Rating: Summary: Get back in the game. Review: Democrats have for far too long allowed republicans to define them and what they stand for. It is time for them to regain the offensive with good information like that presented in Carvilles book. If this information could be effectively distilled and presented to the american public the fallacies that republicans are the preferred party on defense, education and the economy could be countered. Republicans have done a better job of defining themselves and their values and have staked out their ground. In most cases those values coincide well with those of democrats. The mean spirited, self interested and devisive style of the Bush administration however, is wearing very thin for a lot of my republican friends as well. Carville does an excellent job of pointing out those ideals and virtues traditionally associated with the democratic party and challenged the party to get off it's backside and fight for what they believe in and stop being defensive about being a democrat. The facts on the issues of the day as well as Bush's performance over the last three years will make the choice an easy one and George hopefully, will join the ranks of the unemployed. Unfortunately, he will not feel the pain his 3 million plus fellow americans are feeling.
Rating: Summary: There is only one interesting idea in this book Review: When we think of quality literature, what comes to mind? Usually the book elevates the reader by bringing new ideas to mind -- and creates an atmosphere where new ideas can be reached. Most of Carville's book regurgitates the garden-variety criticisms of President Bush -- he caters to the rich, he isn't spending enough on X or Y program, Bush is out of touch, Democrats are stronger candidate, etcetera, etcetera. The language, full of obscenities and middle-school talk, seems to come from the Michael Moore School of Literature. It is unfortunate that someone who professes to cater to Democratic interests would harm his own party by showing that the party stands for nothing other than complaints. Yet there was one idea that seemed to make a little sense, although it should be applied to Social Security reform. Mr. Carville apparently believes that it is okay to invest newborn baby's $3,000 of government-given assets into a conservative allocation of funds, which would result in a fairly hefty amount by the time it reaches a certain age. This sounds nice Mr. Carville, but what about Social Security, an existing program. Shouldn't we allow individual workers the opportunity to invest too? Michael
Rating: Summary: Oh Goodness Review: James Carville in his *completely* unbiased point of view, tells us how we should think. Thank you so much, Mr. Carville. I didn't know what was good for me until you told me. This book is just another piece of insipid garbage by someone so far off to the left he's lost a complete hold on reality. First off, I'm not another Democrat-bashing Republican. I am a Republican but I've had respect for many Democratic presidents and presidential candidates (such as FDR and former Dem. candidate Lieberman). Mr. Carville doesn't really care to report the facts, but he couldn't because they would make his party look bad. 1.) The economy was already in recession when Bush took office. 2.) Clinton was the one who pardoned a boat load of terrorists before leaving office. 3.) Clinton did great things for the economy and had unemployment at a low but he was not at all competent when it came to military. And the new democratic candidate, John Kerry, is not helping by criticizing Bush for not supplying the military with sufficent supplies, yet he was the one who voted AGAINST sending the troops supplies when he was a senator! Another thing that really bothers me is the Carville cannot make a point like a rational adult (he also probably can't make a point because he doesn't have any). I've seen him on a couple of talk shows and he sounds like an 8th grader. Example: He was talking about some Republican, whose name escapes me right now, and he said "I wouldn't piss in his mouth if his insides were on fire" or something to that affect. He comes across as childish and so does this book. If you want a book that represents the Democratic party in a good light, I wouldn't choose this because it makes them look like incoherent idiots and many of them are not.
Rating: Summary: Fresh Air Review: First of all, I am grateful to Mr. Carville for his respect for the English Language; unlike many of his fellow newspeople, he retains the distinction between "Democrat", which is a noun, not an adjective, and "Democratic", which is the adjective. This book is not just preaching to the choir, it also admonishes the choir for their wishy-washy behavior toward the worst administration in modern times. But primarily it targets George W. Bush for his dismal record in matters of the economy and national security. In this, Carville is refreshingly blunt. Had Enough? does not address the portion of the American people who feels the need to mount the Ten Commandments in every public place, and design constitutional amendments for each affront to their narrow-minded values, while ignoring the significance of the crimes of Enron and Halliburton, the mounting deficit and its effect on state budgets, and the war that Bush lied to us to get us to accept. These people who vote to maintain their own bigoted interference over the private lives of others in the bedroom and elsewhere, are the ones that this author does not address, because he knows they would only retrench further into their Medieval ethics. The book implies that we must defeat them since we cannot reason with them. Support for better education, a strong point of the book, may be the only way to (eventually) establish Carville's had-enough proposed solutions. Carville pesents a handbook for those of us who support a regime change.
Rating: Summary: Get rid of the B-movie cowboy! Review: Thank you to Mr. Carville for organizing a focused and effective way to stuff a sock in every ignorant Republican's self-serving blathering mouth! There's a real plan in this book that every American (even Republicans) should be reading and trying to understand. There are answers in this book to the real problems that GWB and his greedy gang are creating, like running our country into unfathomable debt and an uncertain future for Social Security and Medicare. At the very least, Americans should read this book to understand what Democrats and Republicans are fighting over in 2004. You will be surprised to see what they both stand for...
Rating: Summary: Hate non-reading hypocrites Review: I'm buying this book so haven't read it yet, but I get really upset when someone reviews a book they haven't even read just to pull down the rating. I'll bet these are the same people who didn't read Hillary Clinton's book but gave it a bad review. The people here who did that are just like Bush, non-readers with little narrow minds who can't stand the idea of someone disagreeing with them. That is so unAmerican.
Rating: Summary: Wah, wah, waaaaaaaahhhhh. Review: "Had Enough" is a book written By James Carville. Have you ever seen or heard James Carville on TV or radio? He is possibly the most offensive childish man you will ever see. He throws bona fide temper tantrums over the silliest notions. He stands with both feet on the weakest arguements and screams his FOOL head off over ridiculous nothings. I understand he has to make a living and apparently being an obnoxious horse's rear end pays dividends in some circles, but otherwise there is no explaining the amount of angry bile this man spits out whenever he's handed a microphone. I have sympathy for all the people in his life who have to endure this repugnant creature. The good news is: we don't have to. Don't read his book, don't listen to him on TV or radio. Turn this sad little man off before he makes you as unhappy as he is.
Rating: Summary: IVE "HAD ENOUGH" OF JAMES CARVILLE Review: THIS DUDE MAKES THE DEMOCRATS LOOK EVEN MORE PATHETIC THEN THEY ALREADY ARE! GET SEAN HANNITY'S NEW BOOK INSTEAD. UNLIKE CARVILLE'S IT'S ACTUALLY SELLING ON THE NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER LIST. BUSH FOR 04!!
Rating: Summary: Love this book! Review: This book is fabulous. It's a quick read. It's very well-written. And while I have enjoyed the heck out of the humor and passion of other political books lately, Carville's shows us what's wrong AND some ideas on how to fix things. This book gave me a lot of hope that some of the issues we face now are fixable... if we have the right leaders.
Rating: Summary: Smear this! Review: Dear reader and potential reviewer: If you are going to smear this book, please give some substantiated specifics why it is bad or evil or wrong. Stating that this book "smears" Republicans occurs to me as the type of vacuous tactic that has been working for a long time. Non-republicans: Stop letting these sophmoric tactics work. Buy this book and learn how to defend factual observations of world events and our economy. I have a partisan perspective. I feel that a strategy is only as sound as the facts on which they are based. When there are intentional lies, then what is called strategy is actually propaganda. Often, propaganda calls its opposition propaganda. You must discern for yourself what is real. The facts presented in this book, facts that are substantiated by more than quoting one's own side, demand a reinterpretation of "news" on mainstream media. If you don't like the way things are working, read this book, join an effective conversation.
