Summary: A book I love to read over and over.
Review: This book by Virginia Henley is one of my favorites. She writes it with so much knowledge of the past and with so much storytelling expertise that it is worth reading over and over. Especially when she goes back in time. It was done with such amazing speed that you did not know what happened until you read more and more. When you get to the last page you are so happy for them especially Mark or shall I say Marcus.

Summary: Quite diffrent!
Review: I just finished reading this book and this was my first book by the author.
I liked her style of writing, though I found some of her dialouges unintentionally funny. I liked the eroticism in this book, but guess I wanted it to be more detailed. Apart from the first few love scenes, the rest seemed to be terribly rushed and brief.
I liked the way in which Marcus's character was developed, though not much detail was given to Mark, because of which I didn't really appreciate the last part of the book.
All in all, it was a pretty good read.

Summary: Hot & steamy!
Review: This is a unique, well written book that catapults you along with the heroine into Roman times. This is a steamy romance novel that will keep you in its embrace until the last page is turned. Then it leaves you aching for more. I have read many of Virginia Henley's novels and this is, by far, my favorite.

Summary: My alltime favorite Henley book
Review: What can I say??? Where the hell do I get me one of them gladiators!! This is my fave book. The plot obviously fictional, was a great idea. The characters were tempered just right. And the intimate scenes were erotic and heady. My husband wants me to read this one more often......

Summary: Wow! Wow! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I wasn't sure I would like this book when I read the back summary, but since it was Virginia Henley and I am a avid fan, of course I proceeded. This book was the perfect read for vacation reading for pure enjoyment and escape. I could actually see Marcus, the Roman General in all his physical splendor. In fact I shivered. The story itself was fascinating and I loved that Diana was in a place and time where the human body was beautiful and honored without being pornographic, not to mention that she could be the sexual person that she was. I read this book in one day and was disappointed that it had to end----maybe I will be greatly surprised with this one being the first of a series!!!

I will always be looking for the next book from this author, in fact I am looking for all the ones I haven't read!

Summary: pornography for women
Review: I think this book is terrific. Never mind that the plot is ludicrous, the male romantic lead(s) completely unbelievable and the character of the female lead is, to quote another reader, like wet kleenex. The plot is merely provided to give a frame to the sex scenes, and as pornography for women, it works admirably. It has sensationalism on many levels (but my favorite is where the heroine is stabbed in the heart by the hero when otherwise she'll die a horrible, pain-filled death - don't worry. I'm not giving the plot away!), and kinky sex (a good scene: the heroine is forced by the hero to parade around bare-breasted in front of the servants). I want to run out and buy some more books by this ultra-feminist author. Brava Ms. Henley!

Summary: Sexy, steamy and sweet
Review: I thought this was one of the best books I have ever read. It was fanciful and heart touching. Virginia is a wonderful writer and has a firm grip on passion (or at least what it should be.) Marcus and Mark made my heart sigh with their handsome good looks. I have always gone for the tall, dark and hansome, and these also had a wealth of passion to share with the woman they loved, it also seems they were also generously blessed with well... ya know... (Now isn't that fiction!) Our heroine is an idependant minded, strong-willled woman. She feels stifled in the strictures of society and yearns for freedom, she also yearns for a real man to have and to hold, not the prissy men of her time. We are transported back to an ancient England that is controlled by Romans. Diana becomes enslaved in more ways than one by Centurion Marcus Magnus. Diana becomes the apt pupil as Marcus teaches her about wild passion and tender love. A cruel twist of fate wrenches her from her beloved and she is back in her modern England where she must face not only the scandal of her disapperance but her money grubbing relatives. Mark, the brother of her fiancee and reincarnate of her beloved, teaches the heart broken more than she ever thought to know about love, life and the joy of good sex. In the end, Diana not only finds her freedom from her relatives and society, but from the chains of her lonely heart. Virginia Henley is one of my favorite authors and I have enjoyed this book most of all. She has a way with words that is both touching and witty. This book will make you laugh and sigh and perhaps even blush. You are enamored (and perhaps slightly jealous) with both our hero and heroine and you feel no sympathy towards the villian when he is ultimately defeated. The only word that can describe this book is vivid. Virginia has not only mastered passion, romance, tenderness and love in a book she has captured a braod range of emotions that you not only picture in your mind but feel in your heart. This book is a must read for those jaded individuals who think they have read it all. I have read hundreds of romance novels, and sometimes they all seem to run together. However this book stansd out among the rest!

Summary: very historical
Review: I have read three of Mrs. Henleys books and every one of them makes me research the time period. in this book Marcus is so strong and Dianna ia not a wimpy heroine. I found this book to be exciting , romantic and well written.

Summary: The Best Yet!
Review: This is only the 2nd Virginia Henley Book I've read so far and I loved it. I could not put it down once I started it. The History is facinating, the sex is HOT, HOT,HOT and the Characters are well defined and you love or hate them immediately. Also, I loved the suspense and the surprises. If this is any indications of the rest of her books I can not wait to start reading.
