Summary: I am attracted to this type of book
Review: I like these sort of "Adventure" books as a change from the "Oprah Book Club" type novels. I enjoyed reading about Chris McCandless and his adventures. I found him to be a selfish child, yet I understood his philosophies. He acted stupidly, yet I think that because he died, he left a strong message for all of us to hear. His life served a purpose, a very important one. And maybe if he had lived, his message would have never been heard.

I wasn't so hot on the way Jon Krakauer added his own expeditions into the story line, I felt it was unnecessary. He also didn't need to use other adventurer's examples. Chris McCandless's adventure was story enough by itself. I ended up skipping over those chapter's paralleling Chris's story.

I sympathsize for Chris's parents and sister, but feel they understand there son/brother better than anyone.

Summary: wonderful written
Review: McCandless did what he want to do, which most people have no fate to try. I think this is a great book for everyone. The story was very structure and the purpose was well written. Adam Zheng ªZ ô

Summary: What exactly was the point of this book?
Review: Jon Krakauer's organization in his book Into the Wild was jumpy and confusing. It doesn't seem as if the author ever settles on a style of organizing his writing, and just writes what comes to mind about whichever interview is on top. Then the author suddenly begins to write about other people who have died in the wild before even finishing the first story! The author's interjection of his own experiences show the reader how to relate to what Chris was feeling, yet as before, the his story isn't even finished at this point in the book.. This reader feels that it is confusing to hear opinions and reasons for the actions of Chris McCainles before we even knows what all happened to the boy.

Summary: This book really affected me.........
Review: I have rarely been more absorbed by a book than this one. This book is also tremendously well-written and researched. It was obvious that the author Jon Krakauer cared deeply about the story and the story's central character. While many question the motives and actions of Christopher McCandless - many have called his actions foolish and reckless. I beg to differ. I think many of us have the same dreams and desires as Christopher, yet never have enough courage to act them out. Unfortunately, the results were tragic, but in the end, Christopher McCandless was at peace with himself, and lived more life in his 24 years than many have in entire lifetimes. That's more than most can say. I tip my hat to Mr. Krakauer for sharing this brilliant, touching and deeply moving story. It is one of my favorites of all time.

Summary: Into the Wild Review
Review: Jon Krakaurers novel "Into the Wild" was a good book that made the reader think about life. Chris McCandless left all of his posessions and family in order to live out his dream. But he still seemed to be a hypocrit who was very disrespectful. When Chris left he left his parents without telling them, and he let them worry the whole time he was gone. He also seemed to live his dream life off and on when ever hee felt like it. He would wonder freely for a while until he got lonely or hungry, then he would take up a job for a while. This type of life style contradicted the way he set off to live. Although Chris left everything to fulfill his dream he did not think about how his family would feel and he did not always live up to what his dream was.

Summary: Not the best book I've read
Review: Jon Krakauer's book Into The Wild wasn't bad but not one I couldn't put down. The reason for this is because I don't really like Chris McCandless. I can relate to him in the fact that he wanted his freedom and to experience life to the fullest in nature, but he used that as an excuse to run away from his problems at home and with his father. Through the book he didn't really follow his ideals that he clames he holds so dear. In the begginning he gave his money to charity, ditched he car, and burned his cash. But later he gets a job and then goes out into the deasert by himself the comes back to society and gets another job and opens a bank account. By then end Chris gets really cocky and believes that he can survive anything and dosn't take the advice of other more experienced people such as the man who gave him a ride to Stampede Trail.

Summary: Display of intense courage to be respected
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book and could relate to McCandless's story. I admired his courage to step out of a set and expected plan for his life. He wanted to challenge himself as to whether he was strong enough and possessed enough desire to leave society and face his true self and surroundings in nature. Some think he is foolish because he gave up money and what is viewed as the "good life", but what makes one person happy doesn't necessarily apply to the next. Society is so focused on money and technology and it was a huge step for McCandless to turn his back to that in exchange for what he truly loved. I don't think he should be criticized or called crazy simply because he wanted to explore what many people never find in their lives: the power and beauty of nature and the strength and independence within himself.

Summary: A Great Book for those that want to Change
Review: Jon Krakauer does an excellent job of portraying what might have been in the mind of Chris McCandless. Krakauer portrays the drive of adventure and for the search of freedom through McCandless. McCandless not only decides to change his way of living, but actually goes out and does literally. He gives up all that was ahead of him a good job, comfortable living, in other words a good future. Krakauer goes through McCandless' journal entries and describes the adventure and the changes that McCandless went through. Krakauer descpription of the changes McCandless goes through portrays the drive inside of humanity. The drive to do something different, the drive to just go out and live, instead of sitting back and letting life go by. The descriptions by Krakauer are very decisive and to the point, but leaves the reader able to make his or her own decision on the McCandless issue of whether McCandless was selfish or rightous.

Summary: Reviewing Krakauer's "Into the Wild"
Review: The book "Into the Wild" depicts Chris McCandless' journey across America and beyond with factual information collected and organized by Jon Krakauer. It is written with an unusual style with Krakauer's personal experience thrown into it and an organizational style which I personally found irritating at times, especially in the beginning where Krakauer reveals the ending of the book. Otherwise, the style and content of the book were satisfactory to explain the tale. I personally related with this story and found myself interested as to what would happen next. Before I read this book I had never heard of Chris McCandless and his unusual jaunt into wilderness. I think that McCandless deserves attention for what he did and people should know about his bravery (or recklessness as some people might say). The book is filled with information that people might not have heard until now about McCandless' journey. I think that it is a good book because it appeals to my love of nature. Also how people just want to follow their dreams and get away from the everyday bustle of today's society. I would recommend this book to people who like nature or relate with what McCandless did with his life.

Summary: Into the Wild is a well-written and intense book.
Review: There is a little of Chris McCandless in all of us. Let's face it, at some point in our lives, we all experience a feeling that society is suffocating us. Although he made some bad decisions along the way, he was doing what he thought was right for him. He was sick and tired of the regimen that we have to follow. What defines success in society today is getting that expensive college degree, graduating, and eventually falling into the workforce. As a college student, I often wonder "is this really worth it?" McCandless obviously felt that he wanted more from life, but in the least materialistic way possible. He wanted to experience a freedom that lurked all across the country and in the Alaska wilderness. He wanted to escape the normality of our society and find a place that was more pure and simple. McCandless was not selfish, but rather just making his own conscious decisions. There is no crime in that. So he gave up everything in his life that he had been given or that he had worked so hard for, but in the end, he was just following his heart. "Into the Wild" is an intense book about that almost everyone can relate to.
