Rating: Summary: The Duke Review: I have tried several times to read this book. It is so boring it almost made me cry. One day I made the mistake of being away from home and it was my only recourse. "God help me."
Rating: Summary: A major disappointment Review: This was my first Galen Foley, purchased based on the overwhelming number of 5 star ratings. This was also my last Galen Foley. I can only speculate that the other reviewers have never read Georgette Heyer, Amanda Quick or one of a number of other authors who write more engagingly, humorously and/or with more historical accuracy. The overall story line (poor girl forced into poverty, then 'prostitution'; man seeking to avenge the death of the women he loved) had significant possibilities, but the execution was flat. I skimmed the 2nd half, just to see how it ended.
Rating: Summary: READ THIS ONE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! Review: Absolutely one of the best books ever in the Historical Romance Market, without a doubt. I won't get into the story, I'll only say that the plot is great, the characters unforgettable, well described, beautifully written. I won't mind reading it again and again! Be sure to follow it, by LORD OF FIRE and then LORD OF ICE, the Duke's twins brothers. Hey, Miss Foley when are you going to write about the brother who's abroad Joe(sounded like he's a spy!) and the sister and the shady character from the slumps of London and its underworld (looked like he was in undercover work)from LORD OF ICE, Eh?! All these three books are great and five stars winners all! Do not miss them!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Gaelen Foley is an excellent writer. Her characters are well developed and she creates a great Alpha male. She is definetely my favorite author and you can tell by the way that she writes that she really takes pride in her work and just doesn't turn out a lot books for pure profit.
Rating: Summary: A great beginning to a promising series! Review: Stuffy, proper, powerful and lonely Robert Knight, Duke of Hawkscliffe walks into new world the night he meets Belinda Hamilton the newest rising star in the courtesan orbit. Ordinarily, Robert wouldn't be caught dead in such disreputable company, but he is on a mission to avenge the death of a lady he adored, but never touched as she was another man's wife. He plans to use Bel Hamilton to get at Dolph Breckingridge - the man he thinks is responsible for Lucy's death.Nor would Bel, under normal circumstances, be in such company let alone be a courtesan. She is a gently born young lady who, unfortunately caught the eye of Dolph but refused him. He becomes obsessed with her to the point of ruining her life, foolishly thinking she will come crawling to him for help. He has her father thrown into debtors prison, he has her fired from her job at a young ladies academy. Bel still refuses Dolph even to the point of selling oranges on the street. She is in dire straits when the utimate horror befalls her. Determined to pull herself and her life together she decides that the life of a courtesan could be profitable - especially since she now has nothing else to lose. She could get lucky and choose a protector who will be kind to her and look out for her. And so she meets Hawkscliffe. He wins a kiss from her in a card game and there is an immediate, electric connection. She could not hope for a better protector. His reputation is sterling and when he asks her to help him trap Dolph by pretending to be his mistress it's even better - she can get her revenge and won't have to share his bed. But they are drawn to each other almost immediately and ultimately cannot keep their hands off each other. Love and trust follow, but what kind of future can the sainted "Paragon Duke" and scandalous "La Belle Hamilton" have? Bel displays such inner strength and at the same time vulnerability you want to cry! When she tells Robert that "everyone fails her" you just tear up. But this woman had more strength of will and character than Robert and her father combined. A true survivor who finds her prince charming. A wonderful read. I really crave a book about black sheep Lord Jack! He sounds soooo intriguing. Loved Damien and Lucien's stories and am eagerly awaiting Jacinda's adventures into Society. Gaelen Foley is a must-read!
Rating: Summary: Ms Foley serves up another excellent book Review: After reading Ms. Foley's Ascencion trilogy, I immediately ordered the rest of her backlist. She's extremely talented and it shows in her imaginative and refreshing love stories. Belinda Hamilton has been dealt a cruel blow by fate. She has captured the unwelcome attentions of Dolph Breckinridge, an obnoxious noble who's become obsessed with her. Angered by her denials he goes so far as to get her fired from her position at a respectable Academy and getting her old, silly father thrown in debtor's prison thinking she will be driven to him by desperation. Belinda refuses to give up and moves to London to be near her father, she survives by selling oranges and mending shirts. One fateful evening she's attacked and raped. Believing herself ruined beyond redemption Belinda decides to become a courtesan. She quicly becomes London's most famous and sought after member of the demimonde. Robert Knight, Duke of Hawkscliffe, has been dubbed the Paragon Duke by society. Robert is obsessed with propriety and morals and keeping himself and his family scandal free. The fact that his mother was known as the Hawkscliffe Harlot is what drives Robert to grow up to become a man of unassailable moral character. How then does this stuffed shirt end up taking London's notorious La Belle Hamilton as his mistress? Well, he's attracted to her of course. However, the real reason behind the liaison is that Robert was secretly in love with a married woman who was found dead. He suspects foul play and the main suspect is Dolph Breckinridge who happens to be the author of Belinda's miseries. This relationship, supposedly platonic, born out of a need for revenge will turn into an intense, sensual, loving one. I personally think the Ascencion trilogy is Foley's best. This is also a great story although it probably isn't the most accurate or the most well paced but it is delicious and entertaining nonetheless. :)
Rating: Summary: Lush, rich romance Review: This novel is a robust, thoroughly engaging romance that kept me up late into the night. A few quibbles: The story could have benefited from a little more editing since the pacing of the story seemed off to me. The main characters express their love long before the end of the story and there is an excess of lovemaking which reduces the tension between the characters. The hero, Robert, struggles between honor and heart, taking an awfully long time to make the right choice.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I have read (and re-read, and re-read...) this novel and still turn back to it regularly. The characters have depth, the emotion and passion are palpable, the love scenes erotic, passionate and enthralling. A definate keeper!
Rating: Summary: Amazing!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite author!!!! Review: I can't believe how amazing Gaelen Foley have written this book! The first time I picked up this book to read the back of what this is about, I had to get the book right away! And I had also read the book 4 times!!!!! It is so romantic (not in a disgustingly, pathetic romantic way) and absolutely funny! Really made me laugh! I love the characters. Belinda and Robert are both hilarious and romantic. I love that Gaelen always keep us in suspence and not making the bad scenes going on forever and forever. She is always creating new suspense one after another. Unlike other writers, they just keep the story on one problem, and misunderstandings etc. on and on for so long, and you get sick of reading the book before the whole thing is solved. But not Gaelen!!! You just want to keep reading the book until it is done once you've started. This is her first book that I have read, it was so good, I had to read all her other books. Buy a copy!!! You will not be disapppointed!!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK! Review: I have not been this excited about a romance author or novel for that matter, in a long time. This book was really great. I have already ordered more of Gaelen Foley's books. If you want a romantic fairy tale, this is the book to read!
