Rating: Summary: Steamy but not very romantic! Review: This is not one of the 'good' SJ books. It was written a long time ago, and is quite like the romances published in the early eighties where the hero was perpetually unfaithful to the heroine and the heroine was docile and obedient. The sex scenes were quite ok, though quite brief compared to her later novels. This was not a book I enjoyed a lot, primarily because of the arrogant and cruel hero.
Rating: Summary: This book is a total waste of time!! Review: This is the worst romance I've ever read, and I've read a lot. The characters are flat and unbelievable, especially the lusty prince, who spends his time only on sex and alcohol, and hardly keeps himself awake. How can this terrible guy at the same time a master of music and other talents? There's absolutely no love between them. And the heroine is no better. She has no self-will, no dignity, not to mention a strong inner character. She's nothing but a pretty doll for men to play around. It'sa total waste of time!
Rating: Summary: Where's The Romance? Review: This SJ book was quite disappointing. Susan Johnson writes beautifully, but in this novel, there's no romance. Sasha is hot-headed, like most men in novels, but the way he treats Zena is horrific. Zena is made out to be some meek, who can't speak up about the way she's being treated. Why, oh why would anyone think a human being getting "sold" would be romantic? Who thinks rape is romantic? Who thinks being treated like less than decent is romantic? This hasn't kept me from reading other SJ novels, though. BRAZEN by far is my favorite. This one is a little on the egde (and I don't mind that IF IT'S ROMANTIC). I'm not going to say, "Don't go out and buy this book," you make your own decisions. But if your a romance nut like me, this one isn't for you.
Rating: Summary: HATED IT!! Review: This was the first Susan Johnson book that I ever read! I had heard such great things about her style of writing and was looking forward too it! But I was really disappointed. I really love her erotic style of writing, but I had no sense that there was anything between these two characters besides lust. He treated her terribly and she put up with it continually! I also took offense to the "rape" scene that ended up sounded more like a sex scene. Anyway, after reading this book, I was tempted to never read another SJ novel again, but I'm happy to say I did. Because I have really enjoyed almost everything else I have read by her, especially Blaze, A Touch of Sin, Outlaw and Pure Sin. I would try those out first and skip this one! Aside from this mess, her style of writing is first rate in my book!
Rating: Summary: Exciting erotic sex scenes Review: Well, I don't pick Susan Johnson's books purely for a good romantic story, but for the imaginative and erotic sex scenes instead. Ya, it's trashy. But SJ is the most reliable writer to come up with with sex scenes that really sizzle. When I want a change and look forward to more erotic sex scenes, I look for SJ's books. This is probably not her best but I happened to keep it for the erotic sex scenes. She usually promises at least a good one towards the end of the book and this book has 2. What about storyline? Well, it should not be the main reason to read SJ's book. Storyline is merely a backdrop for her sex scenes.
Rating: Summary: Very good but... Review: Zena, attempting to get away from a man that she is supposed to marry, meets Prince Alex (Sasha) as he is heading out. He agrees to take her with him thinking she is a streetwalker and doesn't mind the auburn haired beauty's company. He finds out soon enough she wasn't what he thought but decides to 'keep her' for a while. He does not want to marry anyone at his age so he makes it quite clear to her of his intentions. Tempers flare and the trouble begins.. This book was quite graphic and that is fine but I don't usually like books where one of the main characters is not faithful after they meet. Also, there is a rape scene that I agree with another reader, was made to sound like it was not rape at all. I would have rather that not have happened at all. I was hoping against hope help would arrive in time. Other than that, the storyline was good and I enjoyed it when this 'Archer' Prince realizes how much he cares for Zena and goes after her.
