Rating: Summary: HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL Review: Before reading Beverly Jenkins, I was a snob when it came to Romance Novels. Wouldn't entertain the thought of reading one. Now she has a fan for life. I've read all her other novels with the exception of Vivid, which I cannot find, so my expectations are pretty high. Indigo surpasses them all. Long after you've removed the book mark and closed the back cover this story will haunt you. The thing that makes Beverly so great is a combination of lyrical writing(the dialog between character is witty and the word-play between lovers is both spirited and lusty), incredible storylines, and characters that live and breath. Hester Wyatt (Indigo) is the type of woman, we all strive to be, strong, honorable, intelligent and committed to causes she believes in. Galen Vachon is her soulmate, he is without a doubt the most handsome, determined and passionate character ever. Together they find love, discover passion and the rewards of shared commitment. This is a must read!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BEVERLY JENKINS BOOK YET! Review: I do not normally read historical romances. I was selecting books from a book club, saw the Black characters on the cover and decided to give it try. I was amazed at the how vivid the characters were and how they seemed to almost jump off the page. More importantly, I WAS AMAZED THAT BEVERLY WROTE BOOKS ABOUT STRONG, SENSITIVE, GOOD BLACK MEN!!!!! I had never read a book that painted Black men in a such a positive light. Not only is Galen stunningly handsome, but he truly loves Hester and spares no expense at showing her so. He is well read, wealthy, and has impeccable manners. I also like the fact that Hester is one of our darker skinned beauties. Therefore, smashing the horrible myth that Black is only beautiful if lighter in color. I have since read each and every book Beverly Jenkins has written and they are all fabulous. Indigo is my favorite followed closely by Through the storm, a completely separate story, however, the characters were introduced in Indigo. I love the way she entertwines more than one story, and a large piece of African American history as well. KEEP WRITING YOUR WONDERFUL BOOK BEVERLY!!! I HAVE INTRODUCED SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS, BOTH MALE AND FEMALE, TO YOUR WONDERFUL STYLE OF WRITING!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books I have ever read Review: Indigo was a book club selection of the month. After not trying to read due to what we thought would be a boring book turned out to be one of the most captivating books we have read in our three years of being together. From the first page until the last she keep you on your toes. I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Jenkins at Book Club event and she was such a warm person. We will be loyal fans for life. I pray she will continue to write stories we can all find a part to relate to.
Rating: Summary: Jenkins Continues to Delight, Amaze and Inform Review: I am a huge fan of Beverly Jenkins' work. I've read "Night Song" and "Vivid." I could hardly wait to read the next great work she created. "Indigo" was everything I expected. I remembered being introduced to Galen and Hester in "Vivid." The story is rich, lush and romantic. I love how Jenkins presents African-Americans in a positive light. Hester is intelligent, strong, witty and classy. Galen is charming, beguliing, sensitive, romantic and incredibly sexy. You will be swept away in a world of romance, intrigue and lavishness. There are sweet moments as well as a few laughs. I must admit, I like "Vivid" more so than this novel. However, "Indigo" is an excellent book. Not only are Jenkins books entertaining, but informative. Throughout all three of her novels, interesting and historically accurate facts are interwoven into the plot. I suggest "Indigo" to ANY woman who wants to read quality romance novels and not only finish the book with a sense of being entertained, but enlightened.
Rating: Summary: An all powerful love Review: I've reviewed this book before but it bears repeating. This is one of the most romantic books I've ever read. Beverly Jenkins is a wonderful writer whose books I can not get enough of. I read her books so fast and can hardly wait for the next one. Indigo and Topaz are my favorites but the others are also very good. I recommend these books to anyone who loves romance and excitement. Beverly's books always gives you a history lesson and that's one of the things I really love about them. And I see why her books are always out of print, because they completely sell out and more have to be printed. Keep up the excellent writing Beverly, you have a fan for life.
Rating: Summary: The Black Daniel finds his Princess Review: This book is a must read. You might want to read it a few times because once is not enough. Hester and Galen Vachon.... This has to be one of my all time favorite books. Galen, "The Black Daniel" a well know slave stealer is nursed back to health by none other than Hester. Hester, the purple handed former slave girl is no match for The Daniel, but she holds her own by keep The Daniel at bay. The Daniel falls in love with Hester and keeps his promise to love honor and cherish her all of their lives. I have read all of Beverly Jenkins stories and have enjoyed each and every book. Indigo is a wonderful love story. Ms Jenkins broke the mold when she wrote this story. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: The Best Ever!!! Review: I absolutely love this book. You could feel the love between Galen and Hester. He loved her sooo much, he was her friend, lover, protector, and teacher. If I could find a man to love me that much mentally and physically, I swear I would be happy living in a shack for the rest of my life as long as I had that man by my side. When Galen found Hesters mother that topped off the whole story. If you never read any of this authors work please, please read INDIGO!
Rating: Summary: Indigo by Beverly Jenkins Review: I love all Beverly Jenkins books however, this one was a little diasappointing to me. Before Hester Wyatt met her love interest in Galen Vachon she was a spiritual, church going individual. She regularly prayed and everything. However, after being involved with Galen, she becomes the total opposite of what she was at the beginning of the book. I really don't think that the author should set us up to believe that Hester is a good, Christian girl in the beginning only to have her be the complete opposite (someone who has let go of her very own morals )at the end.
Rating: Summary: INDIGO Review: WORDS CANNOT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THIS BOOK. THE LOVE THAT IS SHARED BETWEEN INDIGO AND GALON WAS BREATH TAKING. I'VE RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND EVERYONE HAS READ IT AT LEAST 2X (I READ IT 4X MYSELF). PURCHASE THIS BOOK AND I GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED.
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected Review: This book was presented as primarily a historical novel. Its basically a very unrealistic smut novel with some history sprinkled in. It reads such that you are only hoping for the main couple to finally get it on, and the main character is sooo not a dimensional or realistic character. I read the reviews before I bought this, and they did not acurately describe the book at all. It does have some steamy scenes that were well done--but again not too realistic. I guess if you want an escaptist book that doesn't have a cover which gives it away as a tacky romance--this is the book for you.
