Rating: Summary: So Glad I Don't Have Roommates Review: As I closed the last page of "Fishbowl" by Sarah Mlynowski, all I could do was take deep breath and say a silent prayer of thanks that I don't have to live with roommates. I have a feeling that this book gets put in the category of "CHICK LIT" like many MANY books by young women who write about YOUNG women. But - this Red Dress Inc. book goes beyond your usual, "I NEED A BOYFRIEND TO MAKE ME HAPPY" genre and into the unlikely friendships between women. All women - no matter how different they may be. I really enjoyed "Fishbowl" and think it's a great step forward for Ms. Mlynowski (previous work - "Milkrun"). I loved the dynamics between the 3 female roommates, the adventures they seem to get themselves into and the outside characters they encounter. Its funny, well written, and thought out. It's a keep and a real treat! Cheers!
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I got this as a Christmas gift. I thought it was great! I really liked the way the story was told with the different perspectives. If you like light-hearted reads...here's one for you!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: I cannot believe how much I loved this book! The language is so hilarious, the situations so plausible, and the characters so lovable that I didn't want it to end! Mlynowski is now one of my favorite authors of all time, and I can't wait to read Milkrun. Here's hoping that Ms. Mlynowski continues to pen such witty and gratifying page-turners.
Rating: Summary: fantastic, fun read Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. Though it's been a while since I suffered through living with roommates, I could easily relate to the main characters. Allie is the happy-go-lucky roommate who lives in a world of rainbows and butterflies. She is nice to everyone and easily gets her feelings hurt. Her new roommates are Emma - the footwear designer who flashes her sex-appeal like a smile, and Jodine -the...control freak finishing law school. A couple weeks into living together the girls find themselves in a bind and must come up with a large amount of money in a hurry. The remainder of the book takes you on their quest for cash and you find out what friendships are really all about. The biggest enjoyment I received from this book was the author's style of writing. You get to experience the book from four different points of view - Allie, Emma, Jodine and the omnipotent Narrator. I found myself getting excited to see how one person's point of view varied from the others regarding specific scenes. I found this book just too fun to put down and I finished it in less than 2 days. It was an easy, enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining Review: "Fishbowl" deals with the story of three young women, Allie, Jodine and Emma who discover that it is not quite easy to share an apartment. All three came from very different family background and hence, very different personalities. In spite of their differences, they bonded and became friends. However, the test to their friendships came when a fire broke out in their apartment. Since the apartment was not insured, they had to come out with money to repair their kitchen and to replace the appliances. They came up with all sorts of schemes, such as Halloween party and seminar on how to pick up women. Even though the theme of this book is friendship, the book does deal with relationships with the opposite sex. However, "Fishbowl" unlike other chick lits, does not focus on it solely and it is actually quite refreshing and different. The characters are not the typical heroines in chick lits but actually women with tons of flaws. The only complain I have this book is that the author makes it seems like smoking pot is normal and common which I think is not true. I highly recommend this book as I think it is fun, humorous and very quirky. It deals with everyday issues such as getting along with your roommates, finding yourself after graduation, feeling lost and lastly, friendships. "Fishbowl" shows that even in a confined situation with people who are very different from you, it is still up to you to make the best out of it.
Rating: Summary: great read! Review: At first I was a little wary of the book being that each chapter was told by a different character or narrator. After reading a few chapters I was completely in love with the characters AND the style of writing! It was a very unique perspective from each character and it's great to actually get into the mind of what each character feels about the same situation! It is brilliant! I also LOVED the characters! They all had very different personalities and it was a fun ride to take with them all!
Rating: Summary: Fast and a little TOO mindless... Review: I bought this book after reading 'Milkrun' and was excited to find that it was a nice meaty-looking book. Looks can be deceiving. 'Fishbowl' has the potential to be a smart and funny read, but the characters are cliche and transparent. I don't mind a little formula here and there, but this one takes the stereotypes just a little too far. (Think Three's Company, but all female! Jodine=Janet, Allie=Chrissy, Emma=Jack) The whole apartment fire episode is a nice plot addition, but overall, this novel falls short of expectations.
Rating: Summary: Unlikeable and Idiotic characters Review: I had read Mlynowski's 'Milkrun' and found it cute and entertaining. I am also a fan of 'chick lit' as someone in a previous review labeled it. But I found this book to be so annoying that I couldn't even finish it... No one is as unlikeable and just plain dumb as all three of the women. If you like this genre of writing, skip this book and read someone different and much better, like Marian Keyes or Jane Green or Jill Davis (author of 'Girls Poker Night' one of the funniest reads ever) or just stick to the best of the lot, Helen Fielding.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: i bought this book simply because i really enjoyed the author's other book "milkrun" ...i had a few hours to kill until i had to be somewhere, so there i was in starbucks laughing out loud at the characters. the book is brilliantly written - from the perspectives of the 3 roommates AND the author as narrator. i have and will recommend this book to others
Rating: Summary: FunFunFun Review: This book is really enjoyable. All the characters are different and well written not all likeable but deffinately add to the environment of the book. I recommend this book to all twenty something girls. Or all single girls. Take your pick it's soo funny.
