Rating: Summary: What a waste ! Review: Judith Mc Naught has this amazing ability to write about strong characters and very gripping tales. Unfortunately, she goes haywire in this book (In any case, contemprory romance requires more beleivability ). The tale of a millionnaire Nick (who carries a hard to believe trauma) stumbles into Lauren (who is spying without actually meaning too for someone else). This someone else, of course, is related to Nick's mother who has caused all that trauma. During their work together, he illtreats her, abuses her in front of everybody, goes to bed with her but still treats her like..@#$ and she puts up with it. Hey..isn't this an American author writing about contemprory American women ? Imean, here is this woman who gets pushed around, shows no self respect all the time Nick Sinclair treats her like dirt and then falls in love with him...with what precisely ?? I got to a point where I detested Nick Sinclair and the lady for putting up with all that nonsense and myself for paying good money for THIS! Judith....its allright in the 19th century for women to be treated boorishly by the men but in the late 20th century, its unbelievable..especially if you try and convince the audience that the jerk is not actually one !
Rating: Summary: it,'s a MUST READ!!!!!!!!!! Review: no words could ever describe the turmoil of emotions that wields up within me when i was reading this book.Judith just made you lau and cry and want to fall in love all over again at the same time!... this book is simply amazing, astounding and definitely a MUST read!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Like all of Judith McNaught's other books, I found this one to be written with feeling and something that only great writers seem to have.
Rating: Summary: it's one of the greatest romanc book i had ever read! Review: when I 1st read this book, i couldn't seems to put it down... the charaters are so real...and this is also the 1st book that touched me to my very soul. the last part, when Nick went to look for Lauren after hr knewn that he had wronged he was so touching and romantic that i can't help but cry.. it was so heart capturing and heart breakingly nice.... it Is a MUST REAd!
Rating: Summary: Wasn't much of a story at all. Review: I must disagree with nearly all of the other comments. The plot device used in this book to get Lauren to have to spy on Nick is thinner than anything I've ever seen. Both of them are SO unprofessional. How did Lauren stay a virgin up to this point in her life if it takes so little for her to sleep with Nick? I think his reaction was probably rational if a little cold. There were so many moments in this book that resembled other little moments in JM's other books. She cannot write a totally new, original book. And she also takes up a good chunk of space in every book recounting the entire love affair during The Separation. There's always a Separation in every story of hers.
Rating: Summary: Very Enjoyable Book Review: I found this book by chance in the library. Oh boy! I just couldn't put it down. I stayed up all night. I just love the characters -- so human, with all their weaknesses. A beautiful romance you should not miss .
Rating: Summary: Super read Review: This was my first McNaught book and it was the start of many hours of reading this great author. I wish she would write faster but I understand she writes slow because she wants her books to be perfect and it shows. I loved the characters esp. Nick. This book is a keeper that I pull out frequently an reread and I still enjoy it as much as the first time I read it.
Rating: Summary: ANOTHER WINNER!!! Review: Judith McNaught has an amazing ability to create extraordinary characters. In DOUBLE STANDARDS, we meet Nick and Lauren. Nick is a successful business man, owner of the rival company to one of Lauren's distant relatives. Lauren, in desperate need of financial help due to her father's illness, agrees to "keep an eye" on Nick's business in order to find out whether Nick has set up a spy in her relative's company. By chance, Nick and Lauren meet. Sparks immediately start to fly. Lauren obtains a position at Nick's company, thanks to Nick himself. Well, sure enough, their relationship develops not only sexually but emotionally. Things start getting complicated for Lauren when her relative tries to blackmail her into betraying Nick by threatening to expose her as a spy. Lauren manages to conjure up a way to give her relative what he wants without having to betray Nick. Unfortunately, Nick becomes aware of the betrayal and all hell breaks loose. Nick has been burned before by someone very close to him and therefor assumes the worst of Lauren. He coldly banishes Lauren out of his life. Lauren, now feeling betrayed by Nick for not listening to her, vows never to see him again. Nick soon realizes his mistake. He goes after her. Next, comes one of the most touching scenes I have ever read. It made me want to cry and laugh all at once. You'll just have to read this book in order to find out what happens. It's a must read.
Rating: Summary: the boom Review: this book is really good..when i first started i couldnt put it down! i loved all the novels that i have already read from her...the only thing that i am disappointed in is that it seems in the books that the female main character is alwayz a virgin and that guys r some sort of giglo! and there is alwayz happy ending i want 2 be surpised at the ending cuz before u pick up a book u think another happy ending...i loved 2 be surpised!
Rating: Summary: A bit far-fetched Review: I have read all of Judith McNaught's books. This one was a bit of a disappointment, therefore only 4 stars. Nick's behavior, taken in consideration of his background, could somehow be believed. However, Lauren's behavior is irrational. Intreviewing, still not knowing about Nick's connection to her "uncle", she behaves unlike a young woman that wants to support her family. Then she starts living her double life. When she and Nick become a story, still she does not confess. What is she waiting for? The inevitable crisis? Nor does it make sense that she will stay in the plush apartment, that obviously is not on her salary. All in all, I would expect her to cofess to Nick when they fall in love, and start to help him against evil Phil... Still the story is told in the regular McNaught fluent style and the background, as always, is very vivid and informative.
