Rating: Summary: An impelling read of a woman's self discovery Review: A childhood memory and a lost love--buried in another life, beyond her control--surface to propel Avery Baldwin backward through her privileged life as a Florida realtor to the childhood simplicity she had known each summer in the North Carolina mountains and to face at last the devastating events which had shaped her adult life. Ann Brandt skillfully takes her readers along on Avery's journey of sef-discovery, while pausing long enough along the way to appreciate the lush beauty of old Florida--disappearing forever under the developers' bulldozers--and the stark beauty of the Appalachians--where time stands still at "Crowfoot Ridge."
Rating: Summary: Outstanding work! Review: Ann Brandt has written an outstanding novel. This story is packed full of emotion as it helps you remember fond memories from your own past- especially of your first love. The story makes you laugh, and it makes you cry. The characters are very well developed- enough to think of them as your friends. This was one of the few books that I have just picked up at the bookstore and after reading the flap, I was hooked- and I remained that way through the entire book. I hope we will not have to wait long before Ms. Brandt has another novel for us! Please treat yourself to a relaxing day in Crowfoot Ridge. This is one I will not soon forget.
Rating: Summary: This delightful novel held my attention from start to finish Review: Ann Brandt is a refreshing new fiction writer. When I had completed Crowfoot Ridge, I felt as though I new each character intimately and could picture each and every scene on Crowfoot Ridge as if I had been there. Her characters are strong and believable. Ms. Brandt brings a new charm to the fiction world. I am anxiously awaiting her next novel.
Rating: Summary: A should be made-for-tv-movie -- a three-night cliff-hanger! Review: Ann Brandt's CROWFOOT RIDGE is a GOOD READ -- a FAST READ -- a full-circle "coming-of-age" story of a thoughtful woman's "search-for-soul!" Puzzle pieces are skillfully put in place by the last page -- 278.I've sent a copy to a Hollywood friend -- an A-list producer of successful "made-for-tv" projects. I think it could be a cliff-hanger -- very interesting to "watch" CROWFOOT "wind" before its methodical unspin -- a two or three night saga!
Rating: Summary: Crowfoot Ridge shines as bright as a North Carolina dawn! Review: Ann Brandt's first novel, Crowfoot Ridge, is a truly amzaing premiere work! It is rich with imagery and deep in emotional content. Despite the fact it touches on themes such as rape, murder, child molestation, lost innocence of youth and corporate greed -- it is not a "heavy" read in the least. Crowfoot Ridge's three primary characters (Avery, Sylva and Mars) are people who seem to jump right off the page. Avery's quest to re-establish contact with childhood friends (including a first love) winds up being so much more than a simple reunion with lost kindred spirits -- it is a touching lesson that emotional closure is as much a natural cycle of life as sunrise and sunset, winter and spring, birth and death.
Rating: Summary: From North Carolina, a whole new Circle of Friends Review: Avery Kessler's roadtrip to destiny takes the reader from the marshes of southern Florida to the kaleidoscope-colored Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Avery returns to Crowfoot Ridge and the memories and lies that have haunted her since childhood. She returns to the Marshall family: Sylva, her best friend; and Mars, her first love. But things have changed since Avery left Crowfoot Ridge, and digging up the past means confronting an uncertain future. Avery's journey is made more poignant and dramatic as the seasons change in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ann Brandt's vivid writing paints bold, colorful scenery and come-to-life characters. Like Avery, after reading Crowfoot Ridge, I know I'll return to it again and again.
Rating: Summary: No Snoring for me, the book kept me up all night! Review: Beautifully written. Compelling story with characters that were believable. I loved Ann's visual imagery and felt as if I was in the mountains of North Carolina or in South Florida. I particularly liked the way she wove the environmental issues of over development into the plot and contrasted this with the pristine beauty of the Carolina mountains. I could not put the book down. This book is a compelling read.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment ! Review: Best Light reading I've done in quite a while. It kept me up at night.I can't wait for more!
Rating: Summary: True love is like hardy bird toes
Review: Crowfoot is a ground pine shaped like bird toes. "If you put it in your pocket, you'll have good luck," says one of the characters in "Crowfoot Ridge". This is the story of Avery, who lives in Florida with her family, but who really lives and grows up during the family's annual one month summer vacations in North Carolina. On Crowfoot Ridge, Avery learns her lessons about life, and love, lessons which include betrayal, and true love, and things that really matter in life. The story goes back and forth between Avery, the child, and Avery, the adult in Florida, showing how the Crowfoot Ridge months made Avery who she is. Who IS Avery? She's a woman torn with a terrible secret, unable to rest until she tells the truth about what happened one summer month on Crowfoot Ridge. This book kept me glued until the very end! The ending was so satisying, I read it over and over again. Read this book for the suspense, and a good story, and be prepared to shed a few tears!
