Summary: Amazing!!!
Review: I grabbed this book, on impulse, just to have SOMETHING to read on my recent trip to Europe. Boy, am I glad I did. This is the best book I have read in a looooooooooooong time. Jessica is not intimidated by Dain, and not swayed by his low opinion of himself, although the boy did try his best to send her off. I loved her toughness and her tenderness, she is as close to a perfect heroine as one can get. The other reviewers are right, the dialogue is hell of witty and funny, and I love how after all is said and done, she still calls him Beelzebub. They do appear in The Last Hellion, and Jess is still as sharp as ever.

Summary: I've found another new favourite author - Loretta Chase!
Review: Get past the hoaky cover of LORD OF SCOUNDRELS and what a romp! What fun!! Jessica and Dain have such magnetism and chemistry. She falls in lust with him the minute she meets him and he whispers sweet Italian nothings in her ear soon thereafter! What a miserable childhood Dain had. No wonder the two of them had all those misundertandings. Using a 20th Century phrase: he really did need to "heal his inner child." Chase writes very well - I laughed out loud in sections and chuckled and smiled through numerous others. Their names for each other - Lord Beelzebub, Demon spawn - were great! Lines like: "He was a monster but he was MY monster" - loved 'em! The ending was a stroke of genius, pulling all loose ends together. This book was an 10+!! I enjoyed every minute of it.

Summary: Perfect
Review: Loretta Chase just answered my prayers for the perfect heroine. Someone who does not lie, does not deceive. Pure honesty. I love the way Jess faced every crises, especially the taming of the "He-Shrew." That's how I call Dain. He is the most impossible of all heroes I've come across in my 15 years of reading romance books. But with good reason. He was not hopeless. Jess was perfect for him and she really pulled it off! Amazing. Brilliant writing Miss Chase. I have to admit her use of words (in some instances) profoundly perplexed me. For a while I thought I have been reduced to the mentality of Bertie, Jess not so brilliant brother. The urge to scratch my head was strong. But that was the funny part. The dialogues were just fun, witty. I brought the book to work and it was not easy keeping my laughters to myself. In my head, I was rolling, squealing on the floor. Lastly, I like how the problems were resolved. Miss Chase really threw me off. Just when I thought, uh-oh, here it comes, the classic misunderstandings that leads to silent wars (most authors seem to be fond of these scenarios--they think it is the best conflict in every story.) But oh no, not in Loretta Chase's book. Find out. I was smiling from start to finish. A book worth reading, and re-reading and re-reading...

Summary: A mouthwatering treasure
Review: Finally a romantic novel that manages to keep up the heat for more than 300 pages, and does not end on the wedding night. The fact that Jessica grew up with ten male relatives, probably makes her the only woman able to see through lord Dains pretences. Highly recommended !

Summary: Funny, intense interpetation of Beauty and the Beast theme
Review: First off, I've always wonder how on earth those rake heroes that -ahem- have Active Personal Lives [there is a very sad but funny scene in the prologue about Dain's first sexual encounter -- aged thirteen] manage to avoid syphillis or herpes. Dain definitely qualifies. He refers to himself, mentally and to the heroine, as a "whoremonger" and "debauchee". Well, he is. Fortunately Chase manages to pull it off.

Part of the reason why she /does/ pull it off is that she makes it quite clear WHY Dain is doing it. Dain really does not like himself, and doesn't expect anyone else to like him, which makes his reaction to Jessica Trent's reaction to HIM very believable. Dain looks at himself and sees an ugly, half-Italian overlarge monster. Jessica looks at him and goes practically bonkers with lust. It's hysterical. [Dain: AAHH! Why do you WANT me? I'm ugly! I'm nasty! I could crush you with one hand! Jess: Because you're gorgeous, that's why! (! or, as she says, "Really, Dain, I cannot think where you get these addled ideas.")]

A funny, sexy, sweet interpetation of the Beauty and the Beast theme. Definitely a must-read.

But I still want to know how he managed to avoid any STDs.

Summary: A must-read!!
Review: This book was one of the best I have read in recent years. I was particularly impressed with the verbal swordplay and the dialogue was excellent!!

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyable!
Review: Like the other reviewers, I found this among the best of the best - well written, fast paced, intriguing characters. It was so good, I almost literally could not put it down - I made the mistake of taking it to work to read over lunch...2hours later, I realized I really needed to get back to work. Those that enjoy Loretta may also want to check out Jayne Anne Krentz, aka Amanda Quick - similarily good reading in my opinion!

Summary: This is best romance I have EVER read!
Review: Lord of Scoundrels is the best romance, historical or otherwise, that I have ever read. The plot was unique and well paced, the characters compelling with their roles oddly reversed (the coolheaded analytical bluestocking and the passionate, confused hero), the dialog was exceptional. I was riveted until the last page. If you like romance this book is a MUST. Note to Loretta Chase: I am desperately, impatiently awaiting your next masterpiece!

Summary: The best romance novel of the year
Review: After reading so many of the boring, badly written romance novels that have been published in recent years, I was unprepared for such a magical, refreshing experience. The characters are uniquely funny, sexy and intelligent. Loretta Chase has given this work a tenderness and sensitivity that will touch every reader's heart, but she also writes with a wicked sense of amusement and lively energy. I could go on, but trust me--if you like romance, you must own this treasure

Summary: One Wrong-thinking Man...One Right-thinking Woman
Review: Born ugly, called the spawn of satan by his own father...Sebastien sees himself as a self-fulfilling prophecy....one ugly man. How is he to know that time has transformed him into a startling, sexy, man. Bring a practical minded female, Jess is thrown for a loop when this half-italian stallion crosses her path. Suddenly thoughts of lust fill her mind, and, as the story unfolds, frustration, as the man of her dreams turns out to be quite beastly in nature. Through fist fights, a bastard child's rescue, and the love two people accidentally find with each other..This is a book well worth keeping, I, myself, own four copies.
