing to the UN altar of Kofi Anan, the belief that any mention of God implies that the mentioner is a Bible thumper straight out of INHERIT THE WIND. Clearly Ingraham is a conservative who falls somewere on the political spectrum between Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter. Given her strategy of labeling elites as such, it is difficult not to accept at least on a subliminal level the veracity of her charges. Still, I would have appreciated a less shrill, and more scholarly approach. If Sean Penn wants to go to Iraq or anyplace else in the Arab world to warn against Penn's vision of the Bush tide of imperialism, then Ingraham's position that Penn is emblematic of an elite would carry greater weight if the reader caught a whiff of a little more even-handedness. And that is the problem with SHUT UP AND SING. Name calling may convince some, but not enough to make such a book a serious work of political philosophy.
Rating: Summary: How dare liberals hide behind freedom of speech!! Review: I just want to say a great big thank you to Laura Ingraham for having the courage to write this book. Since the tide has so obviously turned against conservatives (read Bias, Slander, or The New Thought Police if you don't believe me), I shudder to think what this country would be like if books like Shut Up didn't exist. It's about time someone had the nerve to stand up to these ultra-liberal entertainers always shoving their political agendas down our throats. It just makes me want to scream, it seems like every where I turn I see the likes of Barbra Streisand and Susan Sarandon pushing their anti-American garbage. One just needs to turn on the TV, read a newspaper or a magazine and there they are, all over the place, spewing their hatred of America, of all things good and true. Have they no shame? They are using their positions of power and prestige to brainwash a gullible public- I am outraged. Without this brave book many people might actually be fooled into believing that everybody is a god-hating, unpatriotic, Saddam apologist. I mean, really, if entertainers aren't stopped they could end up in the political arena, where they have no qualifications whatsoever. Entertainers could become, god forbid, governors of states or worse, presidents! Where would that leave us? It would be mortifying for the people of this great nation to watch the political bungling of an entertainer trying to run the country. Thankfully, with good people like Laura, that will never happen.
Rating: Summary: Shut Up and Think Review: Wow. The title is so offensive I just had to write the review. I did read the book, and while it presents compelling internal logic, I think it has a slight problem. Internal logic doesn't need to consider external reality. That is why people claim that they can prove the "international Jewry" run the media. A logic that does not take into acount the external is fiction, because it doesn't look at what is real. This sort of book I will call "current event historial fiction." For instance: Despite what this book implies, the wealthy should probably have more of their income taxed than the poor. Say you make $2.5 milion a year. Given a 25% tax, you pocket $1,875,000 a year. If you make $25,000 a year, you pocket $18,750. Yet the poor get taxed more than the rich because the rich supposedly earned all of their money, whereas poor and undereducated minority workers are lazy. I hate books that say that sort of thing.
Rating: Summary: Simon Cowell Wannabe Review: Has Ingraham ever won an Oscar? Didn't think so. So how can she judge Oscar winners? She lampoons the "elitist" intentions of the Hollywood crowd yet Ingraham has NEVER even won an Emmy, let alone been nominated for a Tony. So do us all a favor Ingraham and win a Grammy before badmouthing multiple Grammy winner John Mellencamp.
Rating: Summary: A Well Reasoned, And Well Thought Out Thesis. Review: Great Book ! Should be required reading for ANY and EVERY High School Student !
Rating: Summary: A Life Preserver Review: I live in the most liberal bastion in the U.S. I need books like this to keep my wits about me. The negative reviews dwell on freedom of speech, truth, love of country, etc...something the writers are trying to control and eliminate, but use it as a weapon to beat the less informed into submission. Oh, the poor children, racist, tolerance are the words they usually use in the street. A very odd turn of events for these situational ethics cretins. The liberalism here and the liberalism in Europe is much different, however, it does seem to be lumped in the same kettle of fish. Talking to most liberals here is like talking to a braindead zombie, while talking to liberals in Europe, one can talk about the many sides of an issue and even convince them of a more conservative viewpoint. I.E. their thinking is not rigid as thinking has become on both sides here. Unfortunately, the pendulum has swung too far to the left at the moment and it must be thoughtfully and convincingly be centered with more compromise from both sides on issues that are important to our future. Anyway, Laura is 95% on from my viewpoint and her detracters need to inhale.
