Summary: disappointing follow-up
Review: Sad to say, but I was a bit disappointed with the author's 2nd novel. I loved Milkrun and laughed out loud numerous times throughout the book. But with this one, I seldom even emitted one of Allie's annoying giggles. Standing alone, this book isn't horrible. I guess I was just spoiled, having read Milkrun first and expected more. One thing that confused me was how Allie seemed to change in the various chapters, depending on the narrator. When it was her telling the story, she seemed like a normal 22 year old. But when her roommates were the speakers, she became this annoying idiot who acted like a child at times. Also, it was a bit annoying to see Allie portrayed as the virgin of the group. Because of that, of course she's naive, doesn't know how to approach men, has no life, no will of her own....I mean, come on. Is she really that big of a push-over. And is she really that stupid? I guess the only consolation is that it does in fact get better at the end.

Summary: Great
Review: I love Sarah Mylnowski. This book didn't have as many laugh-out-loud moments as Milkrun, but it had more depth and more of a story. It was longer too, which was a good thing.

There are three characters speaking first-person in this book (they alternate chapters) which I thought was great. I didn't like one of the characters too much, the other I was nuetral about, and the third I really identified with. So you see, there's something for everyone.

I suggest this book not only to those who loved Milkrun, but anyone who likes chick lit, stories about friendships, or funny reads.

Summary: better than her first...
Review: I love Sarah Mlynowski's work. I was really impressed with Milkrun and her writing skills, but was even more taken away with Fishbowl. That story was written in so many different p.o.v's it made you interested. Also by adding some of Sarahs own thoughts or "descriptions" she made the book more life like and fun. I can not wait for As Seen On T.V. Not only is Sarah a great author she is a beautiful one to!! ;)

Summary: Totally Awes! Terrif! Ador! Fab!
Review: Mlynowski uses three very distinct voices, plus one omniscient narrator to create this hilariously and frighteningly insightful look into the roommate experience. Three diametrically opposed women (geometry majors try and figure THAT out) somehow manage to live together without combusting (though there is a small fire) and even learn a little in the process about themselves. There is no denying it: you WILL recognize at least one person you know (possibly yourself) if not many, many more. More to the point: You will laugh out loud. Often.

Summary: pretty realistic characters, actually
Review: Fishbowl examines three different roommates:[]man-hunting Emma, uptight, organized law student Jodine, and perky naive virginal Allie. Allie has been in her Toronto apartment for three years when her other roommates leave, and she starts looking for new ones. Hence -- Emma and Jodine.

Shortly after the other two women move in, there is a fire that burns down the kitchen. Their landlord Carl is not around, and the girls --- who do not have insurance -- are determined to earn the thousands of dollars needed to return it to its original look. But they don't have much income between them, and they need to fix it fast.

They hit upon throwing holiday parties at a local bar, and hosting a seminar on picking up women. Allie sees this as the perfect way to make progress with Clint, a selfish jerk whom she is so sure is her soulmate. Emma has just broken up with Nick for the umpteenth time and hopes to pick up. And Jodine, who gets with her ex Manny from time to time, just wants to earn the cash to repair the kitchen.

The characters are not very likable (each chapter is told my separate protagonist, or by an omniscent narrator -- who does not really like the three girls either). You take a while to pick whom you are rooting for, because each girl is easily either yourself or other people you know. That's a clever writing trick in the end. And, as the story progresses, there is no right or wrong one to like, and you don't know who is a worthy friend or not. Not till the very end, anyway.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: Allie, Emma and Jodine become roommates though they have never even met before. Each girl leads a very different life, but when their kitchen burns down they stick together to raise $10,000 to rebuild it so the landlord never finds out.

One of the things I loved was that Sarah Mlynowski used all three girls point-of-view, you have to watch the chapter heading to find out who's talking. Yes, as a reader you learn about all the bad traits about each character but I think all the description makes them more real. Everyone has flaws and, yes, people with nail biting, almost-anorixic or slutty traits do exist! It even helps you realize how different they really are- and how much they have to deal with to each personally grow from their situations.

Summary: So unbelievably good!!
Review: This book is amazing! it made my laugh so hard I could cry then it would really make me think about sometimes even my own actions. Now I am just a teenage girl but this book changed my life...Thanks!

Summary: I didn't want this one to end!
Review: This was the first book I have read by Sarah Mlynowki and I cannot wait to read her other books!
The three main characters in this book were presented so clearly that I feel like I know them. Allie, Jodine and Emma are very different people who come together as roommates. Their friendship and sanity are tested in many ways. This is an easy, fun and laughable read. I highly recommend it if you want something enjoyable to read!

Summary: Don't waste your time on Fishbowl
Review: I found "Fishbowl" by following the links "if you liked this book, you'll love this one." It has a cute title and cover, but this book was terrible. I enjoy reading funny parts of books out loud during road trips. I started reading this book and everyone in the car agreed that it was awful! I have barely dragged myself through it, and only then because I have finished all my other books for now. The characters are so annoying and self-centered! You've got an obsessive-compulsive girl who won't eat, constantly works out at the gym, and refuses to commit to her perfect boyfriend. Then you've got the idiotic chubby girl who can't stop spilling stuff all over herself, biting her fingernails, eating, and agonizing over a dumb guy who's not even remotely interested in her. Finally, you've got the slutty witch who is always feeling sorry for herself, taking advantage of people, dating/breaking up with her control freak boyfriend, and being rude to her parents. What a lovable bunch. They are the most annoying group of women from whose point of view to read. The book moves so SLOW! How can there be any character transformation if the whole book takes place within about 1 month? And how can there be a plot when each page is made up of each girl obsessing over the laborious details of her stupid life? YUCK!!!! ...

Summary: Really enjoyed this book
Review: I could barely put this book down. The characters had real depth and you could relate with at least one of them. The fact that the story was told from the perspective of each of the roommates allowed the reader to see all sides of the characters. You could see the character through the eyes of her roommates and how she saw herself. I enjoyed the book greatly and would suggest it to anyone who loves contemporary fiction.
