Summary: AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO FINDS THIS SERIES BORING??
Review: This is my second "dark" story. My first was Dark Prince. I recently became interested in paranormal romance. I started with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter romances and wanted to try a new author between her stories. And, after reading these stories, I may have to try one of Sherrilyn's other series. Feehan's "Dark" series are so "dry" that I practically fall asleep while reading them. Plain and simple, they are BORING! I'm not sure exactly why this is. Maybe it's the repetitive language. All of the Carpathian men seem to sound alike, if not physically, then certainly many aspects of their characteristics. Gregori sounded so much like Mikhail that they could have been the same person. I know this is my second story, but does all Carpathian men lose control and rape their women the first time they are together? Maybe it's a standard for them. Even the language is the same. "Molten Lava" does seem to be a "catch phrase" in these books. My goodness Christine, when you write so many stories about a group of people, mix it up a little. We don't want to read the same story in every book. Must there always be an evil vampire? Why not a vampire, who is innately good? Please, give us more CONFLICTS!!!!The story was really slow and I found myself "mindlessly" reading passages just to get through the book. Then I'll get to another part, realize I have no idea what they're talking about, and have to reread the passages I just "skimmed through." I "never" had to do this with even the worst of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, (ie:Dance with the Devil and Kiss of the Night.)

Christine Feehan's "Dark" series are a real "snoozer." I don't know how many I can torture my way through. I may have to give up this series and find something else to get me through the time Sherrilyn doesn't have a book out.

Summary: Tall, Dark and Mysterious...Gregori
Review: My first impression was, "Wow, what a `dark', mysterious read." This was the first of CF's Dark series that I read and let me tell you, it was love at first bite. I went back and purchased ALL her Carpathian books and have read all but two. Although there were some annoying repetitive phrases (i.e. molten / liquid mercury eyes), it doesn't depreciate the value of her creative writing in this book. The second intimate scene with Savannah and Gregori (the first being the tender, deep kiss he left her with when he introduced himself to her as her soul mate in her bedroom) is not rape nor justified rape, although it is a violent and aggressive preface to sex vs love making. I've read and re-read that scene several times and never did I read where Savannah, the supposed "victim" accuse to him of raping her. As a matter of fact, she understood his disposition and the sacrifices he made for her (and their people) that literally drove him `mad' and encouraged him during the peak of his `madness' / transformation to hold on to his only hope for life and sanity...her -- thus, saving his existence as the Great Healer of their people who finally needed someone else for healing and salvation. Her unconditional sacrifice (she laid herself down willingly for him) saved him from completely turning vampire by calling him back to her, as only his soul mate could do, regardless of the physical pain she suffered. Afterwards, she merely said that she did not want any more sex if it caused this was what happened when people normally had sex...but she didn't run nor hide from him, neither did she wail about her lost virginity or pain. Over time, she allowed him to make it up to her; showing her the tender and fervent intimacy of two lovers making passionate love.

I won't be redundant and rehash the highlights of story. The interesting details / teasers have already been expressed in many other postings, which are very informative.

Dark Magic is well written and emotionally draws you into its plots, and has you twisting and turning along the dark, eerie Louisiana bayous.

Summary: After all the others...
Review: After reading all the other books in the series I found this book rather boring and repetitive. I admit I didn't read them in any real order except for which I could get my hands on first. I snached up the first three or four books I read but after that I started seeing the same terms and phrases being re-used over again. None of the plots I found incredibly unique since everyone book is the continuation of the last book with the same plot falls and very simular characters.

I find this really disappointing since I love vampire books in general and usually I read them, not caring about the quality but by the time I got to the later books I just couldn't do it.

As for this book individually, I did have great hopes for Gregori but I found him abusive and the way he treated Savannah rather disgusting. Another thing I disliked about the book was the discription of the characters; small wasted, long black hair, immortal beauty. Cliched.

If you're a first time reader of Christine I believe you'll like this book since the idea originally was an unique idea but after multiple book with little to no differations, I found this one deadly boring.

Summary: Christine Feehan Continues to Make Magic With "Dark Magic!"
Review: "Dark Magic" is the fourth book in Christine Feehan's Carpathian series. This novel stands alone and it is not necessary to read the other "Dark" novels to appreciate this one - although I think you will enjoy it more if you do. Carpathians are a unique race of beings, originating in Romania's Carpathian Mountains, who have existed since humans first inhabited the earth. They are definitely not vampires. They are, however, a different race than man, gifted with the ability to change shape, fly, and move faster than the eye can see - and also able to communicate through both telepathy and language. Acquiring sustenance from human and/or animal blood, they do not kill or turn people into vampires. Carpathians mate for life but since the females rarely live to adulthood, and their childrens' mortality rate is high, not many males are able to find a female suitable for a lifemate....or any female at all. The women provide the light to the males' darker side. Afer 200 years Carpathian males lose all human feelings, unless they have a mate. They become destructive, aggressive, predatory and can only rely on their strength of mind to keep from breaking the law. The race is dying out and many males, having lived for centuries without wives, often choose to end their existence or turn rogue, (vampire), in despair.

Gregori, the most powerful and oldest Carpathian male, is a legendary healer. He is about ready to terminate his life when he learns that two good friends, a Carpathian male and a human woman with psychic abilities, are going to have a child. From this moment, Gregori knows the fetus is a female and will be his lifemate. He bonds with her while she is still in the womb. He becomes a wolf, her beloved companion, when she is a little girl, all the while learning about who she is and allowing her to become familiar with his presence - in any form.

As a young woman of eighteen, Savannah Dubrinsky leaves her parents in Romania and moves to the United States to live on her own. Fiercely independent, she tells Gregori she is not ready to mate and needs time to grow as a person. She has never liked the arrogance and possessiveness of Carpathian males. After five years building a career and professional reputation, Savannah is known worldwide as a famous magician, Mistress of Illusion. She is happy with her life as it is. Gregori, however, has reached the end of his limited time. He needs to make Savannah his lifemate immediately if he is to save his soul.

"Dark Magic" is filled with the paranormal, mystery, adventure and romance. However, after reading all four books in the series, I like this one least. Grigori is a much more complex and charismatic figure in the other novels, and comes across as needier and weaker here. There is little in the novel about his healing powers, usually of great interest. Savannah is not as well developed as the author's other female characters. Perhaps this is because she is younger. I also found the plot to be weak. The story is not as original and there is too much repetition of similar events here. If you are a fan of Christine Feehan and the "Dark" books, you will enjoy this one too. It is just not up to par.

Summary: Empowering...
Review: This is the 4th book in the Dark Series by Christine Feehan. Although many books in this particular series can stand on its own, Dark Magic, however, cannot. In order to fully understand Dark Magic, you must read the previous 3 books which are Dark Prince, Dark Desire, and Dark Gold, because Gregori is a very complex character that is extremely well developed which is one of the main reasons that makes this book so great.

This is an overwhelmingly romantic story between the Dark one-Gregori and his lifemate-Savannah-the daughter of the prince Mikhail and Raven. As most of us already know, the male loses their ability to feel after 200 years of living and inevitably become the walking undead-vampires who are ruthless creatures that prey on not only human, but also children and women, unless they are able to find their lifemate who is able to bring light to balance out the darkness within.

Dark Magic tells the tale of Gregori, the dark one-the most powerful one, his power beyond the prince-Mikhail, and Savannah who is born to be his lifemate. Many other dark books, unfortunately, are not romances to me for the relationship between the main characters are unnatural and not well developed. Dark Magic, however, does an excellent job on the love between Gregori and Savannah. I can see the drastic change in Gregori, as he becomes a person with emotion and most of all, love, not what he was for centuries-a stoic stone who has no feelings but only the need to kill. Savannah is truly the light that guides him out of his darkness. I know that many people are disturbed by the raping scene in the beginning, but it wasn't Gregori who did it, it was the beast within him, and even though, he was willing to let Savannah kill him, and gave her a chance to escape. She choose not to let him die, and willingly brings him back to life. As the story develops, so does their love. Their bond is strong, whether physically or emotionally, they are connected as soulmates.

This book is not for everyone, it has many sexual descriptions and violence. But for people who are over the age of 15 or those who are emotionally ready, it is something that should not be missed.

Summary: What a cool book!
Review: This is the first Christine Feehan book I've read, and it is great! I don't want to repeat the story plotlines that were already described here, but if you like an intelligent writing style, really exciting scenes and an intriguing 'other world' to enter into, then get this book! Especially if you like the Lord of the Rings and even the Harry Potter books, this adds a whole new dimension (the romance side.) Borrow it, buy it, do whatever you need to do to read it. :) I'm not at all a romance novel reader, generally preferring the classics and even some of Oprah's picks, but I became a fan instantly. The characters are super, it kept me entertained and engrossed... Some reviewers griped about the whole 'old-fashioned' views held by the hero in the book, but for me, it only added to the sizzle. LOVED IT! Can't wait to read the rest of her books!!! PS: I'm so glad she changed the covers of the books... I have a tough time with those intolerable 'bare-chested Fabios with swooning women' covers that are so typical of romance novels. The current covers are so much cooler!!!

Summary: Best Book So Far!
Review: Okay, I need to admit something first. I am hopelessly addicted to Mrs. Feehan's Dark Series. That being said, I have read up to Dark Challenge (almost finished with it), and so far, Dark Magic has been my all time favorite! The character description of Gregori is almost breathtaking! You can really imagine yourself standing in front of possibly the sexiest Carpathian alive! From reading Dark Prince (the first in the series), I was introduced to Gregori, and I couldn't wait until he found his lifemate. Even in Dark Desire, you were with Gregori as he fought for Savanah's unborn life inside Raven, knowing she was his true lifemate. Mrs. Feehan really captures the details of San Fransisco and New Orleans, and the plot is totally captivating! I would reccomend this to anyone, but only after they've read the first three books in the series. ENJOY!
