Summary: Makes you feel for the characters!
Review: Although I found The Puritans to be a little bit hard to get into, it certainly made up for itself later! Jack Cavanaugh does a wonderful job of making his characters come to life! I found myself crying and laughing. I was shocked throughout the whole thing; I didn't figure out the plot early like some books. It takes so many twists and turns! Wonderful. I would definitely recommend this series!

Summary: Well written, but quite violent
Review: I agree with the reader from Minnesota--I enjoyed the historical aspects of this book, as well as the exciting plot and romance, but the sick violence that Cavanaugh describes left some horrific images with me for several weeks after I had finished. There are some really gross, demonic, weird scenes described, especially near the end. Great nightmare material.

Summary: I did not enjoy this book at all
Review: I did not like this book at all! It gave me a weird feeling as I read it. Sure there are certain aspects of the book that are not all that bad, such as, the historical significance intertwined within the story. But, for the most part, the story weirded me out. There were certain events that Cavanaugh described in such detail that it made me sick to my stomach. I couldn't get some of the things he described out of my head. And still, I remember certain things that are just not worth the reading experience of this book. If you do want to read one of Cavanaugh's books, I suggest "The Allies" or "The Victors." They, in my opinion, were good historical books.

Summary: I loved it
Review: I enjoyed this book very much. Cavanaugh's writing style makes for a very smooth and pleasant reading experience, while he captivates you with surprisingly deep characters, toys with your emotions, and surprises you with unexpected twists. He does a fabulous job of weaving a believable story into a historically accurate setting. I personally found this book hard to put down, for there is not a dull moment from cover to cover. I highly recommend this book to you if you have any interest in history, religious persecution, or if you just plain enjoy good novels. The effects of this book on me extend beyond the reach of simply enjoyable reading; it also has changed the way I think of the Puritan movement. I believe that if you read this book it will have a positive effect on you as well.

Summary: It made me cry, laugh, and triggered every other emotion.
Review: I first read this when I was 15. I am now 18 and have read it 3-4 times already. I'm lingering in his other excellent novels as we speak. I love them! Cavanaugh has a beautiful talent given from God that lightens his pages and my eyes. The charachters became a part of me that when they end I cry because it's such an enlightening story! I recommend this to anyone and everyone to all ages! Enjoy!

Summary: The Puritains is one of my favorites
Review: I have read every one of Jack Cavanaugh's books, and this one is my favorite. It's history is not at all boring, but so entertaining that putting the book down was near impossible. I've read this book over and over and it always amazes me how well writen and beautiful this book is. I'm very proud of my father's accomplishments, his books are well worth the read.

Summary: What a great start to a historical series!
Review: I have to admit that it took the first three chapters to get me into the novel, but I loved every minute of reading it! Although the whole book was well written, the quality of the characters are astounding. As the first book in a series of eight, The Puritans begins in England during the early 1600's when freedom and religion were at stake. Drew Morgan comes on the scene as an adversary to the Puritans, and comes full circle to help forge a new land of religious freedom. I highly recommend this book and the remaining seven in the series.

Summary: One of my favorites!
Review: I loved this book--it's one of my favorites in the series, and one of my favorite novels! It's just so emotional and deep and exciting...It also has romance (maybe a bit too much), adventure, and Christian values. I was brought to tears, and I laughed...all of The American Family Portrait series is good, but this is one of my favorites, as I've said. The characters in all of his books are so real!

Yes, there were some rather violent moments, almost gruesome, but it just brought me more concern and appreciation for the characters and all they went through.

I read it first when I was 14 or 15, and I'm looking forward to reading it again in future years!

Review: I really liked this book. It was very easy to just put myself in the situations with the characters. I also liked how Mr. Cavanaugh explained why he wrote what he did. I'm glad this is a series and I can't wait to read the next ones.
