Rating: Summary: Last Chance Saloon Review: This is a great beach read... Not my favorite Marian Keyes, but it was still fun reading with some more serious issues. A bit predictable at times, but still worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Reality check -- good job Review: This is my first exposure to Marian Keyes, and if I hadn't been determined to like this fun-looking book, I would never have made it past the first few shallow, unbelievable chapters, and I would have concluded that Keyes is a terrible writer. As it happens, though, I did make it past those chapters, and I'm glad of it now. After floundering in the shallows, the characters pick up real personalities, and you begin to understand why they do some of the truly bizarre things that they do. You also begin to care about them -- and by then you can't stop reading. The story of three smalltown childhood friends living in London seems simple enough, but there are clearly skeletons in everyone's closet. These, of course, shape the characters' strange behaviors, and are progressively revealed -- all except for the big mystery surrounding Katherine, which doesn't come until the very, very end, by which time you are begging Ms. Keyes to please, PLEASE tell you because the book is about to end. Of course, she delivers, and of course, it's good. Also of course, these three friends and everyone around them don't just get drunk, come into work hungover, and sleep with every man on the planet in search of Mr. Right -- meaning that this isn't your stereotypical British "chicklit." (Don't get me wrong -- I loved Bridget Jones. I just didn't like all her copycats.) While there is some of this going on, each friend is quite different, there are real plot lines here, and there is real emotion and tragedy, which serves as a catalyst for the friends to shake things up a bit. The story is fun yet also real, and the ending (for all) is satisfying (yet also real).
Rating: Summary: couldn't put it down! Review: This was the first book I read by Marian Keyes and it was wonderful. Every emotion you could possibly feel comes out when reading this book. I actually had to make myself stop reading so I could read some more the next day. And as I neared the end of it, I tried not to read because I didn't want it to end. Sounds weird but, I felt like I lost my good friends when I finished it. The way Keyes wrote this book makes you feel very close to the characters. I have recommended this book to all of my friends.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book! Review: This was the second book I've read by Marian Keyes, and I couldn't put it down. Each and every character has a unique and interesting story, and the way they come together and support each other through a difficult time is so touching.
Rating: Summary: The Rollercoaster of Life Review: Well, this book started out wonderfully for me. Marian Keyes was flowing like a river. She was tasteful and each character had so much character. The love between these friends (14 years and running) was insatiable. Three women and one man (and his significant other). All was going well, with the ups and downs of life. Each was there for the other and then we were sent a "blow". One of the main characters took gravely ill. This sent me for a loop. I thought this book was supposed to be humor-filled. I cried and even had an anxiety attack during the pre, during and post diagnosis. All-in-all, she is an excellent writer. It was enjoyable and I hated to put it down. However, before reading her others books, I need to find out if she goes into detail regarding illness or the like...........it was just too devastating living through this.....
Rating: Summary: Way Too Much Fun for One Book Review: What can I say - Marian Keyes has done it again. She just keeps getting better. The trials, tribulations, good times and bad times of Tara, Katherine and Fintan - three old friends from Ireland now living in London - keep the reader enthralled page after page. Gentle, loving Tara with her possessive, overbearing miser of a boyfriend - who frankly, you want to slap about the head; ice-queen Katherine in total control of her life - or so it seems; and Fintan the delightful gay friend battling the biggest fight of his life. There are plenty of other characters to keep this book action-packed from beginning to end. I have now read every book Marian Keyes has written and can't bear to think about how long I am going to have to wait for the next one - but you can bet your life, I'll get it hot off the press!
Rating: Summary: Cute Beach Read Review: While this book is a fun read, it has some added benefits--Marian Keyes really knows how to develop characters. Her characters are complex, screwed up, happy and sad in the same breath--basically, they're real. While the plot and the story weren't especially interesting, it's worth reading just to experience Keyes' way of description.
