Rating: Summary: Awesome!!! Review: Wow, I tell you what, wow! Fantastic! How come the rating won't go higher than 5 stars?! It deserves at least 10! An abosolutely wonderful book!!! Unique writing style!
Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece! Review: There is nothing more that can be said about this book and the poignant storytelling of Susan Kay. You will never be the same...and you will never love Erik more. It is absolutely the most emotionally stirring book I have ever read! Keep your box of kleenex nearby! For those of you worried about it tarnishing Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical or vice versa, I promise that it only makes it BETTER. Read it!
Rating: Summary: This book will make your Spirit Soar to new heights! Review: This book is comperable to..."Don Juan Triumphant" - Erik's opera...in the sense that it makes you feel EVERY emotion. True Love, Immense Passion, The Heights of Ecstacy, Controlling Hatred, The depths of Sorrow, and a few that I believe there is no name for. This book is, FOR ONCE, centered around the life of Erik, not that of Christine Daae. During this book you'll laugh, cry, smile, frown, Feel boundless Joy, and feel infinite hatred...you might even become a bit discusted at the human race....This book gives you something to think about and will certainly become your favorite...Sit down for this one, because it will have the impact of an atomic bomb.
Rating: Summary: SOOOOO Good, But Then.......... Review: I had to give this book 5 stars, because Susan Kays writing and background research is the best, and the story of Erik just so moving. I was astounded and shocked, heartbroken and exhilarated at every turn. I bought this book as soon as I realized it existed, and I read have read it at least 15 times, but then I decided to compare it with Lerouxs original novel, and became a little dissapointed. Ms. Kay is an excellent writer, and brings Erik's story full circle, but her timeline is a little off. She has certain events happen in her book at different times from when they happened in the original novel, and that changes the storyline dramatically. I know, I know, authors writing a prequel/sequel to books have to change things slightly, but it seems that Ms. Kay is taking liberties in the story, even with the "prequel/sequel change" allowance. Very good, until you do the research.
Rating: Summary: Words cannot describe the power of this book! Review: Phantom is a beautifully moving tale of the life of Erik. I have read this book about 16 times. It is so well written that I feel that I am there seeing the world through the eyes of this scorned genius. The Phantom of the Opera is a story that will always fuel the imagination and leave the reader in a state of weeping bliss.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful, Heart-Warming Story Review: This is the best book I have ever read! It's raw emotions paint a colorful and painful picture about Erik's life. If you only read Gaston Leroux's book you can only get a glipse of that complicated character. But this book gives you much more insight to his tortured mind.
Rating: Summary: Magical, dark, devastating; Phantom will break your heart Review: I first picked up "Phantom" at sixteen; eight years and three copies later, I'm still under its spell. Nothing will prepare you for the story of Erik's life, and nothing will console you when the last page is finally turned. A dark and brilliant novel of an extraordinary man, "Phantom" will never let you go.
Rating: Summary: It's beautifully written Review: This book is an absolute marvel to the English language. It's a very powerful and moving recreation of the story of Erik. The horribly ugly man with a beautiful soul. The only complaint I had about the book was that it's told from many different view points. Every chapter is told from a new characters point of view. I liked this, but the writing style never changed. The only suggestion I would have made to Susan Kay was for her to change her writing style for the different characters. Other than that, it's a joy for any reader.
Rating: Summary: The BEST Phantom book ever!!! Review: I have read many of the Phantom books after seeing the musical and have NEVER seen one that told the Phantom story as perfectly as this one. It's a must for anyone who loves The Phantom of the Opera.
Rating: Summary: BRAVO! BRAVO! Review: I have read this book numerous times since its release and it's a book I will never tire of reading. Susan Kaye gave us a glimpse of Erik's 'human' side, instead of the 'monster' we've known for years. She made it easy for us to feel Erik's pain and the anger he felt because of how people treated him. Most of all, I loved the ending. Erik wasn't just killed.... that's it.... end of story. His legacy lives on. Since reading this book, I have a hard time enjoying the other versions of The Phantom of the Opera. I highly recommend this novel!!!!
