Summary: The BEST researched historical novel that I've read
Review: Mr Lund has done an almost superhuman job of doing the research necessary to make this novel believable. I was most impressed with the details of the town of Palmyra and vicinity as well as the historical context of the Erie Canal. I hadn't realized that the Erie Canal went through the area (I live in Washington State and have never been to the Palmyra area). Lund's descriptions were so clear that I could easily picture the setting of each Chapter. The book also has historically accurate tidbits of information about LDS Church history, which added interest to the story.

Reading this book has given me an interest in taking a vacation to visit historic LDS Church landmarks in the eastern USA.

Summary: Fictional History, nothing more, nothing less.
Review: Mr. Lund has given us a wonderful work of fiction. He presents his book as an accurate portrayal of the history of the LDS Church, even showing the mistakes and human frailties of some early church leaders to make it look convincing.

Mr. Lund is an LDS author, and he presents the very sterilized view of history that the LDS church wants the world to believe. The writing style and the storytellilng are first rate, but if you are looking for a more accurate history of the LDS church, try a different book, such as One Nation Under Gods by Richard Abanes.

Summary: Outstanding!!
Review: Never before have I had such a passion for reading a book. I am now on Volume 6, "Praise to the Man". As soon as I finish a volume, I have to immediately read the next. These books wonderfully and accurately depict Church History. I hope to finish the whole series and read it through again!!

Summary: You can't put this one down.
Review: Simply put, this book was great. It was loaned to me shortly after my own baptism, however, I didn't take the time to read it for almost a year. I'm not usually one to enjoy reading "historical" types of stories, but once I started, I was amazed at how much this one captured my interest and helped my understanding. It's a great novel, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: The Work and the Glory books have been a light for me.
Review: Thank you so much, Mr. Lund. I have read the series 2 times already in the past year and have to stop myself from reading them again. I love your books and the Work and the Glory have taught me so much about this wonderful church. I have gotten to know Joseph Smith so much and want to know him in person one day. I feel like I know the Steed family and have come to better appreciate what the Saints have gone through and done for us. Thank you!

Summary: An excellent mix of history and fiction
Review: The book eloquently describes the trials and triumphs of several members of the Steed family who have recently joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The author does an exceptional job of weaving the rich (albeit short) history of the church with fictional characters you can easily identify with.

Summary: Excellent reading
Review: The entire "The Work and the Glory" series is absolutely excellent. The author has placed fictional characters into true historical events in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, yielding a book that is both highly entertaining and educating. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty in researching his subject, providing detailed accounts of what is true, what is fictional, and the sources from which his research is derived. Anyone interested in pioneer life will love this series. I generally do not enjoy reading, but I could not put these books down. There are 9 volumes in the series, and I read them all in two months! Truly excellent literature.
