Rating: Summary: Simply the best Fantasy adventure Review: Yes, the line pretty much says it... I'm a fan of fantasy-adventure... I've read all of Tolkien's books and all five books of the Belgariad, and the five books of the Malloreon, and also the three books of the Elenium... (Looking for the rest of the books by this genious...) Eddings has a great sense of humor, and the characters have very definite personalities, that's a part that i like, if the main characters aren't just some kind of "Hero" but a real person with a real personality and, of course real problems...
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Ever seen a movie or read a book that you just can't tear your mind off? This is one of THOSE books- Although not one of the best he's written in the series - I can't believe I wrote that - It sets the story for the rest of the Mind Boggling, Stupendously written series that only Eddings could produce, and if you haven't read the rest of the Belgariad and the Mallorean, what are you waiting for? Its only the best Story of ALL-TIME! Go and get it, I've read the series 4 times (yeh I know, but it is good, and for those of you who are just like me, tell me how many times you've read the series) and if your still not impressed, read the next one, then the next one, and the one after that, see if you can't get sucked in by Belgarath's quick wit, Silk's little wittisisms And Polgara's sharp tounge, See if you can't feel close to Garion. Go on, I DARE 'YE
Rating: Summary: NORMAL people cannot help but like this book Review: Most people who like fantasy will love this book. Maybe if you are too dang old (somewhere around 100) to like this book just don't bother writing a review. Go to sleep. However, there is another possibility. You have to be to dumb to follow the story. I'm surprised you people can even read.
Rating: Summary: Generally excellent and ground-breaking Review: A brilliant start to the series and also showing some new things i have not seen in fantasy before. First of all, the hero, Garion, seemed not to be at all special and seemed to be just tagging along. Later on in the series you find out he is more important. The characters were wonderfully portrayed but seemed to be fulfilling the same kind of roles as characters in other books of the genre. The main failing with all of the books in the series is that although they are written excellently, none of the books has a plot of it's own, just one small piece of the whole series. Apart from that an excellent read which left be drooling for more.
Rating: Summary: Very Good. Review: I read the whole series in a few weeks and it was great. It lacks a bit of power, but is very well written, funny and entertaining, with realistic insight.Good action, romance, human emotions, and a building zenith of events that keeps the pages turning. The joke with the orb was funny, but I think something much more funny was going on at the time ^_~ And it was also a good charcter development point, too bad it was too ''offensive'' to write about. Only other flaw was that travel got a little boring and I would have liked to know more about the universal scheme of things; I found that very cool. Despite a few flaws, (and every writer has flaws), Eddings is truly great. For people who enjoy good fantasy, read Eddings.
Rating: Summary: This is an awesome book! Review: Read this book. You won't regret it. I love David Eddings. He builds up wonderful characters and makes up a wonderful plot line that you can't help but be drawn into. this book is truly awesome! Now go out and get it!
Rating: Summary: A good start, but... Review: Pawn of Prophecy is the first book in the Belgariad. There was absolutely no need for me to say that, because it's pretty obvious from just about everything on this site, but one has to start somewhere. On with the review: As beginnings go, this is all right. Not great, not bad, but all right. The early years on Faldor's farm are well portrayed (although Garion is a bit goody goody for my tastes). It's pretty obvious right from the start that Aunt Pol is Polgara, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out who Mister Wolf really is, but that's part of the charm. Pol comes across very well, as the all-practical, all knowing matriarch of the farm, and the other characters are introduced quite well. However, as soon as they leave the farm, things start to go downhill rather. Pol's treatment of Garion seems unnecessarily harsh - she does appear to be trying to keep him a child for as long as she can, and ignores the fact that she *has*, in fact, torn his life to shreds without a word of explanation. The sections in Cherek and on the road in Sendaria are well written, intoducing the Murgos and Grolims in general, and Brill and Asharak in particular, quite effectively, though I do wish they'd stop tacking "the Murgo" onto the end of Asharak's name all the time... Basically, a good start to a good series, though marred by the mother-figure's unpleasantness.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Once I had started reading this, the first book of the Belgariad,I was unable to put it down and continued like that until the series was finished. A trully magnificent start to the saga and a master piece in its own right.
Rating: Summary: Read it young Review: This is a great book for anyone of any age but the younger the reader is, the better. Any 10-12 year old will become immersed in the plot and feel that these characters are real. Any older reader will read it in amazement over the rich vocabulary and details. The best reason to read it young is because it will be harder for you to predict and therefore a more enjoyable read. Enjoy
Rating: Summary: THE BEST SERIES EVER WRITTEN Review: when i first heard about it from a teacher i immediately went and borrowed it, i found myself unable to put the book at all. the book is written superbly and i loved the way Eddings wrote it, it felt like the characters actually existed and all of the created world was real.i have also read the mallorean and loved every bit of it. Through out the the entire series Eddings leaves you spellbound and wanting more. i hope that one day he will continue on with the story line and it would be excellent if all the 10 books were put into a movie
