Summary: Long Live Erik!!!
Review: This book is so sad. I cried almost every 5 pages. I can't believe that people actually are treated that way. I love the Persian for bringing Erik into his home.

Summary: I found it again!
Review: I read this book several years ago and then lost my copy. All I could remember was the name. Now I've found it again here. This was one of the most amazing books I've every read and I am a prolific reader. It is intense. It is disturbing. It is horrifying. It made me cry because of the depth of emotion. Both good and bad. I, too, swore I wouldn't finish it and yet I couldn't put it down. I'm buying another copy and I'm not losing this one!

Summary: The Phantom of the Opera pastiche to end all others
Review: Take one tragic hero, one pretty girl, add the fairytale, expand it, and you have Susan Kay's "Phantom." Kay has taken the original story of The Phantom of the Opera, about a deformed genius and the beautiful singer he loves, and adds to it to answer all the questions the original classic leaves behind. These questions range from how the Phantom became deformed to who is the mysterious "Persian" and what is his relation to the Phantom? The most interesting aspect of Kay's tale is her ingenius use of point of view. The reader is treated to six different insights into the Phantom's character, divided up into sections. This style, odd though it seems, gives the reader just the right impression that other writers have failed miserably at. This book is a must for any bibliophile who enjoys the timeless love story or anyone wishing to study character development or point of view in contemporary literature!

Summary: Reviewing the fantastic novel "Phantom" by Susan Kay
Review: With the immense popularity of the "Phantom of the Opera" musical, the "Phantom" Erik must be by now the most widely known fictional ghost of the century.

But do we really know Erik?

Even the most avid "Phantom" fan would not "know" who Erik was. Who was his mother? Where was he born? Did he ever love anyone before he met Christine? Who is the Persian? The list of questions could go on and on, and we would never know the answers...

Until now...

SUSAN KAY's novel, "PHANTOM" answers ALL of these questions, making this novel a MUST for both phantom fans and those who don't know the story of the "Opera Ghost".

With her carefully researched book and Kay's perceptive insight, Kay brings Erik's story to life, presenting a complex, believable biography of Erik through various characters such as his mother Madeleine, and the Persian - people who had been touched, enlightened, hurt or destroyed by Erik's presence within the aspects of their lives.

The novel also presents Erik's own views - about the tragedies contained within the original Leroux novel, and before he became the "Opera Ghost" - thus serving both as a prequel and a sequel, enabling us to understand the mind of this strange, intellegent genius and Angel of Music.

What stunned me was the extent Kay must have put into her research for this novel - which must have been huge. Every small aspect of Erik's life is included with as much real life detail as possible - and because of this, I believe most people, after reading this novel, are decieved into believing that the Phantom really did exist!

Be prepared for a twist at the end of this fantastic, engrossing read - you'll be surprised!!

Summary: lovers of Phantom of the Opera, this is a must read
Review: For anyone who ever wanted more from any version of The Phantom of the Opera, this book is a must read
Phantom fills in all the missing pieces that other versions of the story leave to the imagination
Not only does it fill in the blanks, but it does so with the ease of someone who studied the original story with great care
Kay manages to capture the beauty and tragedy of the phantom erik, and not even the most hardened critic could find fault with the dimensions she adds to the story of the phantom of the opera
It's a wonderful book

Summary: Erik, one who is hated, admired and loved.
Review: As a writer, Susan Kay wrote the book Phantom and made it into a story that pulled me pass the words, pass the pages and took me back through the Ninteenth Century. I shared the emotions, pains and thoughts with all the characters and it made me be a part of the story that I couldn't walk away from. The story is so beautiful and so intriguing, it's a "must read" book and I recommend it to anyone. No matter what style you prefer: fiction, horror, mystery, romance, this book has it all. I've come across many books that caught my attention, but nothing can come close to the book Phantom.

Rating: 5 stars

Review: I have been crazy about the Phantom since 1995.I went to see the musical and can play All the songs on the piano. Then came Kay's book,Phantom.I simply COULDN'T put it down for a second!I finished four hours after I got it. I recoiled from disgust at certain passages in the book and swore I'd never read it again.Three seconds later,I was at it again. Many parts were enjoyable,Erik certianly had a sense of humour. I give this book the highest marks.
