Summary: A major disappointment!
Review: I was once a huge fan of Mr. Dickey. In my opinion, his early writing definitely raised the bar in the genre of African American fiction. I don't understand what happened. Since Milk in My Coffee, his work has sunken to the level of the writers he once wrote circles around. Liar's Game is a prime example. The plot is weak, the characters weaker and the writing is sophomoric at best. Lia's Game fluctuates between being overwritten and underwritten, leaving the reader feeling both frustrated and disappointed. On several occasions I found myself asking "Who would say this???" I don't know if Mr. Dickey is feeling pressure from his publishers to crank out more stories but it definitely feels that way. I wish he would slow down and write more of the great fiction that made us love him in the first place.

Summary: SNOWBALL EFFECT
Review: After taking an Eric Jerome Dickey hiatus, I don't think that I could have found a better novel to usher me back into the fold. I have to say that The Liar's Game was a "snowball" of a book in the sense that it began relatively slow, but increased in size and momentum to the point that I was so riveted, I found it impossible to put down. And what interesting characters!VINCE: Most of us know a Vince; a seemingly great guy, with "luggage" from past relationships, of both the physical and mental kind. We all have to sympathize with him and the difficulties that his ex-wife if presenting where their child is concerned. Although he loves Dana, the ghost of his love for Malaika is haunting their relationship. DANA: She's all of us, most of us. She is fresh from a disappointing relationship with a guy she truly loved; he is her spectre. Her insecurites with respect to her relationship with Vince are a direct result of that past damaging love interest. CLAUDIO: Every woman has had her Claudio. The suave, cool bad boy that we all adore who can only promise to disappoint us in the end. The finale in the novel is a burst of fireworks, and will leave you with your mouth open! Congratulations to Mr. Dickey on a fabulous read...I've already ordered the new novel.

Summary: Disappointed! Not as good as previous works!
Review: This book was a far cry from the excellent literary work of EJD's previous books. It seemed as if Dickey didn't introduce us to the characters in his book, but rather rushed us into the storyline right away. After reading the first two or three chapters, I found myself silently asking, "What is this?", "What am I supposed to be inferring from what I've just read." It just all seemed unorganized and thrown together somewhat. I didn't begin to enjoy the book until half-way through. It was at this point that the book began to take on the shape of Dickey's previous works and the writing style I have come to enjoy. It was only then that I began to want to read more and more. So, this review is fair warning to all EJD fans. This book isn't as good as his previous ones. The characters are severely dysfunctional and at times do things that seem unrealistic. My suggestion is, don't buy this book, but instead borrow it from a friend. If you like it, add it to you EJD collection. If not, no money lost.

Summary: HE HAD BETTER
Review: KNOWING ERIC JEROME DICKEY I WENT TO THE BOOK STORE THE MINUTE THIS BOOK CAME OUT AND BROUGHT THE HARDCOVER. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I DIDN'T REALLY LIKE IT. MAYBE IT'S B'CUZ I READ ALL HIZ OTHA BOOKS AND THOUGHT THIS ONE WOULD B EVEN BETTA. DON'T GET ME WRONG IT'S GOOD BUT I WAS WONDERING WHEN THE LYING WAS GONNA START. EVEN THOUGH I'M SAD TO SAY I WOULD SUGGEST BUYING THE PAPERBACK OR BORROWING IT FROM THE LIBRARY.

Summary: His Best work to date
Review: I have read all of EJD, books. But I must say that Liar's Game is his best work so far. I love the imperfections of the characters. I wish he would write another book about these characters.

Summary: Be Adventurous
Review: I wish that EJD and other authors would take a chance and realize that every story doesn't have to end happily. In this book the main female character has issues. She came off as the kind of woman most people would call crazy, the kind that usually gets a man in trouble. She was headsmart one minute and irrationally jealous the next. In the real world Vince would have landed in prison or would have lost what little he did have because of her. Then all of a sudden EJD tried to make her seem normal so he could sew everything together just in time for the happy ending. Part of what draws me into a story is the complexity of the issues and situations that characters are placed in. I want to see how the characters are going to deal with difficult situations, but the couple doesn't always have to end up together in the end. I appreciate realism. Why can't couples break up sometimes instead of ending up together after everything that has happened tells us that they probably shouldn't be anywhere near each other? When you decide to give a story a happy ending, you should at least make sure that you've given the reader good reason to like the characters enough to want them to end up happily. In addition, can there be a relationship that doesn't have to skip to the bedroom so quickly and so often? Sex scenes are good but they get tired real quick when the characters lack substance and sex is all that seems to hold them together. I have enjoyed other books by EJD, but I just wish he'd be a little more adventurous. He could also use a better copy editor since the same spelling/typing errors seem to persist throughout all of his books.

Summary: Blah, Blah, Blah
Review: Where was the Liar's Game? This book's title is very deceptive. There is no thought provoking game going on here. The tangle web that these characters weaved was not that deceptive. This book was not a page turner. A good book would take me two days to read but this one took three weeks, need I say more. I have read all of EJD books and this one is another let down. "Milk in my Coffee" was the first. The story line between Dana and Vince seemed never ending. "Liar's Game" missed the high drama and excitement that "Cheaters" had to offer. After Cheaters, it would be natural to have high expectations for this book. The title also made you think you were in store for much, much more than what was given. It was not his worst but it was not his best either. Better luck next time EDJ.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I think that this is one of his best books. The novel had everything I was looking for comedy, romance and even a little suspense thrown in. I loved the way he showed how secrets and half-truths can come back to haunt you. Recommended Buy!

Summary: Not what I expected
Review: I guess I expected more because I have read all his books up to this point and hadn't been disappointed.It was just a story No plot, no nothing. I hope the new one coming out restores my faith in his writing. He's still my favorite though.
