Rating: Summary: It's kind of predictable, but a good red Review: Alice leaves Chicago as the overweight teen with her sights set on being an actress. She returns as Desiree LaCroix and has gone through a transformation. She also left her best friend and first love in Chicago. On a chance meeting she sees him again, and finds the sparks are still there. While in town, Desiree/Alice is recruited to work with the children in the community theater, but someone is not happy she there. You will figure out the culprit quickly. The suspense is seeing what happens next at the center and with Marcus. It was a good romance for a 3.5 rating.
Rating: Summary: I Got You Babe! Review: Alice Watson had an emotionally unstable family life. Her only safety zone is her father. He seems the only one in her family that believes she can do anything. But that would soon fail, because her father died and now she really felt all alone. At school Alice is always laughed at and talked about. Alice wondered would she ever find any peace. Well, she found it in acting. When Alice was acting she felt nothing and nobody could harm her. She had a good friend Marcus Quinn. Alice always looked up to Marcus for encouragement. After a while, Alice fell in love with Marcus. Marcus confides in her and she feels very close to him. One day Marcus tells her that he is going to ask Tanisha one of the most popular girls in school to be his bride. Alice thought she was going to die... But she didn't she left home after graduation and became an actress. Thirteen years later, Alice was good at her craft and made a name for herself. After her mother is admitted to the hospital for heart trouble, she has to come back to her hometown of Chicago and face all of her demons including her mother. She finds Marcus and Tanisha divorced, leaving Marcus a bitter man when it comes to women. She surprised her ex-classmates with her celebrity status. She felt good about doing well inspite of what they thought about her. There were alot of things happening in this book. I like the suspense, but when I found out who done it, I thought the reasons could have been more powerful than they were. I liked the story very much, but wanted to knock Marcus out!!!!
Rating: Summary: Romance rules! Review: Boy, some people just have to be haters! I thought this book by Ms. Perrin was awesome. Something every woman can relate to. If you don't like romance novels, you shouldn't read them. Besides, this book was about so much more than romance. I just read it this past weekend on the advice of a friend and I couldn't put it down! It had me hooked right till the end. And I didn't notice any errors. It seems to me that the reviewer who pointed out the errors only wanted to promote that other woman's book. Go Kayla!
Rating: Summary: An adult fairy tale romance that works Review: Close to graduating high school, overweight and pickable Alice Watson wants two things in life: Marcus Quinn and a career as an actress. No one except her father and Marcus believes that Alice should go to Los Angeles. Even her mother disses Alice's dreams as a LaLaland fantasy because no one will hire an obese African-American in filmdom. When Marcus asks Alice for advice about another girl, she concludes that her best friend will never see her as his lover. That sends Alice to LA upon graduation. Thirteen years later, Alice returns home to nurse her mother, recovering from a heart attack. However, the Alice who goes home is not the same person who left town, as she is beautiful, glamorous, and confident. She tries to mend the break with her mom and seeks out the now divorced Marcus, who she still loves. However, will he see her as his old bud, a quick bed, or finally, the loving other half that will make life complete for both of them? This ethnic romantic remake of the "Ugly Duckling" theme will captivate the audience with its charming plot and delightful cast. The lead couple is a swan and a hunk whose relationship makes the novel a joy to read. However, the depth to the tale belongs to Alice's efforts to patch up her relationships especially with her mother and sister. Readers will want more novels like IF YOU WANT ME from Kayla Perrin, who eloquently states that a person can go home. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Way to go! Review: I always like these types of books. Call me a romantic, call me a sap, I don't care. I read a review of this book, and had to get it for myself. I didn't regret getting it, and loved Alice. She was loving, kind and had a heart of gold. Even when her own family and friends were not as loving. Yet, despite it all, she gets the man who she truly loves. Though the way of getting it is no easy feat. In the midst of this, she deals with family issues, secrets, unrequited love, and some danger. Folks who love the ugly duckling turned swan themes will love it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!!! Review: I could totally relate to this story. It was so much like real life, but the good girl wins in the end. I want to see this one as a move!
Rating: Summary: More, more, more! Review: I don't know about the previous reviewer, but I read and LOVED this book! It was great entertainment from start to finish. Just the right amount of romance and mystery to satisfy any reader. And the sensuality was hot! Keep 'em coming, Ms. Perrin. Congrats on a job well done!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!!! Review: I like books about people changing their lives around. This book is alright but its lacking something, I can't put a finger on it. It's about a over weight girl who strive to become a movie star. Her mother and everybody else put her down except her pal Marcus. She left Chicago to reach her goal. She became what she wanted, and lost all that weight, she is beautiful now. When she comes back to Chicago everybody looks at her in a different light, no longer teasing. She falls back in love with Marcus, but is not sure if he loves her for her or her new look. I didn't fully enjoy reading this.

Rating: Summary: I liked it, but it could of ended better Review: I like this book alot, I couldn't put it down, however, it needed more of something. I felt that they summed it up to quickly, and it was obvious who was out to scare her. I loved the characters Alice and Marcus, although there was a few times I wanted to punch Marcus in the mouth. This is a great book if you ever felt like an outsider in your family or if you ever felt like your mother showed favortism. Pick it up, you'll be glad you did.
