Rating: Summary: it made me cry Review: I waited 10 years to find this book again, and when I did, I read it in two days! A perfect pre-quel to the musical. Unbeleivable background!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read!! Review: This is the most beautiful book I have ever read. After getting it I read it non-stop and thought it was wonderful . I recomend this book to everyone..Phantom Phan or not. I fell in love with Erik. Susan describes him perfectly in this novel. Thank you Susan.
Rating: Summary: This Book has it all ! Review: Phantom was recommended to me by a freind, And how happy I was that I took his advice. The book is especially good because you have no opportunity to become bored with the characters. Susan Kay moves from one character to the other, seamlessly telling the story from their point of view, and how they were all affected by Erik. I must Disagree with many others who have reviewed this book saying that this was a good Romantic Novel, It is much more than that, and to say such a thing would scare away the men from reading such a well done book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: When I started reading this book, from the first couple of pages it pulled me in, and I could barely put the book down. I loved the diffrent points of views, and I love Kay's writing style! She brought the story alive, and keeps it going until the last words of the story. I didn't like the ending too much, but I loved the way she portrayed Erik, and she gave him a whole other side. She seemed to answer questions that Leroux left unanswered, but also opened a few more. But all in all I loved this book!
Rating: Summary: "No one can choose where we will love..." Review: One of the most heart-wrenching,tear-jerking tales I have ever read. One cannot possibly classify this book. It is in a realm of emotion all its own
Rating: Summary: The MOST romantic book that I have ever read! Review: This book evoked so much emotion in me and I rate it along with some of the most famous romantic movies. Susan Kay was able make me feel what the characters were feeling, with such ease. I cried when the book was finished - I just didn't want it to end. Having seen the The Phantom of the Opera, and hearing Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, made the book that much more real, as I was able to feel and imagine so much more vividly, this beautiful story. The book encompasses his life, from birth to death and it brings him to life and shows the beautiful person he was. I recommend this book whenever I can, and I thought it interesting that it was strongly recommended to myself by a man.
Rating: Summary: Phantom is an enchanting, and incredible book Review: Susan Kay grabs readers with her profound style of writing. There are many other books that tells the story of the Phantom of the Opera, but Susan Kay truly tells an enchanting tale. Imagine being given a mask to wear, and never being allowed to see the light outside your own domain.Erik is an genius, in more ways than one. His intellect and music ability were astonishing, and at the same time frightning. At the age of 12, he was already creating works of great musical capacity. As he continues through his jouney to find where he belongs, he ends up in the theatre. He meets the beautiful Christine, and enchants her with his musical talents. If you're interested in romance and action, then this is your book. This book is one of my favorite books. It dazzled me and made me laugh and cry at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Erik is my hero!! Review: You've probably read the other reviews, so you don't need me to repeat how FANTASTICALLY AWSOME this book is, but I just have to anyway. I read this book when I was younger and I have to admit that it became like my bible. I would fantasize endlessly about being Erik's only friend and confidante at various stages of his life. Such a rich book, and the characters are superb. As a Canadian/American who has travelled to Europe, I also think that the book really gives you the flavor of Europe (and Persia!) I have never been so emotionally involved with any book or fictious character in my life. I own the hardcover (to look at, keep, and admire) and a paperback (the one that gets read again and again.) I'm thrilled to see it's been reprinted.
Rating: Summary: How a phantom is made Review: I have read this book many times and every time returned to the first part, the one told by Erik's mother. It is a very good lesson in how to make sure one makes a child into a future 'monster'. The ending is good too, with Raoul telling how it all ended. To me this is the standard along with Leroux' original novel.
Rating: Summary: A heart breaking tale Review: Phantom is my second favorite book I have read. This is a wonderful book for Phantoms phans to read, even just someone who wants to read a wonderfully haunting, touching tale. This book had me crying many times. It also helps a phan to get an idea of what Erik's life would have been like previous to the whole love triangle between Christine and Raoul.
