Rating: Summary: I love it Review: I discovered David Eddings when a friend told me that if I liked Dragonlance I would love this. Never truer words were said. The way Eddings writes makes you believe in the characters, you know them. I specially like the first book because the hero, Garion, has no idea whatsoever of what's going on around him. It's not that he's dumb, he's got a good mind but if they take you out of an easy farmer life onto a "let's save the world" one it's sure gonna take you a little bit to get used to the idea.
Rating: Summary: Refreashing Review: This book was refreashing in the sense that it does not have many plots, comparing it to that of Wheel of Time for instance. I enjoyed it due to the easy and enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy and Forgettable Review: This book, while it may be satisfactory to so many, engages the reader on an unusually low "common denominator" for a fantasy series. The characters speak in a style that wanders from stylized to contemporary, making the world a blurry patch of wanna-be-Tolkein, wanna-be-M. Z. Bradley (a false literary goddess if there ever was any), and Family Ties. If you are the sort which has been raised on a kind of "Reader's Digest" literary culture you may find these books entertaining, even engrossing. I find it to be shallow, formulaic and unimaginative.
Rating: Summary: Best book ever Review: This book is one of the best books I have ever read. It is the start of an epic fantasy adventure spanning two series of action packed reading. If you are a fantasy fan you have got to read this book because if you don't you are missing out big time.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Fantasy Review: The Belgariad and Mallorean written by David Eddings is the greatest fantasy books ever written. The plot is unique from other books and twists in it make it even better, while retaining an age old rags to riches story. The world itself is by all means, perfect. Some stories have too much magic in the story and leaves out the details of normal life, but Eddings keeps everything in balance. The characters though are what make this story the best ever. They are so lifelike that when you finish both series, its like leaving your friends. They all have problems and you empathize with them because of this. Of course Garion deals with normal boys problems and in the book Garion does alot of thinking. Above all, is Eddings mastery of writing skill. He has such a way of making the world, characters, and events in the story unique, rich, and beautiful. Some stories hurry through the journey, but Eddings seems to take his time and describes the settings and surroundings to make it more realistic. No fantasy has or probably will ever touch the Belgariad and Mallorean series. If anyone is looking for a fantasy that you will read again and again, please pick this up. I promise you that if you do, you wont be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: I would say that the 10 books in the two series are probably the best fantasy books i have ever read. The books contained an excellent plot, and kept me on the edge of my seat nearly the whole time.
Rating: Summary: Light Fantasy Review: This book and the other 4 in the series are wonderful entertainment. I read this book almost 10 years ago and could not put it down. It has a simple storyline yet the plot twists and turns to delight the reader. The characters are extremely likeable and easily loveable. Eddings created a fantasy world where the reader is taken through all the seasons and through many emotions. You will find yourself turning the pages to see what happens next and I would recommend that you have all five in the first series and, to be prepared for sleep depravation.
Rating: Summary: Pawn of Prophecy... Pure Magic Review: One day an old friend of mine came up to me and said "Liz, your bored i can tell.. here read this book. I guarentee you won't be able to put it down." I laughed at him and took the offered book THIS book and began to read just to show him......But he was right... i couldn't put it down. Pawn of Prophecy is without a doubt one of the best works i have ever read, David Eddings is utterly AMAZING. The characters are so viral, so lively and easily believeable, it's such a joy to read!
Rating: Summary: A story Review: This book is just that: a story but that doesn't mean that it isn't good. Eddings has likeable characters and this series is one of the classics of the genre. It has all the components of a workable fantasy and was written with humour and verve. If you are looking for a book which will challenge you then don't read this book unless you want to post a snotty review lamenting the decline of the genre. However if you want a bit of escapism then go ahead. Eddings is just as valid as Tolkien and much more readable.
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: If formula books had an aristocracy, this book and its following series would be king. Let's see, we have a rustic country lad who has a great destiny. He is assisted by two magicians, some strong men, and a thief. His mission: to kill the world's source of evil as recorded in a prophecy. Does this sound even faintly familiar? The sequel series follows the exact same plot, too. Talk about lack of creativity.
