Summary: cliche ridden romance
Review: Oh give me a break. The hard hearted hero with a past, the constantly misunderstood heroine. This is the 21st century. Shouldn't we have progressed beyond this? It was difficult to get past the first chapter let alone finish the book, and the predictable cliched ending put a lid on the biggest waste of my time (and money) I have ever encountered. I keep telling myself not to trust the amazon star ratings but i still keep getting suckered.

Summary: A REAL CIRCUS
Review: When Daisy Devereaux's beautiful, high-fashion model mother dies unexpectedly, Daisy is left in grief to manage her affairs. In a very short period, she faces financial ruin, and possibly jail time. Her rich father, Max, who has never been pleased with Daisy, offers her a bizarre solution - marry the man of his choosing, stay married for six months, and then he'll pay her debts and set her up financially for life. His intention, presumably, is to teach her a lesson in survival.

What kind of "groom" will go along with this arrangement? Enter Alex Markov, who owes a huge debt of gratitude to Max. He'll do as Max bids him, but grudgingly. His attitude of dislike and disrespect to Daisy give KISS AN ANGEL substance.

The marriage takes place and Alex is given charge over Daisy. What happens in the next few months in KISS AN ANGEL is a real circus, composed of part lesson, part survival and part nightmare.

This is a pleasant, light, romantic read.

Summary: Does melodrama make you cringe?
Review: I'd read a lot of reviews for Susan Elizabeth Phillips and it's true she is a very good writer. The dialogue is fast and I actually laughed out loud once or twice. However, personally I found that Ms Phillips swings between fast and modern and a rather uncomfortably 'classic' (read unnatural) cliche ridden style. It's not 'bad' writing as such and there are those that are looking for that type of novel, but just as scene starts off believable and zany it quickly plummets to being ridiculous and implausable. Things move too quickly between the main characters and once they get to the circus and tigers with sad looking eyes, melodrama is never far behind. The hero never progresses beyond cardboard cut-out and I'm afraid the sizzling sex scenes were forced and somewhat unsexy.

All in all readable, but if 'classic' romance novels make you cringe give this a miss and read Susan Anderson (All shook up) or anything by Jennifer Cruise instead.

Summary: Kiss an Angel was Heavenly
Review: This was sweet, escapist fluff at its best. I read the book in one afternoon, while trying to avoid my children. For the romance novel genre, this novel was perfection.

Summary: Read it, you'll love it!
Review: Wow... can romance fiction get any better than KISS AN ANGEL? In my opinion, I think not! KISS AN ANGEL by Susan Elizabeth Phillips is the best contemporary story I've read so far. It's full of humour, love, and witty dialogues.

The story opens with Daisy Devereaux and Alex Markov exchanging marriage vows. You see, Daisy has been depressed lately -her mother just passed away. Her parents were divorced, and Daisy was living with her mother. So when her mother died, Daisy thought the only way she could cope with her sadness was go on a shopping spree. She bought expensive clothes and jewellery all on credit, and when she had no money left in the bank, she still kept spending. It was only until she was given a warrant to be arrested did she realize her big mistake. Not wanting to face jail, she turns to her father for help. Daisy and her father never got along well together, and her father thought it was about time for Daisy to clean up her act. So he decides the only way that that can happen is for Daisy to get married to a man of his choosing, for six months. Well, and if she doesn't, then she can just face her future in jail. So Daisy's father picks Alex Markov, and quickly they are married. At once Alex takes Daisy away, and she is on a journey that will forever change her life.

Alex Markov is a man full of secrets, and his character/history is not fully revealed until near the end of the novel. He is not too pleased about getting married, especially to a girl who he believes is an airhead and only cares about her vanity. Well you may wonder why he would agree to such an arrange marriage. But as mentioned above, he is a man full of secrecy and to say anything would ruin the novel, but I will only say he owns Daisy's father a favour, because he did something for Alex long time ago. Presently he is working as a traveling circus manager, and he takes Daisy with him, and they live in a run-down trailer. Daisy at first is disgusted with the accommodations, but soon is in awe with the different type of lifestyle some people have. She begins performing in the circus, at Alex's command and bonds with animals that she'd never imagined she be able to see. She takes the marriage vow she and Alex had very seriously, and goes out of her way to be a good wife. Moreover she soon realizes that she cares for Alex and that caring quickly turns into love. Alex soon sees Daisy's real personality, and that she's not a bimbo at all, but a beautiful girl with a heart that is so loving and sweet, that he can't help but begins to care deeply for her. However something in his past makes him think that he is unable to love anyone, and in turns he finally breaks Daisy's heart. How he goes about fixing it is the most wonderful of all!

My favourite parts in the novel are when the circus is travelling from state to state, and each time Daisy and Alex are eating at a restaurant, Alex begins flirting with the waitress. One of the times this exchange takes place:

*Alex* "Back already, Sis?" He smiled, the glint of challenge in his eyes. "Tracey and I have been getting to know each other"

*Tracey - Waitress* "I'm trying to talk your brother into hanging around for a while, my shift ends in an hour."

*Daisy* "You sweet, sweet girl. He's been so self-conscious around women since his medical problem was diagnosed. But I keep telling him- with wonders of antibiotics, those pesky little sexually transmitted diseases are hardly a problem for anybody anymore."

And every time Daisy outsmarts him and gets him to stop. That's how serious she is about her vows. Read KISS AN ANGEL, you won't regret that you did!

Summary: My first but not my last SEP book.
Review: Really enjoyed the story, the pace, the dialogue, everything. Highly recommend!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: Susan Elizabeth Phillips is one of those rare authors that you can pick up and know without a doubt that you have a winner! "Kiss an Angel" was the first SEP novel I read. And now, I've devoured almost all of her books and wait with bated breath for the next release. Specifically, with regard to "Kiss an Angel," Daisy and Alex have a special story. They are thrown together through the wily political maneuverings of Daisy's father. But love blossoms between the pair even though there is a painful history behind Alex. Daisy manages to bring Alex out of the box and gives him life and joy. In the end, it is Alex who manages to return the gift after the way he hurts her and chases her off. I think that every great love story has a poignant moment where love that would normally be taken for granted is challenged and the lovers have to face that challenge in order to make for a future. Daisy and Alex have to face that challenge, and of course, like every romance novel - love prevails at the end of the day! For those who have never read and SEP novel you are surely missing out!

Summary: Suspend your belief and then...
Review: The literary critic (ha!) in me tells me I shouldn't give this 5 stars, but who cares. this was a sweet, I suppose kind of old-fashioned book. The story is quite implausible, and the whole Romanov thing is ridiculous, I think she should have left that out. but anyway, forgetting all that, it's a nice happy ever after story, and you just love reading about how Daisy finds her place with Alex and with everyone else. I've never found any of these books in Ireland, but they seem to be quite popular in Germany

Summary: Satisfaction Guaranteed
Review: Welcome to the world of Circus, as Alex Markov takes his new bride, Daisy Devreaux, to live their new life. Oh, not that Daisy choose this new life. Oh, no, she is forced to marry this handsome man or she goes to jail. What can she do anyway? But Alex has a plan for his spoiled bride...a plan that backfires when he realized that Daisy is not only having an angel face but also an angel heart...

The world of circus kinda amazes me. I liked circus myself, especially the trapeze perfomances. And I found myself liking this book sooo much. SEP has done it again. You'll laugh with the characters, share the pain with them, and in the end find the triumph of love...
