Summary: The type of story I've been dying to read was found here...
Review: I was so delighted to meet Ann Brandt in person at our local Barnes and Noble. At the time I found her personality delightful and her joy for writing contagious! As a writer myself, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with her and learn of the wonderful story behind her journey to publication and the miracle that made it a reality. I only wish I'd read the book before our talk. I would have loved to discuss this wonderful story with her!

Finally, finally I found the type of story I've been dying to read! There was no evil ex-husband, just a simple growing apart that happens to so many. There was a wonderful ecology lesson and an addressing of a real life problem in our world. I always enjoy being made aware of true life problems that should bother all of us! Not only that, but wrapped within this was a powerful love story and a powerful lesson in finding true love.

The writing was pure poetry and I read through it with lightning speed only to slow at the end simply because I didn't want to let these wonderful characters go. As a reader you will fall in love with Mars. The beauty of the setting as seen through Ms. Brandt's eyes will enchant you and allow you to wander through Avery's world with her.

This is truly a 5 STAR delight and a must read! Thanks Ann! I can hardly wait to read your next novel!

Sincerely,

Mary Gauden Hughes

Summary: An Engaging Read!!
Review: In her first novel, I found Brandt's portrayal of characters to be very deep. The character's themselves are complex. . .the story is not. Living in NC, I figured out quickly that the names of the characters from North Carolina have Carolina names (they are all counties and towns) Avery=Avery Country; Mars=Mars Hill; Wayne=Waynesville; Shelby=Shelby. The "outsiders" from Flordia have "normal" names. After meeting Brandt, I can assure you that she is just as deep as her characters. She herself had a life-changing experience. I would encourage any of you who enjoyed CROWFOOT to go meet her if possible. The discussion of the novel was just as engaging.

Summary: Reading "Crowfoot Ridge" is an experience to treasure.
Review: Ms. Brandt's imagery is vivid. She transports her readers to two states, North Carolina and Florida. As an American living in Germany, it was wonderful visiting those states without leaving this country. I felt like I was home again. The characters in "Crowfoot Ridge" will not leave your memory. Ms. Brandt's usage of dialog is real. It is obvious that she knows her characters and is loyal to them. This is one book that I am adding to my personal library. I would recommend this book to individuals who enjoy strong characters and reading about how they deal with the problems and joys of life.

Summary: Ann Brandt finds gold on Crowfoot Ridge
Review: People have dug into the Appalachian hills for generations, looking for coal. Ann Brandt has mined the same region for gold. Her novel Crowfoot Ridge is the evocatively-told tale of a woman who has decided she must return to Crowfoot Ridge and reveal the truth about a hideous childhood incident. It is a secret she has kept all her life, but after a brush with death opens her eyes to the lie she has been living, she knows that only by returning to Crowfoot Ridge and revealing this secret can she set herself free of it. This book features powerful writing, a finely-tuned sense of place and character, and a storyline that keeps you turning the pages until the surprising and emotional finale.

Summary: Yawn, snore; what a bore!
Review: Simply one of the worst books I have ever read -- didn't evenbother to finish it! The writing was sophomoric and simplistic, andthe story line was just too pat for me to deal with. I was far from being transported back to Florida or North Carolina (and I'm quite familiar with both those places). On the contrary, I felt this story could have taken place anywhere -- which was a let-down for me. Thank goodness I got this one out of the library and didn't waste my money!!

Summary: I expected a simple love story and got a surprise instead.
Review: The book description confused me, setting it in both North California and North Carolina but once the book arrived I found a surprising story. This book has everything to keep a reader turning pages. The powerful story is told in a writing style that keeps the reader involved with the love scenes, shootings of animals or man, incest or restoration of friendships. Unlike Kirkus, I enjoyed the book and look forward to another.

Summary: Great read
Review: The characters were well drawn and realistic. The author then took these characters, which hailed from times past and present, and drew them together into a deep relationship that kept me reading from the beginning right up to the end. Great first effort. Great read.

Summary: Crowfoot Ridge is a book I will read a second time.
Review: There are not many books I will read twice---The Great Gatsby, A Dangerous Fortune, The Razor's Edge, to name a few stories I have read over and over. I received Ann Brandt's Crowfoot Ridge from Amazon.com on a Thursday and by Friday night I was finished. On Sunday afternoon I started on chapter one again, this time reading more slowly to catch and savor every nuance. Ann has a way of turning a phrase that the seasoned reader will appreciate and a new reader, or a novice writer, will want to mark with his or her yellow highlighter. Not only is the book well-written, but it is a fine and evocative story as well.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Enjoyable story, but needs editing
Review: This book didn't quite deliver on the promise made by the dust jacket summary. I enjoyed the story but it lacked conflict and suspense--maybe because it's more of a psychological profile than an action story. The happy ending came too easily and I found the passive voice and choppy sentences distracting.
