Summary: Absolute Fabulous Read - Couldn't put it down
Review: This was the first book I've red by Ms Foley and I found it to be very unique and captivating. I couldn't put it down. Both characters were very strong and the romance aspect of it is beyond a 5, I can't wait to go back and read more from her.

Summary: Can't wait to read more of her books.
Review: Gaelen Foley is a wonderful author. This is the first of her books that I have read and I will definitly read others. She reminds me of my favorite authors Kathleen Woodiwiss and Stephanie Laurens. I wish more authors wrote like this. Robert is a man driven by his preceived love of a murdered women to find her killer. He has always tried to fulfill the obligations of being the head of the family, and not creating a scandal like his mother. Belinda has also tried to live an honorable and scandal free life. However circumatances force her to a life of a mistress. Robert finds out that the man is suspects of killing the women he loved is obessed with Belinda. He sets out to claim her as his own. They fall in love, but Robert overly pious views (driven in part by his scandalous mother) drive them apart. This book has some very sad scenes, but some wonderfully romantic scenes as well.

Summary: The Duke Needs An Education
Review: There was an era when historical romance novelists (who write essentially 20th/21st century stories with 20th/21st century characters and set them back in a lavish period in history to delight mainly working class/lower middle class women)really tried not to slip into modern speech or produce glaring historical period errors in clothes and decor. The rationale was that despite the modern ethical structure of these fairytales, at least there would a pretense of period language and detail.

This, despite heavy handed claims of much research and editing by the romance industry, is simply no longer true.

"The Duke" is a perfect example of this lazy method of storytelling. It's riddled with "research" errors and a comedy of really terrible period dialect. One need look no further than the moment when the Duke himself watches his beloved move about a social gathering and observes that she "working the party".

Makes one cringe does it not? Certainly it makes one yearn for the long gone days of Heyer.

Summary: Wow! Gaelen Foley is my new favorite writer!
Review: Having read romance for over a year now, I thought that I had found all the good authors, but I was excited when a friend recently suggested THE DUKE by Gaelen Foley. The only word I can think of to describe it is "Wow." It is so much better but I am a reader not a writer. I'll leave the writing to Ms. Foley who is truly magnificent. I felt the emotions of the characters and laughed and cried right along with them. What a gut-wrenching experience. I just have to go and find her other books now and pre-order the next two books due out next year. I am so happy that I found this author.

Summary: An excellent read!
Review: A lot of readers are apprehensive of romance novels. They are fearful of the typical plotlines, characters, and outcomes. The novels of Ms. Gaelen Foley seek to break through that stereotype. No need to get past that silliness seemingly inherent in all romance novels, Ms. Foley skips to the chase... truly one of the best romance novelists (aside from the obvious - Diana Gabaldon) on the market today.

You will find the main characters, Belinda - "Bel" and Hawkscliffe - "Hawk", endearing, intelligent and witty. Ms. Foley does an excellent job of making these characters come to life on her pages. There are tear-jerking scenes, and scenes you'll find yourself grinning or laughing aloud. Don't be alarmed if you find yourself thinking about these two long after you've turned out the lights for the night.

For those who love this book as much as I did, you will find yourself anxiously awaiting the accompanying novels about Hawkscliffe's twin brothers (due approx. Jan 2002). It is my hope that we will find more of Bel and Hawk in these upcoming pages.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Summary: Well done!
Review: I loved it, a "Regency" that's historically accurate. By no means am I an authority, if there were any error's I missed them. I particularly enjoyed the way London is brought to life.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This book was excellent. Some of the sexual scenes were a little more detailed than I like, but the author justified them through the heroine. It was hard to put down.

Summary: A wonderful, beautiful romance!
Review: I've read many romance novels, but I wanted something that was a little more exciting, although still staying within the whole historical English regency setting which I enjoy so much. This book was the best thing I've come across for a long time. My favorite romance author is Judith McNaught, but waiting anxiously for her new books left me looking for other comparable authors. Foley is amazing! She is extrememely descriptive in her prose and the characters are likeable and heroic. A lot of graphic, sensual scenes too I might add, which is a lot spicier than most. This book is the first in a new series about a bunch of brothers and half-brothers, all whom are handsome and fine. A definite must read!!! I can't wait for her other books on the Georgianna Lineage to come out!

Summary: Amazing
Review: After poverty and rape leave Belinda Hamilton with no choice but the life of a courtesan, she is determined to choose her own protector. However, the man who makes her heart beat faster is the Duke of Hawkscliffe, a paragon of society. However, he can see she is what his own enemy desires and offers her protection in exchange for her help. However a growing desire and regard for each other cannot be denied and soon Hawk must make a choice of his own. Love or respectabilty?

Gaelen Foley took a gamble writing this uncommon love story and wow, did it pay off! Bel and Hawk have an amazing love story and both go through REAL changes before they can resolve their problems. Hawk is a decent man with shortcomings. Bel is a woman who lost her choices, but not her dignity. An amazing novel.

Summary: Didn't I read this story before....?
Review: If I didn't know this was by an author that I've never read before, I could swear I've read this book before. Thin plot? You bet. This one's been done over and over, from Cinderella on. The only saving grace is that the characters are well developed. Other than that, I skipped major pages and didn't miss a thing. Do yourself a favor. If you want to try this one, buy it used. It's been done.
