Rating: Summary: A Thought-Provoking Book Review: Sylvia has packed a lot into this book. It gives you a lot to think about, but is written with her usual humor. Liked the part about funerals where she said that the departed one won't be there to see who came or who sent what kind of flowers! Funeral industry won't like that!I would imagine that fundamentalist Christians would be upset by this book as I think it is so different than what they believe. Of course, they will criticize her for writing what they don't understand. Explanation of different angels and other beings was very good. It's one book that you should read more than once to get it all.
Rating: Summary: Change your beliefs Review: If you would like to change your belief in an angry, punishing god, to a belief in a living God of unconditional love, I recommend three books: 1. An Encounter With A Prophet by C. A. Lewis 2. Life on the Other Side : A Psychic's Tour of the Afterlife by Sylvia Browne, Lindsay Harrison 3. Conversations With God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1) by Neale Donald Walsch
Rating: Summary: Sylvia as usual comes through . . . Review: I love Sylvia's books because she always tells it like it is. She is one down-to-earth lady. More and more people are changing their views on life and death and Sylvia perhaps comes over sounding like you can really believe everything she says, without doubting her. Sylvia Browne is no phoney and perhaps for that reason, I love all of her books. She is not biased against any religious faith and also for that reason, anyone with an open mind will get something out of her books. After all, she states, there is only one God. Read this one with an open mind and you too may just find what you are looking for; perhaps even lose your fear of death.
Rating: Summary: Take what you want Review: I have read Sylvia's book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes me feel much better to know that there is life after this one. TO the person who was upset with how Sylvia described Heaven, I think honestly that Heaven truly is whatever we can dream it to be. Something wonderful and beautiful. We can only create such a perfect place in our minds. It is up to each and every one of us to create our idea of Heaven. It gives us something to look forword to. Sylvia does a great job at making people feel ok about themselves and that we are given a chance to become better people. After reading her work I WANT to go and do something for someone who is less fortunate. This book taught me to appreciate life and go out and do great things. I am not a Church-goer. I have struggled with organized religion for so long. I never fit in anywhere. I was tired of hearing about an angry God. I got lost in the sermons all of the time. Sylvia has a great way of getting a point across and she is very funny. I was fortunate enough to attend a lecture of hers and I walked out of there feeling lighter than air. I feel very comfortable where I am in life. I maynot attend Church but I respect the people who do. Everyone of us, whether we go to Church or not, has the same goal. To love God and do our best in this life. Sylvia is great. Her books made a huge impact on my life. Read it and take what you want from it. We will interpet things differently and that is what makes us special.
Rating: Summary: Life on the Other Side : A Psychic's Tour of the Afterlife [ Review: I haven't read this book and don't really need to. I have had the destinct pleasure of knowing Ms. Browne long before she became famous. I spent time in her home and know firsthand that she is indeed carrying (I won't say a God given) but I will say a given psychic ability. During this time in my life I was not a Christian but I had a lot of questions and curiosities. So I was intrigued by her. I am now a strong believer in God, Christ and heaven. And as much as I believe in the existence of God and goodness, I also believe in the existence of evil. I don't believe that evil shows its face by hitting you over the head (you know that head spinning, earth opening up, Hollywood version of evil) but works its way slowly and convincingly into your soul. Even way back then, when I stood in her house, I knew there was something innately wrong at the root of the soul of this woman. She preaches about God and heaven, but you would have to be absolutely blind not to see that she worships only one God, and that God is the almighty dollar. You can continue to contribute to her empire and to her "church", but I can honestly tell you that all she charges you for already exists in your heart.
Rating: Summary: Did anyone notice the discrepancies? Review: Don't get me wrong. I don't want to bash anything or anyone who advocates spirituality. But my rational mind just can't get beyond some factual errors this author makes. She makes a statement early in the book about "the Salem witches who were burned at the stake." They WEREN'T burned at the stake, they were hung. Since she makes such a case for her Spititual Guide knowing the causes of death of various people, this error really was quite jarring to me. Also, at the beginning of the book she says Francine died in 1520. Later on she says Francine's life came to end in 1598. Which is it? And why would she make such an error if she has been communicating with this spirit for over fifty years? (Also, where is her editor!) That said, I did find Sylvia's message peaceful and hopeful, and that can't be all bad, can it?
Rating: Summary: Absolutely, posetively, undeniably an amazing book!!!!! Review: It is my opinion that some of these other people here writing a review are bible-thumpers. They could not imagine anything past thier small minded cristian belief system. Do not listen to them. They will display as much flexibility and openness in a religious debate as a jahovas witness. Sylvia Browne's book was absolutely enlightening. Well written as usual. It answers every question you have ever asked, and just when you think she has left out something...it appears in the book. As she stated on Larry King: "I'm like a tour guide." I will agree you must take a leap of faith in believing this book, but it is a positive and love filled one. Five stars!!! Man! Five stars!!!!
Rating: Summary: How disalussioning Review: Most of us want or need something to hold on to in regards to our afterlife. Especially when we've lost someone so dear to us. In reading this book, I was so swept away with the beauty of it all. I read the Bible but cannot seem to be able to grasp it with a real understanding of some things. So, when Ms. Browne came out with this book convincing us of her authenticity, I read it avidly. Then I decided to look further and went into her web site. Was I ever thrown for a loop. If a person truly has a genuine insight into such things, how could they possibly cheapen God and the afterlife with her moneymaking propaganda for her specially trained psychics, tarot card readings, all this garbage you see advertised and the streets in abundance. I am totally disappointed with this book. It is a phoney trying to fill our minds with this beautiful Home we will return to and making a fortune off of our gullability. How sad to use people in such a way.
Rating: Summary: Warm, Funny & Wonderful! Review: Life on the Other Side is written in a way that makes you feel like you are chatting with Sylvia in your own living room. She tells many humorous stories about her personal experiences and gives detailed information about her spirit guide Francine, the process of "death" or going through the tunnel and the day to day activities of those who have passed on. All without preaching or sounding religious! I didn't want the book to end. If you like this book, another great book with a style that's easy to read and understand is WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK by Ariel & Shya Kane. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: It Is Time To Understand Death Review: I have been on the spiritual pathway for 50 years. I have been in the church as a leader and teacher, and in the last 15 years, have been a teacher and reader in the metaphysical world. I owned a metaphysical store for many years, and have been around the block a few times. Over the years I have watched the changes come into the spiritual world. In the 60's, the church world was rocked by the Charismatic renewal, and from there things changed and changed. Today Metaphysics is actually respectable. Once upon a time, it was not. I have also over the years watched the emphasis change on different subjects of truth, and since the time when ANGELS and CRYSTALS were skyrocketing in popularity I wondered what would come after the popularity of ANGELS and CRYSTALS died down. Today I see where we are going again as a mass mind learning truth and remembering our roots. It is time for the mystery and fear and gripping terror that death brings to so many people in the world to cease. Death from my perspective is another part of living, just as birth is. Why is birth accepted and rejoiced over, and death is not? Is it not an integral part of life over and over? Of course. Death should be joyous, and celebrations should be held, for it is a release from the suffering in this world. That is a fact, life is wonderful and a treasure, but at least part of the time it is very hard. Having been a spiritual teacher for many years and a psychic myself, I do concure with Sylvia on many points of her book. The only place I do not agree with her are in the finite details as in names and specific things, for I have learned we all see these things, but see and hear them differently, and yet there is the thread of truth that runs through all of what we see, for we are One, we are all part of the human event, and we have on a very high level agreed to do this thing together for some glorious incredible purpose that is somewhat hidden from us in its fullness. That is all right. Someday all will be clear. Jesus said to the person being crucified on a tree next to Him, "Whom do you say I am?" and the man answered, "Truly, you are the son of God," And what was Christ's answer to him? "Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise." The place Sylvia sees is Paradise. In Sanskrit there is the "home" world we all come from where life is beautiful and whole and lived in the constant glow and brillience of the Ascendant, and darkness does not exist. That place is called "Para." It is known to exist side by side with this world we struggle in with so many limitations. In the Christian Bible, also, and in other great spiritual works, there is agreement on much of what she has told us. So, my opinion of Sylvia's book is, "Good for you, my dear. You had the courage to write it and put yourself out there to be abased and ridiculed and criticized by many who are not ready to see that there really is a paradise." Many of her experiences parallel my own, with a different slant. As far as the $700.00 for a reading, I know that is a lot. I charge $60. But readings take a lot out of me as I put my whole concentrated energy into doing one. For people such as Sylvia who are sought after by many, many needy people, putting a high price on a reading as she has done is to me a way of protecting herself. I am sure she gives a lot away, for that is the way of we who do walk this pathway, we do service in ways you cannot imagine, as our whole life is spent in teaching and service, and somewhere the energy exchange of money must exist or the Sylvias of this World would be eaten alive. Imagine yourself receiving in a day 1,000 phone calls and all of them want a reading for $35. What would you do? So, enjoy the book. Let it speak to you, if not in minute detail, in the overall emphasis of the book, yes, there is a paradise. I have been there. I have seen it. It is real. And if you want to learn your name or your sacred mantra, it is very simple. You can meditate while sitting on the edge of your bed before going to sleep. The Kingdom of God is within you. All you do is still yourself, take three deep breaths and release them slowly to the sound of AUM, drawing the holy sound out, and after doing that 3 times, relax, and make the statement, I desire to know my sacred mantra, and picture yourself sitting in a beautiful garden somewhere with stillness and light, and, I promise you, it will come to you. When you use it, you will feel its power. My sacred sound is: "Rama-ah-ra." May peace be your way. Barbara
