Rating: Summary: A disappointment... Review: I enjoyed the first half of this story, but I was frustrated by the second half. I found the reasoning behind the Duke's behavior to be unbelievable and contrived. I also didn't believe that the super-independent heroine, who was raised around horses and stables, knew so little about "where babies come from." I don't care how sheltered you are, if you grow up around livestock, you don't have to have the facts of life explained to you!Quinn is a good writer, but the story's weaknesses were so weak, they really ruined my enjoyment of the book.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: I've read "To Catch a Hairess" and was not impressed much. This book, however, has all the elements I admire. Great couple, marvelous supporting characters, lively conversation... I did not like the ending, but the I can take only so much sweetness and light.
Rating: Summary: Too good to be true Review: I bought this book on the basis of all the five star reviews and all I can say is Ms Quinn must have a lot of friends working over time. Don't get me wrong. It's a pleasant way to pass an afternoon just no big whoop. Lots of dialogue. Lots of cute. Not what I expected after all these raves.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Reading Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the Duke and I. Normally, I don't do this type of thing, but I thought this book was worth it. I am really looking forward to her new book. I was really entertained by the chemistry between Simon and Daphne.
Rating: Summary: Best yet! Review: Wow! I never thought Julia Quinn could top HOW TO MARRY A MARQUIS, and so I bought THE DUKE AND I with high hopes and moderate expectations. I was blown away. The character of Simon is so moving, so complete, so sensual, so achingly real and glorious that I couldn't put the book down. As a writer I do my best to read with an eye for what makes a romance great, but it's impossible to do that with JQ. I get too wrapped up in the story to read for learning. Bravo! I can't wait to read Anthony's (Daphne's older brother) story this fall! :)
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I just finished this book last night and I loved it! I also had a hard time putting it down. There where many funny moments in the book. I loved Simon and Daphne, (I don't want to tell too much) they went through alot of obsticles. But it was well worth it in the end. I never read anything of Julia Quinn until now, and I realized I must have been missing out on alot of good reading. I strongly recommend you buy this book, it's great!
Rating: Summary: Best Book Review: I first saw this book at Julia's Web site and went out that night and bought it along with some of her other titles. When I got home I started to read and the next thing I know it was 4 hours later and I was closing the book. Through out "The Duke and I" I laughed and laughed. This book is delightful and very, very well written. It has funny dialouge and a romantic atmosphere. This is one book I will read over and over.
Rating: Summary: good read.... Review: This one was good.. I picked up her last.. and put it down just as quick... which was disappointing as I had read an earlier book of hers and thought she looked promising.. glad to see that, with this book, she has written a good, quick read, with an interesting plot, and likable characters... this one puts her back on the list of must haves..
Rating: Summary: The best book I have read in ages! (And I read lots!) Review: I read in Romantic Times about Julia Quinn's dilemma with the title of this book: personally, I prefer "Daphne and the Duke." But that's neither here nor there. Take my advice: don't start reading this book unless you have plenty of time to finish. It was agony when I had to leave to go to work when only halfway done. You truly won't want to put it down. This heartwarming tale of an emotionally troubled duke who is entranced and eventually healed by a loving young woman from a delightfully healthy family is a definite keeper. "How To Marry a Marquis" was so good I couldn't imagine a better one, but this one manages the task. Julia Quinn definitely has what it takes to keep a reader enthralled from beginning to end! I'm looking forward to the next one!
Rating: Summary: I love Quinn Review: I have read all of Quinn's books and have enjoyed them all. Somehow she manages to make each one better! I enjoy her strong, clear-headed heroines and the humor in the dialogue. I hate to reach the end of her books. "The Duke and I" is another fun romp that is over too soon. Can't wait for her next book!
