Rating: Summary: Very helpful book but a little repetitive. . . Review: Parelli has several interesting and definitely important techniques any horseman/woman must know and be able to apply. He does repeat himself quite a bit and has several gratutious sections in the book. Overall, a book that I would highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: I would have given it Zero stars if I could Review: Parelli's style has nothing "natural" about it. His methods are archaic and only dressed up in silly new names so that they look like brand new ideas. Doesn't anyone question the selling of gadgets by a trainer? If you go to one of his clinics, you notice that every participant must use one of his special halters (which are of course for sale at the break), as if they held some magical powers. Parelli is just another bully using the old technique of "showing the horse who is boss". I am so disturbed by the way so many have latched on to this man I can't write a decent review. The bottom line: If you want to push your horse around and feel nervous around him, because one day he'll push back, or don't care about developing a long-lasting partnership where your horse looks for you and asks for guidance because he trusts you, then by all means, buy into Parelli and I pity your horse. But, if you are looking for a way to communicate with your horse in an entirely non-agressive way, and want your horse to be happy about the prospect about working with you, then I heartily suggest Mark Rashid's books and Clicker training with Alexandra Kurland.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Pat Parelli brillaintly details an unparalled approach that creates excellent results for anyone who is willing to apply themselves. He uses simple techniques to unleash the passion that people have for horses. It is fail proof. It is simple to understand and it is an easy read.
Rating: Summary: A book to understand the horse Review: Pat Parelli explain us very clearly his relationships with horses...based on understanding differences between humans and horses.A book to read to improve your life with your horse!
Rating: Summary: It's not the best book out there. Review: Pat Parelli gives sound advice on handling horses with a gentle and natural touch. His attitudes about building a life-long relationship with your horse are well spoken, and the terms he uses are easily understood and eloquently written. Although sometimes repetative, his instructions are easy to read and well thought out. Having lived my life with horses, I found it refreshing that Pat focused on the communication between man and beast, rather than "how to FORCE your horse do what you want". The communication tools recommended are non-invassive and can be purchased at almost any farm and home store, or tack shop. Of course the do-it-yourself horsemen could build some of their own since all the tools and the materials used to produce them are described in detail. Awesome reading for any horse person in any discipline who is interested in having something more than their horses resentful obedience.

Rating: Summary: The best horsemanship training book Review: Pat Parelli's techniques are incredibly simple, but very effective. I have used his teachings on two of my horses and they are learning faster than I had ever thought possible. One day, I plan on attending one of his week-long courses. If horsemanship technique is what you're after, this book is your bible.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Wise (and Witty) Review: Pat Parelli's work is an excellent reference guide for equine enthusiasts at any stage of riding. While his writing style bears the signs of a real show-man, beyond the self-hype lie important ideas and techniques which have, repeatedly, proven exceedingly beneficial for all types of horse-people. He carefully (albeit often somewhat pompously) describes his programme, which consists first of ground-work and then of exercises to be performed in saddle. His very noble goal is to help humans to develop a subtle, understanding relationship with their equine partners. Having read (and re-read) Parelli's work countless times in the past few months and having consistently applied his programme when "playing" (Parelli believes that humans should never "work" a horse) with my young Quarter Horse, I have witnessed enormous improvements in my horse's demeanour and, crucially, in the trust he has for me. By establishing dominance over my horse using the sensible, humane tactics Parelli recommends, I have made major progress en route to transforming this horse from a fearful, unridden colt into a willing, dependable, "true blue" mount. I highly endorse Parelli's work; if his programme is applied with persistence, patience, and an open mind, the possibilities in the horse-human relationship are limitless.
Rating: Summary: Best advice for creating a good relationship on the market. Review: The exercises and ground work laid out in his book create a much firmer foundation for any horse activity you care to try. The "Parelli-isms" in the back are worth note as are the three things you can't do too much of with a horse.
Rating: Summary: Saved my horse's life Review: The techniques mentioned in this book help me put together a braver and more trusting horse. I recomend this book as the base for any relationship with a horse. It helps build a trust that can be transformed into any riding style, not just western. My horse was almost swept away in a flood and strangers (barn owners) had to rescue him and bring him to safety. In flood waters that rapidly rose to hip levels, they got him to safety. He was the only horse in a barn of over 60 that didn't panic when handled. That would not have been the case a year before. I am a firm believer that these techniqes made the difference.
