Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put it Down! Review: Lord of Scoundrels - what an incredible book! My introduction to the wonderful Ms Chase was thru a novella called 'The Mad Earl'. I have scavenged around to find as many of her novels as possible (hard to do in Perth). I have just found Lord of Scoundrels - started reading at about 8pm and finished at 3am. The evolving of the characters was just magic - the emotion that this author generates is incredible - its almost like you are in their shoes. Jessica and Dain touched my heart. You are the best Ms Chase!

Rating: Summary: Vastly entertaining - A great read from the beginning pages Review: What a fun book! This is one book I hesitated reading because of its outlandish name and book cover. I came across an interesting review on AAR's website and decided I could not resist.Lord Dain, the hero, is known in Paris as Lord of Scoundrels for the wild group of rogues he is leading down the road to complete debauchery. Bertie Trent is a young man from England who longs to follow Lord Dain's example and is getting himself in to a lot of trouble doing so. Jessica Trent, the heroine, is Bertie's protective sister. She comes to Paris to have a show down with Lord Dain and convince him to desist in luring her brother further down this dissolute path. It seems that many of the books I review that have the highest ratings are those that are your non-typical romance. This one certainly falls into that category. Nearly everything about this book is distinctive and engaging. To begin with, half of this book takes place in Paris. Our hero is not supposed to be good looking (although I think he was the only one who thought that once he had matured). He is such an unfeeling devil that you wonder if he will be capable of changing enough to live up to the status of a romance hero. The heroine is very likable but very strong and is not a prude at all although she is a 25-year-old virgin. Lord Dain has definitely met his match when it comes to doing battle with Jessica. He ruthlessly places Jessica in a highly compromising position and leaves her in the middle of it. She exacts her revenge in such a manner that your mouth is standing open with shock as you read it. It's great! Lord of Scoundrels is full of subtle humor. All of a sudden you find yourself laughing when you least expected it. Jessica truly believes that Lord Dain is very sensitive and emotional and either tells him that or refers to these traits of his from time to time. Any time she does, Lord Dain's response is so hilarious. He does not see himself this way at all and certainly doesn't want to be categorized as such. It is really a good bit of writing. Lord Dain and Jessica have a lot of stimulating conversation and interaction. There are no big misunderstandings or lies to hide. The action rolls along throughout the book at a quick pace. The sensual scenes rate a solid 4.0 out of 5.0 ... Although none of these scenes occur during the first half of the book, they are not missed and certainly make up for lost time once they do occur. Also, this book rates high because it gives the leads' relationship ample time to develop and we get to experience that development. This was my first Chase book and it is one I will keep to read again. I look forward to reading more of her writing. Lord of Scoundrels is first in a series with The Last Hellion as its sequel.
Rating: Summary: I have to agree... this book is a MUST have!!!!! Review: This book has already a lot of good reviews, so I will keep mine short. But I still feel I have to bring my contribution here... Particularly if I can convince some scepticals out there. I have read many many romances in the last 5 years (I cannot keep count). And all I can tell is that "Lord of scoundrels" surpasses every Regency I ever came across. This book is a fabulous sensitive story between two compelling characters that you might not want to miss. And even if you are a contemporary romance fan... just give this book a try... you might be surprised. Very well done Mrs Chase!
Rating: Summary: It started out so promising until anti-climactic ending. Review: I had such sympathy for Dain's character and loved Jessica's witty, intelligent personality. Throughout their "courtship", I felt Dain's pain/conflict and Jessica's attraction very thoroughly. I could barely put the book down. I figured with the build up of their differences, and with Dain fighting his emotions, the ending would be great. Unfortunately, Dain dealt with his horrible childhood through acceptance of his son (hence, the returned use of his arm and "climax" of the book), but I would have hoped the climax would have involved Jessica - not his lost child. It's a romance novel, and I wanted a more emotional if not exciting ending for the couple. Not for Dain to tell Jess that he loved her almost matter-of-factly. As I read the book, I couldn't wait to see how it ended, but was very disappointed. It was a good read, that could have been a best-selling, great read if the ending had been different. *sigh*
Rating: Summary: Great Read! Review: From the opening page, the reader sinks into Loretta Chase's writing style -- it is comfortable yet sophisticated. The characters are well-defined and intriguing from the beginning to the end. I liked the female main character because she is 27, an antique dealer, and a take-charge person upon whom others rely to "fix things" -- and, when she fixes things, she doesn't waste time with just the clever little retort -- she analyzes, plans, and makes her strategic move. The male main character is vicious, which makes you "itch" to see her take him down. Interestingly, the depth of the characters continues to be revealed right through to the end. The first half of the book contains numerous titilation scenes laced with intrigue and obstacles, with the interesting and explicit sex scenes (without the vulgar slang terms for body parts) occurring in the second half. Some of the characters in this book show up again in THE LAST HELLION. I have read other Loretta Chase books and keep returning to her, even purchasing out-of-print books at higher prices...coming from a person who detests reading used books...you KNOW she must be good.
Rating: Summary: An Adorable Romance! Review: I loved this novel because the hero & heroine weren't your run-of-the-mill romance novel cliches. Jessica (the heroine) may be a beautiful virgin like other romance novel heroines, but that's where the similarity ends. She's a virgin, but she's not the clingy, helpless, stupid type that pepper so many novels in this genre. She's clever and isn't afraid to say exactly what's on her mind to Dain. She's a lady, but she's a lady with some spice---in other words, someone Dain can't resist. I love Loretta Chase's portrayal of Dain. He's not fairy-tale handsome, although he's 100% man. I love his vulnerabilities, which he tries to hide from the world. From the get-go, readers know he's smitten with Jessica even if he won't admit it to himself. Chase is a genius when it comes to convincing readers that the hero has fallen in love with Jessica despite his words to the contrary. This is a unique romance that never gets boring. You'll love it!
Rating: Summary: Okay, but not great! Review: I have to say that I was quite disappointed with this book. It has gotten so many rave reviews and personally I just didn't care for it too much. The characters were annoying. Enough about Dain's nose already! And the story dragged on and on and on (something I don't intend to do here). Without giving away any spoilers, I also didn't buy the nice, tidy ending. This book is the first that I have read by this author and while I see wonderful writing and style I never came to like these characters.
Rating: Summary: Sparkling dialogue, witty and unique characters! Review: This book is a real wonder among romance novels with witty and unique romantic characters that are truly unmatched in other books. The wonderful dialogue is a real tribute to Ms. Chase's abilities as a real author, not the formulaic driven nonsense that the romance publishers so often peddle. I have re-read this book many times, and its always a real pleasure.
