Summary: Great Attention to Detail or so*
Review: I would give this a 4.5 but Amazon only allows whole numbers. I have mike Meyers network+ book and read it and it was great ( was actually used in my college and is very humorous which is key when your studying until 3-4 am! ) However I felt that I needed some more knowledge I was fully confident in what I just learned from that book and in class so I bought this book. And I opened it up and read through it in 3 days easy. It's a great read and covers some great advanced concepts and the style is great.

However there are an awful lot of typos especially in the first couple of chapters I mean come on this stuff is BASIC stuff people must know and it's so very wrong in the first chapter some beginners might get scared! ( The Q and A's either help or hinder the typos found heavily in the beginning of the book - did they only have people review on the advanced topics? =X )

All in all I loved this book and put any fears I had about the exam far away from my head. I took the exam in less than 30 mins and scored high 800's out of 900's. The preplogic Questions are awesome and helped me the most ( I bought the premium ones and several of the questions - simulators such as what does netstat command output etc - and others really helped me out ).

Summary: Great Book
Review: If you are an experienced technician this is the book for you. It gets right to the point in covering the objectives of the exam. I passed my exam this weekend.

If you are new to the field I suggest you read another Network+ book with greater detail before you get the exam cram.

Good luck!

Summary: This book delivers...
Review: If you are looking for a good book to study prior to taking the Network+ exam this is the one. I scored an 873 the first time. I read this book over and over and over in a 4 week period, made plenty of notes, highlighted pertinent info., and passed the test. I didn't bother using the cd-rom. Checked out maybe 2 or 3 of the questions and didn't bother with it again. I also went to techexam's website and tried there practice questions which also helped out and also bought TestPrep software from TechSkills which helped out too.

If you are going to buy any book to prepare for the Network+, don't waste your money compiling a collection of books for the test. This is all you need. Also recommend TechSkill's testprep software. They give you an overkill of prep questions that do a great job of preparing you for the test. Don't waste your time with the cd-rom that comes with this book.

Summary: good enough if you have experience
Review: just got my network+ today. I used this book and some practice exams that i bought online. mostly I would say that if you know the topologies and media/connectors and TCP/IP suite, ports and all, then you will be ok. for the real test the part that could trip you up is the network support stuff that can be a bit confusing but as long as you have the other stuff down you'll be ok and that is basically what is in this book - the other stuff.

Summary: This is the best book for the money to pass Network+
Review: Not only does this book give you an excellent, all-around knowledge of the various facets of networking, it ALSO prepares you for the questions you'll face on the Network+ exam. It comes with a CD that contains a hefty practice test, and there are loads of practice questions in the book.

Summary: Depended mainly on this book - passed
Review: Passed on first attempt with score 846 in November 2003, first ever IT certification test taken.

(I also used an OLD 2000 edition of ExamBlaster for Network+, $15 USD in a small computer store, its not worth more. It only served to minimize memorizing the one free PrepLogic exam supplied with the book.)

The 2nd in-book exam had minor errors where multiple-answer problems were not correctly denoted with check-boxes like the 1st in-book exam. Perhaps they could have done a better job on selecting solutions with Novell & 2000/NT/98 mixed networks.

I relied mainly on the two in-book exams (scored mid-80s%) and the one free PrepLogic exam (hit 100% on last attempt). I probably read the book end-to-end four times. I didn't try the additional for-purchase PrepLogic exams.

Note - see the inside back cover for a discount that you must obtain before you schedule your exam.

Profile: I've been working with PC/Apple networks as a part (not central) of my work for about 20 years. I had wireless network experience (predates 802.11) where I first learned how TCP/IP worked. I've used/managed a personal Linksys firewall for three years. And I have a BSEET degree.

Summary: Passed the first time.
Review: The book is quite comprehensive and somewhat un-orderly but it provided me with the information I needed to pass the test the first time. I only used the book and the Prep Logic practice test that came with it for studying. Do not be discouraged by the Prep Logic practice test, the practice test is harder then the actual test. I scored 793.

Summary: Great Book***
Review: This book certainly helped me pass the exam. The things I liked about the book:

* Follows the Network+ exam objectives making it easy to find the information.
* Material is all there to pass the exam.
* Practice exams really prepared me for the exam.
* Cram sheet at the front of the book is awesome for last minute test prep.
* 30% off exam discount!!!

This book was well worth the investment.

Summary: Excellect Last Minute Review
Review: This book covers all subjects on the test. It was excellet to use for studying before the test. Keep in mind it is an examcram and not tutorial for those who have no experience networking.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: NOT everything you need
Review: This book gives you a good foundation of knowledge for the Network+ exam, but it is definitely NOT all you need. I received some questions on topics in my actual exam that were not covered at all (not even glossed over or mentioned) in this book--thankfully I had used a second source and real-world knowledge. I also came accross a few errors in the book . . . not just typos or editing errors, but actual incorrect information. Like I said, the book will give you a good foundation for the exam, but you'd better use a second study source and/or some real-world knowledge. And DEFINITELY don't expect to be able to read this book to learn the job!
