Summary: Extraordinary read!!!
Review: This book was great, I read it in 1 day. A beautiful love story that had me laughing and crying. I wanted to reach in the book and smack Julie's daughters and Romeo's sons. I highly recommend this book to anyone who hopes that love wins out for the young and old.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: clever and entertaining
Review: For a first novel, I was very impressed. The style is easy and flowing - a cleverly written tale of old and new with a few chuckles thrown in.

Summary: adorable reworking of an old tale
Review: A perfect summer beach read: Romeo and Juliet set in the present day as rival small town florists, and both over 60. It sounds formulaic, but it works surprisingly well. Very entertaining and sweet as pie. Fortunately it has a happier ending than the original!

Summary: There is love and romance after age 50!
Review: Jeanne Ray celebrates the fact that there really is love and romance beyond age 50. I laughed and cried my way through this book. The feelings of the main character, Julie, are so real and truly illustrate how we come to perceive the parts of our lives as we look back. I felt like she was a heroine, fighting for justice in a world that would stop at nothing to keep her from having a life of her own. I love her for showing us how baseless most prejudice is when the roots of it are discovered. I am going to read this book over and over, and I know that I will learn more about myself each time I read it. If you are over the age of 50, be you male or female, you must read this book. You will feel ageless and romantic, I promise you.

Summary: a wonderful summer read
Review: I bought this book to take on a recent trip to France, thinking I would read it while lounging on the beach. Imagine my surprise when I finished it on the flight over! It was very engaging and kept me interested, even when everyone else on the plane was sleeping. Someone mentioned this as a "woman's book"...I passed it on to my husband and he was equally entertained, although he did read it on the beach :-)

Summary: A Quick and Charming Read
Review: I picked this book up at the supermarket after thumbing through it. Being that I am Italian and having lived near Somerville, MA, and the surrounding 'burbs of Boston many moons ago, the characters and locale intrigued me enough to make the purchase. To be honest, had I known the main characters were sexagenarians, I probably would have blown it off as I was more in the mood for a love story involving characters closer to my age, however, I did not realize it until well into the first chapter and even then, I was not deterred. Except for the author's occassional reference to their age, the dialog and chemistry between Julie and Romeo could easily have reflected that of lovers in their 30's/40's, which is nice because it allows the reader to use his/her imagination. I read this one within 24 hours. It's a great summer jaunt!

Summary: This one ought to be a movie! Romance for 60 year olds...
Review: The title of this one led me to expect a contemporary update of the Romeo and Juliet story. But I was surprised to find that Julie Roseman and Romeo Cacciamani, the Romeo and "Juliet" of this book weren't teenagers but sixtyish business owners. Both run rival florist shops in town, and have been predisposed to dislike each other- if for no other reason than the fact that Rosemans and Cacciamanis have always disliked each other (in other words, tradition). And then, one day while she is attending a business seminar, Julie runs into Romeo and, in the author's words:..."there he was, a nice-looking Italian guy sitting right at sixty. He was wearing pressed khaki pants and a white polo shirt with a sprig of chest hair flourishing at the throat. No gold chains. I was so surprised by my utter lack of hostility that I wanted to laugh".... If that excerpt doesn't spark your interest, let me add that this one also has romance (what else would you expect with that title?),a wonderful story, and great writing laced with humor. It moves quickly, with just enough depth and substance to satisfy and just enough suspense to keep you intrigued. I was absolutely charmed by this one and can't wait to read more from the wonderful Jeanne Ray. For many days after I finished the book, I felt as those Romeo and Julie were still (very welcome) houseguests.

Summary: Absolutely delightful!!
Review: Jeanne Ray's JULIE AND ROMEO is a wonderfully funny and charming take on the classic Shakespeare play. Short, but sweet, this is a story not just about love, but about family and friends, acceptance and loyalty. JULIE AND ROMEO is a book that can be enjoyed by readers of any age.

Summary: Anyone who thought love & passion were for the young.......
Review: .......will change their mind after reading this wonderfully funny, delightful gem by first time author Jeanne Ray. Most of us are so conditioned to reading and hearing about love & lust for the 35 and younger hero/heroine that it doesn't even occured to us that love can be breathlessly exciting when the lovers are old enough to order off the senior citizens menu.

This lighthearted tale of divorced Julie Roth and widowed Romeo Cacciamani throws a light on how ardent an intelligent, good looking couple can be at age 60. Their growing love is portrayed by Ms. Ray, with as much depth and excitement as any romance that could be shared by a couple of 30 year olds. They respond to each other with all the hunger they feel and the need their hearts have been empty of for several years while fighting their way through interferring family members who try to keep them apart because of a family feud that has lasted for generations.

This was a truly captivating summer read that I devoured in one setting. I think Jeanne Ray is an author we're going to hear a lot about in the future and I'll be happy to say I was able to buy her first book in it's first printing. Now, if only she'll soon come out with another one!
